The Connection Between Pounamu And TV

One of the easiest places to start is age. What age group will this channel appeal to? This can be difficult to pinpoint, because although many movies and televisions shows are rated for certain ages, this is typically the minimum age of comprehension. Technically Sesame Street is rated for 3 year olds and up, but just because people over the age of 10 can understand the program doesn’t mean they will enjoy it. Knowing I wanted to talk about higher level topics like physics and chemistry automatically bumped the age group up to around teenagers. In the end we decided the majority of people watching this show would be between the ages of 13 and 17, grades 7th-12th. I know nothing about either, and in the timeline to create an episode I could not learn those two subjects. I didn’t know what the timeline was yet, but people study those two subjects for years. I didn’t have that kind of time. I thought of a different connection, one between geology and art: Pounamu is a type of rock created in volcanoes and is used in New Zealand Maori cultures. I ended up creating a list of the first 12 episode I would create: chemistry and art, chemistry and cooking, cooking and math, math and zoology, zoology and physics, physics and natural disasters, disasters and ecology, ecology and geology, geology and biology, biology and astronomy. I had no intention of creating 12 videos for my senior project, but thinking of 12 meant I was planning for later. And planning for the long term was a big part of this project for me, I wanted to learn how to create a channel, not just an
