With a unique blend of practice and theory, the intricacy of management issues in the business world fascinates me and provokes me to look into the field of OM/OR, where scholars seek to employ methods from multiple disciplines to solve real life management problems. I have been fortunate to have experiences in several institutes around the world, including UC Berkeley and UCLA, and in doing so have developed a powerful interest in research at the level practiced in these esteemed institutions. I am convinced that doctoral study in Operations, Information & Technology at Stanford Graduate School of Business is what I hope to pursue.
From elementary school to high school, my summers have consisted of intensive training to prepare for

My awakening to the wonder of business world began in the summer of 2014, when I was introduced to the National Operation Research and Optimization Courses by Prof. Dongdong Ge(a former Ph.D. from Stanford, MS&E), which turned out to be the turning point in my life. Different from previous mathematical courses which emphasized theory, these courses - including Stochastic Models, dynamic inventory and pricing management, Business Intelligence and Data Analysis - opened up new worlds for me. I was overwhelmed by how optimization can be applied so broadly in economics and management, and how people can make use of the growing availability of data.
Later in the fall of 2014, I was enrolled as an exchange student at UC Berkeley. As I was eager to embrace different branches of science as well as strengthen my background with advanced knowledge, I challenged myself with some of the most difficult courses, including Applied Stochastic Process by Prof. Rhonda Righter. The course materials and problem sets were challenging, but I found it especially enjoyable to collaborate with my classmates, mostly first year Ph.D. students. My discussions with them did not always lead

Operations Management in an organisation is repsonsible for managing and in making decisions concerning the activities that convert inputs into outputs , that is goods and services. This covers both short term actvities as well as longer term activities to meet strategic goals. Inputs can be the raw materaials need to manufacture goods such as furniture or the computers needed to create a service like online shopping site. Operation management’s role is to make decisions to improve how operation activities function, for example, to improve the final quality of the output or to change production methods to be more efficient in terms of cost and in time.
Operations management is defined as the design, execution, and control of operations that convert resources into desired goods and services, while implementing an organizations business strategy (Business Dictionary, 2015). Office Depot Inc. is one such organization that truly understands that solid operations is the foundation to the success they have had in recent years. In this paper, I will give the history and background of Office Depot Inc. and explain why they have been able to keep such a competitive advantage in the consumer and small business supply industry. Additionally, I will
This journal is an insight on my thoughts and experiences and my own reflection of operations management and the topics in which we have looked at in both lectures and my interactive workshops. In this journal I will cover the following:
I always thought to myself that it was pointless to train during the summer when I could be doing something better or more fun. But, as I see my times drop and I keep getting faster because of the early training I did, it makes it all that sweeter. Also, our team has been to States for many years in a row now, so I will always remember that if you work hard, you will see good results. Although this was a big commitment and example of trying new things this still can be the same thing for smaller examples.
Low-cost, time-efficient manufacturing of goods is a key feature of a successful production company in today’s competitive global economy. Operations management, often abbreviated in the business world as OM, is defined as “...the set of activities that creates value in the form of goods and services by transforming inputs into outputs (Heizer and Render, p. 4).” Every day, factories take in raw materials and use the labor hours and skills of their employees to transform those same materials into a variety of consumer products,
While attending Fudan University in China, I continued to challenge myself to maintain the number one ranked student in my major -- even after switching my major from Physics to Mathematics in the second year. Furthermore, my distinguished academic performance awarded me the privilege of being selected in the National Basic Science Talent Training Plan. Through this, I joined reading groups and read several graduate-level books such as Econometrics (Fumio Hayashi) independently. The intensive reading motivates me to explore methodologies in different branches of science, such as Econometrics, Statistics, and Mathematics. By the time I finish each topic, I had not only broadened my knowledge, but also acquired the ability to explain my ideas consistently and coherently.
In order to run an organization to its best ability, operations managers can rely on linear programming as a way to guide them in to better decision making in a more confident fashion. Linear programming gets the most effective use out of an establishment’s resources, this is always the ideal condition for companies, and nobody wants to be knowingly throwing resources down the drain. In order for an operations manager to successfully administer a linear programming equation, the OM must have four requirements: an objective, constraints, alternative and linearity.

Operations management is the management of processes that create goods and/or services which is the core to any business. (Stevenson, 2012) Operations involves leading within several operational duties such as: service design, process selection, selection and management of technology, design of work systems, location planning, facilities planning, and quality improvement. There are many activities that should be a focus for Operations Managers and can help ensure process and productivity and

Q: The video overview suggests the considerable complexity in PT Sails manufacturing. Do you think the complexity of a manufacturing business is less for a small business than a large one? Explain why or why not?
Elements of management should be guided by the human physical dynamism of organizational units, which seeks to attain the objective and the satisfaction of an organization (Robbins & Judge, 2015). Management is guiding human and physical resources into dynamic organizational units which attain their objectives to the satisfaction of those served and with a high degree of morale and sense of attainment on the part of those rendering service. —American Management Association
