“Time moves slowly, but passes quickly.” Alice Walker, The Color Purple. For

the main character, Celie, this quote represents so much in her life. The Color Purple is

a book with many different hidden messages. They are all lessons learned by Celie

throughout her life that she shares. Out of all the messages these are the most important

messages from the book and an explanation on why they are important. To scratch the

surface, it shall start with Celie’s talks with God. The digging deeper Celie breaking

In the beginning, Celie confides in God for everything. She writes to him all the

Celie was always use to being under a man’s rule and

she never fought back. When Celie meets Shug, she starts to see the world in a

different light. Shug opened Celie’s eyes to how her life could be if she would just

stand up for herself. It took Celie a long time to fight for herself. But Shug made sure

Mr. ____ would treat Celie right even if Shug wasn’t there. Celie loved everything

about Shug but just couldn’t fathom the idea of disobeying any man. Since she had

always been an obedient woman no matter what happened to her. When Celie found

out that Mr. _____ had been keeping her sister’s letters from her it was the last straw.

She had decided that she would no longer be under a man’s rule.

When she left Mr. ______, she went with Shug to her house and made a living.

Celie didn’t really have any talents till she discover she could make pants. She would

make them all day and she loved it. She felt like she had a place in the world than to

Shug believes that anything that pleases a person is what God wanted. God

wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t going to be the purple in someone’s life. God created

everything that is pleasurable in life. Everyone has different types of purple in their

life. God want the people to notice the beauty of their creation all the time. He doesn’t

want people to be like Celie. Celie is just living, she has no feelings she is just there in

her life. It isn’t until she sees all to purple in the world that she starts to live.

When Celie starts to love her life after she leaves Mr. _____, she

surrounds herself with purple. She has her own house and decorates it in purple. She

has a new out take on life and plans to live the rest of her life to her pleasures. She

makes a room for Shug and her sister. She wants to surround herself with the people

she loves and that love her back. Celie’s sister, Nettie, has also found her children that

she had with her step-father. Celie is a completely different person at the end of the

book. She has learned to love life and never to go back to the way it was before. It
