I was beginning to prepare for the next residency and I realized that I was not looking forward to hearing presentations from liberal and leftist progressive ideologues who seem unable to keep their opinions to themselves and just teach writing. Then I began watching Cold Mountain, the next PBIC and movie and once again, it's all about depraved ignorant southerners, a coward that runs from war, and slavery. I'm not sure why the faculty keeps returning to slavery and oppression in required books and movies again and again, but it's truly become repulsive for me. There's plenty of other optimistic works that could serve this purpose for learning.
Born Lisa Williamson in 1964, Sister Souljah is a hip-hop artist that burst to the forefront of mainstream media in 1992 when she was criticized by then Presidential candidate Bill Clinton for saying "If Black people kill black people every day, why not have a week and kill white people?" Clinton was trying to prove to other Democrats that he did not sympathize with the organization that Souljah was a member of. She basically said Bill Clinton and went on to sign music and publishing contracts. She has become one of the more passionate and articulate voices to emerge speaking for young African Americans in the United States. She has written and published to works: No Disrespect, and autobiographical account of
"Andrea, stay here with the others. I'm getting supplies and your father is going to get some weapons," Andrea's mother informed her. "Never leave this house, no matter the circumstances," she instructed.

The events one goes through in his or her life often shapes the person he or she becomes. The challenges faced early in life work to strengthen one’s personality and enable them to live and flourish. In the novel Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier the reader learns about the many obstacles Ruby has had to face while growing up. These hardships added to the person that she became and made her strong enough to face the obstacles that come later in life. In being faced with many obstacles in life Ruby was able to learn from them, become a stronger person and therefore survive.
Since Cold Mountain does not heavily rely on dialogue to tell the story, the point of view Frazier uses to narrate the story is important: He must create the effect of being enveloped in two separate worlds, and give insight into characters who have no one to discuss their thoughts with. The only way to accomplish this is by using the omniscient point of view, which is when the author has unlimited knowledge about the characters and their thoughts.
The book The Philadelphia Chromosome by Jessica Wapner follows the story of how a fatal disease called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia became one of the first targets of kinase inhibitors for targeted cancer therapies. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) affects only a small number of people (an estimated 8,500 diagnoses this year), but was until recently considered a fatal disease. Gleevec, a drug created by Novartis (mostly) that targeted the BCR/ABL protein in CML patients. This protein causes a tyrosine kinase to uncontrollably phosphorylate myeloid cells in bone marrow. The BCR/ABL protein is caused by a gene mutation known as The Philadelphia Chromosome, which is an abnormality in chromosome 22.

Did you know that eating disorders have some of the most shocking- not to mention frightening, statistics compared to all other mental disorders? Not only do eating disorders have the highest mortality rate compared to any other mental illness, but over 30 million people of all ages, genders, and races suffer from eating disorders. Although all ages can suffer from eating disorders it is most common among teenagers and women. Many books have been written, displaying the intense mental and obviously physical struggles of this sickness. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson has become very popular over the years as well as Perfect written by Natasha Friend. Eating disorders have also continuously been glamorized in movies and songs. In Civil War Sickness directed by Isa Gueye, she tells about her recovery as well as her struggles
The story “Winter Dreams” bounced around a lot, however the setting is outdoor in the peacefully setting of a golf course. This very important because it bring a sense of calmness to the story, unlike some of the others in the unit 2. However, the golf course is in Minnesota where the winter are long and harsh. Nevertheless, I bet the summers are nice and green on the golf course. Still, since Minnesota is the land of lakes, there was many for Dexter to enjoy, even right on the golf course. The golf course was life for Dexter. Nothing else matter when he was there.
Why didn't she slow down, when she heard that there was ice bergers in the area.
Childhood is the most important part of life; it creates the mold that humans fit into for the rest of their lives. Human beings, whether or not they realize, act and think based on their childhoods and the way they had been raised. In the novel In Cold Blood, Perry Smith had a tragic childhood; he had neither the feeling of family nor people around to help him. Later in life, Perry met Dick Hickock, who was somebody he often viewed as a friend and somebody to be around, even though Dick often manipulated Perry. Eventually, Perry killed four people in order to stay close with Dick, considering that he had nobody else.
"Do you ever see yourself, fantasizing, about snow?" She asked, unaware of the ignorance, that seemed to protrude, across her face. "We live in Texas, obviously." I snickered, as she shot me a look of annoyance, "I know." She began as she rolled her eyes, "To better explain it, have you forgotten the feeling of snow, not your mind, but your body, the feeling of it laying in your hands."
Regardless of, valid reasoning and evidence from the methods mentioned above, others will argue that the restitution and restorative justice approach are the best approach of handling criminal behavior. Individuals who support this approach argue that the ones hurt by the offender are often forgotten, when in fact they are the ones that need the most attention. Over time, a concept known as the victim’s movement has become popular, and it recognizes that victims should be involved in the process of sentencing criminals. This includes the right not to be excluded and the right to speak at criminal justice proceedings. (Seiter, 2004). For the offender, restorative justice could be cruel because the damage done on the victim is fresh and often
Virtue ethics is a theory that usually has a role of character and virtue in the world of moral philosophy rather than either doing one’s duty or acting in order to bring about good consequences. In some article they said that some people that give professional advice about moral are called virtue ethicist. When talking about virtue ethics theories, you need to understand that it came from Aristotle who declared that, “a virtuous person is someone who has ideal character traits.” He also said that these traits are originated from natural internal tendencies, but need to be cherished; however, once established, they will become stable.
