The Civil War And The American War Essay

The aftermath of the Civil War shook the nation. A new way of life was beginning for the people of America. A way of life that was beautiful and free to some and absolutely devastating to the rest. The country had changed and nobody did a better job at documenting this change than the authors. The authors used this new world to explore new and unique stories as well as capturing what it was actually like living in the post-Civil War times. This paper will examine post-Civil War Literature and its importance to documenting this period in history.

One of the most famous wars in U.S History must be the Civil War. This was a conflict (1861–1865) between the Northern states (also called the Union) and the Southern states (also called the Confederacy. Several southern states seceded from the Union and formed the Confederacy in reaction to Lincoln's Emancipation. Conflict between the North and the South were growing with every single minute of debate over slavery, economy and politics during the first part of the 1800s and this eventually resulted in a war. After a war lasting 4 years. The Union emerged victorious and the freedom of 4 million slaves was imminent. The war was over and all but the process of rebuilding the South (Reconstruction) after the civil war introduced a new set of problems. I believe that the Reconstruction was not successful in solving the problems caused by slavery and the civil war.

The Civil War devastated the United States for over four years and caused a hole in the unity of the nation. Caused by conflicts that were often rooted with slavery, the nation was divided in two. The war had been building up for many years and led to many citizens throughout the nation questioning which side they supported. A victory for the North led to Abraham Lincoln abolishing slavery in 1865, which turned the nation upside down. For former slave owners, they now faced economic problems with a loss of their main source of income. On the other hand, for the slaves, they now could be free from the brutalities and hardships that had faced their whole lives. No more did they have to obey the wishes of someone else and be treated like property. These former slaves hoped that they could now live the life they had always dreamed of.

The Civil War was a turning point in both American and World history. Many believed that America could not support democracy but this war showed that with resilience and perseverance one can achieve anything. The Civil War took over 1 million lives, destroying cities and farmland throughout the war. This was the deadliest and most destructive war in American history because all of the battle were fought amongst Americans on American soil. At the end of the Civil War, slaves were free but they were not given equal rights. With the end of the Civil War, many significant changes occurred. Some of these changes include Black Codes, discrimination, and peace between the North and the South.

The Civil War could easily be seen as the second American Revolution considering it brought about significant change in history in the political, social, and economic aspects. Prior to the civil war, there had been a policy of slavery in the South which was a main cause of the conflict between the Union and the Confederacy. In the post-war period, slavery had been abolished which brought about much change in not only the social but economic aspect as well. There are many points from which the Civil War can be seen as revolutionary. In the political view, the Republican Party had dominated the political system for a long period of time. The purpose of this paper is to show the events surrounding the end of the American Civil War. The two sides which were at war was the union and the confederacy. Which was basically the United States separated into 2 sections going at war with each other. In this document, I will speak about those people who were involved on the battlefield towards the end of the war.

In the Civil War the North had many advantages over the South. The South was outnumbered, out supplied, and pushed into a corner using military tactics. Many things changed because of the Civil War. The military tactics used by the North changed how war was fought from then on. Many changes were made politically; some were only temporary, while others were permanent. However, those results came at the value of many lives.Nearly 625,000 American soldiers lives were lost in all the wars combined. It was caused because of stubborn differences between free and slave states over the government on whether or not to prohibit slavery amongst territories that were not yet states. Once President Abraham Lincoln was elected and pledged to prevent slavery in those territories , seven slave states withdrew and formed a new nation called the Confederate States of America. Abraham Lincoln’s administration refused to recognize the authority of secession. They worried it would destroy the democracy. The event that caused the war was the Battle of Fort Sumter.

Slavery was the most important cause of the Civil War, because this single issue divided the North and South to begin with. The ideological differences between the North and South led to economic differences, conflicts over newly acquired territories, disputes over the constitution, and political extremism. The Election of 1860 was the culmination of these disputes and caused the South to secede in 1861 and guided the way towards the Civil War.

Throughout its’ history, the United States of America has had a military branch in order to protect the country from foreign enemies, dating back all the way to the Revolutionary War when the brave young Colonies declared independence from Great Britain. In 1861, the American Civil War commenced after many years of tension building between the Northern and Southern states. The main reason of the tension was said to be the debate of slavery between the North and South, and although some documents support this claim, it is false. The war had been brewing since 1607, before slavery was even introduced to the colonies that would become the United States of America. The debate of slavery did play a major part in the civil war; however it did so in supporting the true cause of the civil war. The main cause of the American Civil War was not the debate of slavery, but rather Europe’s role in the American economy.
