The Cheetah
The cheetah is one of the most fascinating land animals. It has so many interesting facts about it! Cheetahs have a huge impact on the animal kingdom.
They have many amazing physical features. The cheetah is one of the world's fastest land animals. They can run 70 mph(or 110 kph). “The cheetah coat is covered with about 2,000 black spots”. The cheetah is very slender and has a muscular body. They have a white belly, and a dark stripe.
The cheetah has only a few places it lives. The cheetah’s habitat is in sub-Saharan Africa and in eastern and southern African. They can also live in southern Algeria. “They like dry, open grasslands so they can pick up speed to kill prey.”
The hunting habits of the cheetah are very
Wolves When I was in third grade, my heart was always immersed in some colorful wildlife magazine, demanding book after book to the chagrin of my patient mother and father. But among all of those enchanting animals and stories, there was something about wolves that got me permanently hooked . They are free-spirited and totally carefree and they are able to roam anywhere they please to go. They are one of the most majestic animals that has ever walked the earth. Look at some famous art on the subject of wolves.
Amur leopards have been known to live in temperate forests in Russia. Not only do they live through hot summers, but also some very harsh winters with extremely cold winds and deep snow.
These awesome rats also have the legs of a kangaroo. They can jump 9 feet in one jump. They jump this high to avoid predators. I would love to be able to jump that high when I see a rattler. Kangaroo rats, like many desert creatures, are nocturnal.
The spectacle of a cheetah running at full speed is art; the anatomy and physique facilitating its speed and agility is genetic engineering at its best. The cheetah can accelerate from “0 – 60 mph in 3 seconds, making it the fastest land animal on the planet.” Yes, even faster than Usain Bolt. Like Bolt, the cheetah is a sprinter – not a long distance runner and can only attain high speeds in short bursts due to the tremendous drain on its energy resources. “It could take up to 30 minutes for a cheetah to recover from a chase.”So just how can this big cat accelerate faster than a Ferrari? On the exterior, “the cheetah is the most slender of the big cats; its lightweight body (weighing about 80-140 lbs.), small head and long legs are designed for aerodynamics.” Structurally, “the cheetah has a unique, flexible spine, which allows for extreme flexion and extension while running at top speeds.
Lions, giraffes, zebras, rhinoceroses,
Wild carnivores must continually fend for themselves in order to maintain and ensure their survival. Carnivores must be able to hunt their food, a rigorous process requiring much uptake of their energy, meanwhile, preserving energy for living. (Laundre 2014) How large Predators Manage the Cost of Hunting is a study conducted to measure the amount of energy carnivores use up while hunting prey. Pumas and cheetahs have particular techniques when it comes to pursuing prey. Pumas tend to be observers; they linger around their prey, watching them before they make their move. Searching of the prey takes up most of the puma’s energy. However, in order to save energy, Pumas will use up different amounts of energy based on the prey’s size, using up
Carnivores rely on hunting animals for food, thus their survival depends on their ability to catch their next meal. These carnivores often strive for the biggest prey, making food harder to attain and increasing the overall energetic demand. Hunting becomes a game of stealth, fear and maintaining energy levels (Brown et al. 1999). Two reports were done by Scantlebury et al. (Scantelbury et al. 2014) and Williams et al (Williams et al. 2014) and they looked at the delicate balance between the depletion and replenishment of energy in order to survive. The study found that pumas and cheetahs have different game strategies when it comes to hunting. Pumas prefer the sit and wait approach as they would rather let the prey come to them, while cheetahs
What looks like it cries, but has no tears? What races by at the speed of lightning?…….. It’s a cheetah! Cheetahs have so many amazing features and characteristics. Also cheetahs and leopards may seem very similar yet they do have many differences too! Cheetahs have been on the endangered species list for many, many years. Can they maybe still make a comeback? These fantastic creatures are so amazing!
I think cheetahs are better than polar bears for many reasons. I have watched many videos on Youtube about polar bears killing many people. If I had the chance to adopt a cheetah I would. My favorite animal is a cheetah. It is my favorite because they give birth between 2 to 8 cubs at a time.
Lemurs have undergone interesting history as they evolve from the suborder strepsirrhini. The lemur have also lived on madagascar for the longest time They adapted to the environment. There are from a hug tree of ancestors from adapting down from the lemur. The lemurs body is meant for for skinny and climbing up in the tall trees. Over all the lemurs are a great animal they have a strong body and their from a long traits of family
Leo is always active at night, which makes him a nocturnal animal. Throughout the day, Leo and his kind rest in trees and bushes. Most leopards, like Leo, prefer to live alone because they are solitary. Since Leo hunts alone, hunting is difficult for him because gazelles tend to travel in herds. Every attempt that Leo makes at his prey, Leo gets hurt from the long horns of the innocent gazelles. He has to chase his prey because the gazelle could run up to thirty miles per hour. Without a doubt, Leo could easily reach the speedy gazelles because he is the fastest animal of
The journey to the camps have been brutal. It all started on a cold and very snowy day. I remember the day clearly because the sky seemed be a little darker than normal. It was like I was walking through a dark gloomy cave with no flashlight or a sense of how to get out. I was almost home to my two children when I had the feeling I was being followed. I turned around and as fast as a cheetah running through the valley I was kidnapped by the T-2’s. The last thing I remember was my kids screaming bloody murder and the dark sky looking down at me. The camps are everything I imagined and more, but in the worst way. When I got to the camp it was the coldest it had been all year. The T-2’s treated us like animals. No human being should be treated
The animal that I chose for my report is the meerkat. The meerkat lives mostly underground in South Africa. They usually weigh about 2 pounds and are about 20 inches long. The meerkats appearance is the fur is light brown. The top of it's tail is also white. Their diet consists of insects, spiders, and snails. Their enemies are goshawks, eagles, and falcons. The lifespan of the meerkat is about 10 years. Some interesting facts about meerkats are that young meerkats go to school but they dig. They can dig through sand to their own weight in just few seconds. Another fact is young meerkats go with a babysitter. Lastly, They use their tail for balance and as a signal. The most interesting fact that I learned about meerkats was that when meerkats
Zebras are undeniably the coolest animal on earth except of course Lions, Tigers, and Sharks. But other than those they are the coolest.
The cheetah is the fastest land animal and can run in bursts of 70 miles per hour to catch its prey. Other animals, like lions and hyenas, hunt in groups and trap the weaker animals away from the protection of the herd. One reason that so many different kinds of plant eating animals can live on the savanna is that different species have adapted to eat different plants. This may be a different type of plant or even plants at different heights. Some animals are built to eat low grass while others, like giraffes, are designed to eat leaves high up in
