1.The Trigger for the First World War. ”World War One started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28, 1914. This was the main trigger point but was also followed by a series of events.” (How Did World One Start Facts) Archduke Franz Ferdinand was Emperor Josef’s nephew. The assassination was planned by a group of terrorists called, “The Black Hand.” The man who shot Archduke is Gavrilo Princip a Bosnian Revolutionary. The assassination made was not only the main cause of the war but also cause a string of events to occur. Austria, Germany, and Hungary declared war on Serbia. Germany then declared war on Russia and France. Europe was on the brink of war. 2.Central Powers and Allies. “The war consisted of the Allies and Central Powers. The Allies were Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. The Central Powers were Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and finally Bulgaria.” ( World War One) The war included thirty-two countries (central powers and allies). There was a group of countries called the “Triple Entente” which included Ireland, Britain, Russia, and France. Also, the United States at first was on no one’s side until Germany sank a ship on the coast of Britain that killed many on board including 128 Americans. After that Germany had “promised” to not sink any more ships.
