One of the biggest problems we face in the world today, is global warming. Many climate scientists believe that the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and deforestation is causing our earth’s climate to heat. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are trapping heat from the sun in our atmosphere, which causes ice to melt, sea levels to rise, temperatures to rise and some animal species population to decline.
Many climate scientists agree that the main cause of global warming today is too much carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, acting as a blanket and trapping heat in, warming the planet. We create global warming by burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas etc) and burning down our forests to make plantations. When carbon dioxide is released into our atmosphere, it hangs around for many centuries. The more carbon dioxide released into the air, the more the suns energy gets trapped in our atmosphere as heat and at this rate, by the end of the century, will have risen by six degrees.
Due to global warming, ice is melting all over the world including, mountain glaciers, ice sheets that cover west Antarctica and Greenland and Arctic sea ice, causing sea levels to rise, more quickly. They are expected to rise between 18 and 59 centimetres by the end of the century and water temperatures will increase. Global warming also affects many species living at the earths poles. For instance, the number of breeding pairs of Adelie penguins on Antarctica have dropped from 32,000 to 11,000 in 30 years. Another animal being affected by global warming is polar bears. As sea ice melts, two thirds of polar bears will disappear by 2050. It is also expected that global warming will also cause the population of seals, polar bears prey, to decline. This polar bears will go hungry for longer periods of time, resulting in cannibalism. Additionally, as temperatures increase around the world, there is an increase in extreme weather events. Storms are able to absorb energy from the water temperature causing hurricanes and typhoons.
We can help stop global warming by reducing fossil fuel use, planting waste, reducing waste and conserving water. Burning fossil fuels increases the levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. We can
Honestly, how corrupt is the Catholic Church? What are they trying to hide? These are just some of the questions Geoffrey Chaucer undoubtedly asked himself while writing the “Canterbury Tales”. Unphased by the option of the Catholic Church he set about to write a story in which voiced his unadulterated opinion. The Canterbury Tales begins as a pilgrimage decides to visit the relics of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral.
According to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, there were more than 23,000 people arrested for driving under the influence in 2014. The cornerstone of many DUI cases is breath test results. Under the state’s implied consent law, the authorities may use such tests in order to determine the blood alcohol content level of motorists who they believe were drinking and driving. Overcoming the results of these tests may seem insurmountable, however, there are some situations in which breath tests may be deemed inadmissible.
There are some barriers or weaknesses common to most interventions that target addictive behaviors in the community. Heterogeneity in the population and cultural barriers has contributed to the lack of knowledge regarding substance use and its effects. Issues related to taboo, denial and loss of face mask understanding of the extent of the problem. Institutional barriers and lack of community infrastructure make treatment efforts difficult in serving a diverse population (Ja, 1993). In addition to the psychological barriers, other physical problems also exist. Most primary care physicians do not feel competent to treat alcohol and drug related disorders. Physicians generally do not like to work with patients with these disorders and do not find treating them rewarding. There is substantial evidence that physicians fail even to identify a large percentage of patients with these disorders (Miller, Sheppard, Colenda, & Magen, 2001). Financial barriers include inability to access treatment services by addicted individuals as indicated in various studies. There is also a competition for resources that has to be considered. Local governments allocate some part of their funding for specific issues and there is a competition among several stakeholders to ensure that their cause is represented. Research shows that prevention programs in the community on the issues of substance abuse, risky sexual behavior, school failure, juvenile delinquency and violence have to be
Global Warming is a result of too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It acts sort of like a blanket, trapping heat and warming the Earth. As we humans burn fuel like coal, oil and natural gasses for energy and burn down forests to create farms, carbon is accumulating and overloading our atmosphere. Global Warming is a fundamental problem, and these are some reasons as to why.
Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide and water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced when fossil fuels or wood is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are released into the atmosphere. Global warming can be controlled through the following ways: preservation of forests, minimal use of fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy and use of low carbon or zero carbon technology.
In order to understand the issue of global warming (also referred to as climate change), you must first understand what it means and how it happens. Global warming is a result of a process known as the greenhouse effect, in which the light and heat from the sun are trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere by greenhouse gases; which subsequently raises the average temperature on Earth. The greenhouse gases responsible for this process are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and tropospheric ozone, all of which are released into the atmosphere through naturally occurring processes (Warrick, R. & Farmer, G., 1990).
Global warming is a worldwide epidemic that in large part is directly caused by human activities. NASA defines global warming as “the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature[…] due to the greenhouse gasses released as people burn fossil fuels.” In the past 100 years, global temperatures have been rising because of the increasing amount of greenhouse gasses being released into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses, such as CO2, are released when humans burn fossil fuels such as coal. People may argue that climate change is a natural part of life and has occurred in the
Global warming is a major issue has been brought into our world’s focusing. It results a rapid increasing in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere, surface, and the oceans. Because of the temperature’s increasing, it affects plant's growth, animal and human's living. There are so many different points of view due to the causes of global warming. Once group argues that current global warming is caused and accelerated by human actions. The other side agrees that global warming is occurring due to natural forces. This paper will explore both side of the arguments and attempt to give out a conclusion. The first section of this paper focuses on human activity influenced on global warming. The second section will focus on natural forces causes of global warming. The last section summarizes the main aspect of the two sides and come up with a finally conclusion. There are some evidences from books and academic journal are mentioned in this paper.
Humans are directly responsible for global warming. Our lives involve the emission of theses dangerous greenhouses (Bushnell 25). Carbon dioxide has increased to 381 parts per million in the last century. Heavy usages of Coal, petroleum, and natural gas release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Every day we use these fossil fuels to meet our power, heating and transportation needs. Vehicles account for about 20% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. Deforestation has also affected great deal towards higher greenhouse gas level.
Global warming is one of the major problems facing the Earth. Our year is divided up into four seasons: summer, fall, winter, spring. Unless you live at the equator, you've likely noticed that each season has become slightly warmer and often drive than usual. Humans have been on Earth for a little over two hundred thousand years and the human population has been increased to over seven billion. According to the article “Global warming”, “Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released as people burn fossil fuels,” (1) The article by Kirschner ststaes, “ Carbon Dioxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless gas.” (Kirschner 168) The causes of global warming are greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the heat that gets trapped in. Both human and non-human factors have contributed to global warming, but only the human factors are within our control.
Climate change is an issue that is of major concern all around the world. Climate change should be a major concern right now and countries around the world need to implement changes to help improve the current conditions. Countries like the U.S. should set an example for everyone else by enforcing strict regulations on emissions and investing in clean energy sources to prevent further pollution of the planet and extreme weather cases directly linked to climate change. There are many causes of climate change, Current power plants burn fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas to generate electricity, however it is known that the burning of these fuels are dangerous and are a huge part of climate change. “The burning of these fuels, however, emits carbon dioxide, a gas that contributes to a phenomenon known as the greenhouse effect, which gradually causes the planet to warm and its climate to change” (Facts On File. Infobase Learning). These greenhouse gases absorb the heat from the sun and radiate it towards the Earth, however it also prevents some of the heat from leaving so this can lead to an increase of extreme weather cases. Scientists warn that if global greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced, the resulting climate change will lead to violent weather patterns, droughts, food scarcity, melting glaciers, and a rise in sea levels, all which could ultimately render the planet uninhabitable.
The main cause of global warming is due to greenhouse gases as well as other air pollutants that collect in the atmosphere. Sunlight and solar radiation that should have bounced off the earth’s surface is absorbed by these pollutants. If the pollutants weren’t in the atmosphere, radiation would escape into space. Pollutants are known to last as long as centuries within the atmosphere, they trap heat and in turn cause the planet to overheat. This is the greenhouse effect; the greenhouse effect is the cause of global warming.
Global warming is a growing problem and if it is left alone it will destroy the Earth. The main cause of global warming is the industrialization of the world; this began with the Industrial Revolution in the seventeenth century. The Industrial Revolution was the beginning of an era with machines, which lead to mass production, and more jobs. It allowed countries to produce higher quality products in less time. This was the switch from rural, agriculture towns to larger, urbanized cities. The Industrial Revolution then led to a higher
One could explain Global warming by defining it as the warming of the Earth’s surface which results while the atmosphere of the Earth traps heat so the more rapidly humans create polluting industries and emitting fossil fuels we are responsible for. The earth is getting warmer. The changes are small, so far, but scientist are expecting this climate change to grow larger and speedup. Within the next fifty to one hundred years, the earth may heat more than it has in the last million years which is very concerning to human existence. As oceans warm and glaciers melt, land and cities along coasts may be flooded. Heat and drought factors like we have seen in recent years in California’s rapid rate of drought fires will occur in many areas around the world. One major cause of global warming is the
Global warming is the warming of our planet at an extreme rate. The Earth’s climate has warmed by 7.8OC since 1880. (Quick facts about science, 2015). What causes global warming? The cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide. This acts like a blanket. Protecting the earth, and heating the earth. Sun rays would normally bounce around the earth, but with the blanket, the sun rays heat the blanket which heats the earth. (Petersen Science Text Book by G. Linstead, W. Clarke, 2015). “Of all the wealthy countries, we are probably the most vulnerable,” says Professor Will Steffen, executive director of ANU’s Climate Change Institute. “We’re locked into another 0.5OC temperature rise due to past emissions, but what we do between now and 2050 is crucial for the magnitude and rate of climate change later this century and beyond,” he says. (ABC, 2015) Figure 1.0 shows the percentage of carbon emissions being emitted into the atmosphere. Humans are contributing more and more to the amount of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere because every person now has a car and each car releases 9 kilograms of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere. Every factory has huge pipes, which are used to emit thousands of kilograms of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere. This is leading to the cause of global warming because carbon dioxide attracts heat from the sun, which acts as a blanket, like a green house. With the layers of
