Global warming, as aforementioned, is the increase in earth’s average temperature due to the release of greenhouse gasses people burn as fossil fuels. Greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide, methane and Nitrous oxide gasses are compounds that are able to trap heat in the atmosphere.(Environmental Protection Agency, 2015). This is called the “greenhouse effect”. Solar energy emitted from the sun is absorbed at the earth’s surface and is then re-radiated back into the atmosphere as heat (infrared-radiation). Greenhouse gasses absorb and trap some of this infrared-radiation on the earth’s atmosphere which causes the earth to warm up. It’s like they place a ‘warm blanket’ on the earth. Global warming is the ever growing tension and a controversial issue that is debated widely for the past few years. There are many critics and disbelievers still present in the politics and science field , who do not think that this issue is increasing at such a large scale. It may be due to the lack of evidences in this field, that resulted into this thought that it is the natural process that is evolving on this planet in cycles. In this present era the existence of global warming is not remained any controversial issue, but the causes and impact of global warming are still in the hot debates.

There are many gases that are emitted into the atmosphere that implicate the acceleration and poutiness of the greenhouse effect. These gases are called the greenhouse gases; they are all a natural part of the atmosphere, but because of human interaction they are increasing drastically. They are: carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, hydro fluorocarbons, per fluorocarbon, and sulfur hexafluoride, these seven gases are aiding in the acceleration of global warming (Energy and the Environment). Carbon dioxide is a gas made up of one carbon and two oxygen atoms; when infrared radiation enters the molecule it begins to shake rapidly thus shooting radiation back out towards the earth (The Greenhouse Effect). When this occurs the molecule is empty again and is allowed to have another greenhouse gas emitted into it; this cycle is called the absorption-emission-absorption cycle (The Greenhouse Effect). This cycle is a main attributor to the heating up of the earth’s surface. The other six of the main greenhouse gases go through this cycle and with all of these gases absorbing and reemitting radiation back towards the earth the radiation levels have increased drastically. Global warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon within our planet that needs to be reduced because it is affecting us in many harmful ways. It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has been impacting us negatively in ways such as biodiversity and climate conditions. Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. Over the years, scientists have conducted experiments to understand the causes and effects of global warming and they have searched for solutions. They have warned others about the dangers of pollution and human activities and have urged others to do something about it. In short, global warming represents a threat to all living things on earth.

One main cause of global warming is the “greenhouse effect”. According to NASA, this can be described as warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in the atmosphere, such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide, sit in the atmosphere, helping block heat from escaping. Human activities such as biomass burning and the use of commercial and organic fertilizers increase nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. Human activity such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels contribute to adding carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This directly ties in to the next cause of climate change, rising carbon dioxide levels.

Global warming is one of the major problems that the human race face in this modern world. This problem is threatening the humanity and the life of our planet. Even though global warming is an inevitable naturally slow process, since the mid 1900’s with start of the industrialization era, global warming increased its rate. We have to start taking actions now before the global warming many negative effects start becoming more catastrophic. In this paper I am going to explain the causes and the consequences of global warming and how it will impact the life of humanity in a long term perspective.

Ice caps are of the most visible and common victim because ice can change its chemical properties faster than most other land masses. It's has been affecting glaciers more rapidly since the early 1980's. In some places we have seen a 30-40% reduction in surface area and 50% reduction in volume due to just an increase of 2-degrees Celsius.

Global warming over the past 50 years has been experiencing rising global temperatures from the human trend “greenhouse effect”. The role on human activity have produces greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide causing much of earths temperatures rising over the past 50 years. The impacts of Global warming are fueling frequent droughts, heaver rainfall, hotter heat waves, and powerful hurricanes. Global warming occurs when greenhouse gasses, carbon dioxide, and other hazardous collect in earth’s atmosphere absorbing sunlight and solar radiation trapping heat and causing temperatures to rise. In the United states, the burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest source of pollution, producing carbon dioxide. Fossil fuel burning such as coal and oil power plants are the country’s biggest polluters. The country’s second largest source of carbon pollution is transportation sector. Transportation sectors such as automobiles, planes and trains generates about 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Due to the advancements of scientist, energy efficient technology, modernized power plants now burn less fossil fuels decreasing the emission of carbon dioxide. As a result, the effects of global warming are melting glaciers, effecting agriculture, disruption of habitats, and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens.

When I thought of global warming, I would think of warmer and shorter winters, longer and hotter summers. But global warming is more than we think and there is effective ways to make our world safer and healthier. In order to end global warming, we must get companies to adapt to eco-friendly manufacturing and distribution practices. But first we must educate ourselves on what global warming really is.

The Earth is warming up, so what does this mean for the billions of people that will be affected, if global warming continues? Global warming is the act of Greenhouse Gases; which is Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen in the form of water vapor. These greenhouse gases are how the Earth stays warm, heat comes from the sun and with the help of greenhouse gases; the heat from the sun becomes trapped; to keep the Earth warm. Global warming is affecting the lives of billions of people, with extreme weather, effects on food production, and rising health concerns.

Scientists around the world have been researching climate change since the 1970’s. One thing most agree on is that the temperature of Earth is rising at a rapid pace and that global warming has been caused mostly by human activity. Our atmosphere contains gases that act as a blanket, because it traps heat from the sun and prevents it from escaping back into space. The trapping of the sun’s heat by these gases is known as the greenhouse effect, and the gases are called greenhouse gases. The main greenhouse gases that occur in nature are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Without the greenhouse effect, earth would be too cold to support life.

Generally, our common understandings about Global Warming would be that the weather or the temperature’s changing; for example, we physically feel the winter is getting warmer or the spring seems comes earlier this year. However, the effect of the Global Warming is way greater than our physical feelings. As the dictionary’s definition, “An increase in the average temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase great enough to cause changes in the global climate”, for the macro aspects, global warming is gradually affecting the sea-level, animals and plants, agriculture and human-being’s heath. Lately, I’ve been really interesting in the global warming’s affects, because the city where I live back in China is suffering a really bad pollution, people call it as Toxic Haze, not only in my hometown, but all the China’s eastern coast were blanketed by this toxic haze, a famous geographer in China bring forward a perspective that this terrible pollution is related with the effect of the Global Warming. Thus, I think the Global Warming have already involved or threaten our living quality and health. Global Warming’s situation is getting worse and more serious.

As global issues today become increasingly controversial, many people are inclined to believe that Global Warming is an issue that can take a backseat to more significant issues that plague today’s society. The information presented throughout my research in regards to the rising sea levels and the melting of glaciers and ice shelves, highly indicates that it cannot. What many Americans fail to realize is that if sea levels continue to rise due to Global Warming, then more than half of Louisiana, Florida, parts of southern California, and the entire eastern coastline would cease to exist.
