Global Warming: Why the Earth's Temperature Has Dramatically Increased
For the past few decades, there has been controversy whether global warming actually exists. Is it real or is it a hoax? According to NASA, “Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves” ("Global Climate"). The cause of these effects is the greenhouse effect. According to National Geographic, “The "greenhouse effect" is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat” (“What Is”). An example of changing the natural greenhouse is burning fossil fuels, which can result in global warming. So what are the consequences, and are they really that bad? Global warming can lead to more droughts and heat waves, stronger hurricanes, and rising sea levels.
In the last 150 years, the industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have doubled the amount of carbon dioxide levels we put into the atmosphere (“Climate Change). The result of the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere is a warmer earth. These warmer conditions will lead to more or less precipitation, depending on the region. The increased rainfall can result in flooding. In other regions, the increase in precipitation can also lead to longer, drier droughts. Droughts in the Southwest of the U.S. are becoming more intense,
Humans are pouring carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a much faster rate than the rate at which plants and oceans can absorb it. Global warming is the increase in the overall temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere; global warming is a delicate topic because it is happening right now no one can stop it from happening. It is already transforming life on Earth, shifting the seasons, raising the temperature and rising the sea level. Other effects of global warming include stronger storms, extinction of species, rapid disappearance of Artic ice, and the increase of the ozone hole. It became an issue in 1988 when a scientist from NASA found that "Global warming has reached a level such that we can ascribe with a high degree of confidence a cause and effect relationship between the greenhouse effect and observed warming" (Hansen). James E. Hansen testimony was a big thing that everyone start to worry about it and everyone was talking about global warming because the media contribute to it. Global warming is a big thing happening right now but we don’t listen to others and we continue with our life’s without looking around us and without helping to stop the cause of it because as a humans we make errors during life but we learn from the errors and the bad choices. Although some people believe mankind is not responsible for global warming, it is a serious problem worldwide and measures are need to help slow the problem.
Global warming has been a very contentious issue of late in regards to environmental health and safety. Many pundits and critics alike exclaim that global warming is not as prevalent as individuals claim. One such pundit is that of George Will, whose article, "Dark Green Doomsdayers" indicates that global warming is simply a hoax. The statistics however prove otherwise. Global warming and its effects are far reaching. Society is affected due to higher frequency of natural disasters and drought. Wildlife suffers as many animals become extinct, primarily in the artic region. Agriculture suffers as warming creates a larger propensity for drought and forest fires. This ultimately affects the American tax payer as more money is needed to help abate the fires influences on society. Currently, global warming is coming to the forefront both politically and nationally. It is a very real problem, that can easily be solves through ingenuity and perseverance.
Global warming is occurring all over the world. It is causing dangerous new weather patterns, including, hurricane and tornado strength. It also impacts the ocean in a bad way quickly destroying habitats. People are the main reason that global warming is happening because of all the fossil fuels we burn daily. Overall, global warming is dangerous and is happening.
Bailey Campbell Campbell 1 Robin Gore English 3 31 August 2017 Global warming Humans are destroying the Earth and we need to do something about it! The atmosphere acts as a greenhouse around the Earth protecting us and keeping us alive (Climate change causes:A blanket around the Earth). We pollute the Earth and cause global warming and that is ruining the atmosphere and killing us. Some people don't believe in global warming but the proof is astounding. There are two gases that make up the atmosphere: forcing and feedback. Forcing gases block heat and they don't respond to changes in temperature. Some examples are Carbon Dioxide, which is released naturally and by burning fossil fuels, and Methane which is released from landfills and livestock. When Carbon Dioxide is released it generates heat which stays trapped in the atmosphere and warms the Earth. When Methane is released it absorbs heat from the sun and warms the Earth.Theses are the main causes of global warming. Feedback gases do respond to changes in temperature. An example of a feedback gas is water vapor. Water vapor increases as the Earth is warmed. As it increases more clouds and rain occur (climate change causes: a blanket around the Earth). As humans we need to work together to reduce these gases in our atmosphere. Campbell 2 The release of Carbon dioxide and other pollutants have caused many problems for human life. Droughts threaten people throughout the world. Eventually the whole world will have to
which causes population .Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice. Global warming also it is impacting the environment. isaac ②That’s the conclusion of some of the world’s leading geoscientists, who conducted a study that found global warming is occurring more slowly than computer models forecast a decade ago. The study, published in the journal Nature Geoscience , does not contradict the scientists’ concerns that global warming is dramatically damaging the environment, but it does suggest that it’s not too late to do something about it. Causes and effects of climate change What causes climate change (also known as global warming)? And what are the effects of climate change? Learn the human impact and consequences of climate change for the environment, and our lives.
According to Robert Frost once said, “ Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I’ve tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire.” This quotation can link to the concept of global warming. Global warming can be interpreted as an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that induces corresponding changes in climate, and that may be associated with the greenhouse effect. I chose to do my cause and effect essay on global warming because I believe it has a significant impact on humans, not only today but especially in the future.
Global warming refers to an extended increase in the earth's average and average temperatures of the atmosphere and water bodies especially the oceans and seas. The problem of global warming has resulted in various negative ramifications affecting humankind. Human activities have significantly led to the increasing effects of global warming that is experienced in different places worldwide. Global warming was experienced in the 20th century when the earth's average temperature rose by 0.60 Celsius from an average temperature of oceans and the atmosphere (Ritter, 11-21). Global warming distracts the typical living conditions since the temperatures increase to extreme limits and deplete the Ozone layer which is meant to protect human being from the effects of direct rays of the sun. The Ozone layer is very significant and needs to be preserved to avoid the impact of direct sunshine which causes sunburns on human skin. It is clear that global warming has been increasing to a more significant extent since the 18th century due to the actions of human beings themselves. The core reason behind this tremendous increase is the new developments in technology and setting up of industries. Industries emit dangerous gases from burning fossils fuels, gasoline hence producing carbon dioxide which depletes the Ozone layer which is purposely meant to shield the earth from direct sunshine. This paper discusses the various causes of global warming that has been majorly attributed to humans
It is also known that volcanoes have affected the cause of global warming. Volcanoes are said to emit carbon dioxide (CO2) in two ways. First during the volcanic eruptions and secondly through underground magma which is a combination of molten rock and gases below the surface of the Earth that may erupt from a volcano as lava [12]. When the volcanoes erupt the gas from the volcanoes pollute the air causing gas emissions to be let out. Most of the carbon dioxide that is released by volcanoes is emitted by degassing of subterranean magma when the volcano is not erupting [5]. It is also said that volcanoes can “alter the orbit of the earth” which makes it a key factor for climate change. While volcanoes only exist in certain parts of the planet, the release of gas, dust, and ash into the atmosphere can cause a lot of damage. Even the smallest particles of dust can get trapped into the stratosphere for months which in turn will cause
Global warming is already taking place. It stopped being a prediction. The temperature at the earth’s surface has averagely increased by around 0.60 C.Both the oceans and the air are warming. It is believed that the greenhouses gases’ concentrations in the atmosphere have increased dramatically since the periods of pre-industrialization. This condition is caused by the activities of human beings most especially through the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil, and coal (Wang & Chameides 1). Deforestation is also another cause. This essay will discuss what global warming is, its causes and effects.
Over the past decade, the Earth’s gradual temperature increase has sparked a debate amongst scientists and politicians. Scientists have conducted research to understand the cause and effect of global warming, but it can take years for scientists to reach a consensus. The claims that global warming is the next apocalypse or is just some fairy tale lack scientific proof. These claims have confused the general public, and leave many citizens’ questions unanswered. Many people are concerned about the overall decline of environmental health due to an increase in man-made greenhouse gas emissions, but experts are now clarifying the debate on global warming with hard scientific evidence that may prove global climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon.
Global warming is the believe in which the actions of humanity and their way of life has impacted the world temperature of its atmosphere to rise up. Thus, heating up the planet or what is commonly known as Global Warming. This cause is occurring because of the greenhouse effect in which by producing a large amount of carbon dioxide, pollutants and heat, the suns warmth gets trapped in the planet’s atmosphere. In which instead of releasing the normal amount of heat it stays within the planet. For example, an iceberg that would normally take hundreds of years to melt it would only take a few years now. This is due because most humans don’t really think of their actions and most still believe till this day that the global warming is a hoax created by scientist. Yet scientist have confirmed that the greenhouse effect begins with the sun and the energy that it radiates to the earth. The earth might be able to absorb most of it with its atmosphere, while sending the rest back into space. Yet because we release extra greenhouse gases the earth can only reflect a little back to space. This makes the world become experience hotter days than it supposed to. For instance, if a water bottle is left on the freezer and then taken out it would take a lot of time for the ice to melt back into water. whereas if you were to hold it with your warm hands you would see the ice melt faster than usual. This is what happens when as humanities we overlook the fact that we are destroying our world little by little. We drive everyday worrying about getting from point A to point B on time that we forget that we are burning up fossil fuels. After the industrial revolution and the development of factories we began to multiply the gases we let out into the atmosphere. This causes for the ice caps that surround us to melt and increase the sea level, thus creating floods in certain parts of the worlds. Also large wildfires are growing because of the dangerous heat waves. For example in the country of India their streets have experience the extreme heatwaves where their asphalt has melted as if it was put in a furnace. In California, we also experience recent droughts were lakes were completely dried up, leaving no evidence of water. We are
Global warming, often confused with the term “climate change,” is a problem of worldly proportions that knows no limits and if it continues unchecked, the effects felt around the planet could be devastating; everything from human society, to the environment, to the world economy would be altered in one way or another. The purpose of this research paper is to understand the topic of global warming, its causes and effects, in order to help understand better what actions we can take to slow down its progression and become part of the solution. Global warming, as it stands, poses a monumental threat to the planet and all of its occupants; while mega polluters do not have an incentive to stop greenhouse gas production, we can, as individuals
Earth is warming up, so what does this mean for the billions of people that will be affected, if global warming continues? Global warming is the act of Greenhouse Gases; which is Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen in the form of water vapor. These greenhouse gases are how the Earth stays warm, heat comes from the sun and with the help of greenhouse gases; the heat from the sun becomes trapped; to keep the Earth warm. Since the industrial revolution, which increased the use of fossil fuel, Earth’s temperature is rising at an alarming rate (Gale Video, 2015). Global warming is affecting the lives of billions of people, with extreme weather, effects on food production, and rising health concerns.
Global warming was once speculative but, after much research, it has since been scientifically proven by a number of methods. One such method is that used by paleoclimatologist Lonnie Thomas who collects the cores from ice masses all around the globe for his analysis of stable isotopes found in oxygen as discussed on page 452 of the text. Essentially, Thompson and his team concluded from their findings that “…most ice cores indicate that the last 50 years were the warmest 50-year period in the last 2000 years and, in some places, for the entire Holocene! Our climate is clearly going to grow even warmer and less hospitable” (Larsen 452). What, exactly, is global warming? “The increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere
Due to the warming of the Earth and the changing climates, more major shifts in the weather could happen more frequently. Many scientists worry that the continuous warming of the atmosphere in the future decades could causes destructive storms and extreme climatic events to occur more often. El Nino, the Pacific coast phenomenon that causes a warm current along Peru’s coast, has occurred for the last four years in a row. It has led to crop failures in Australia and floods in California and has affected the monsoons of Southeast Asia (Bender 77). Meteorologist Gerhard Berz states that global warming is affecting the severity and frequency of natural disasters. The amount of destructive storms in recent years is four times more than there were in the 1960s (Bender 77). These temperamental storms could have vast effects globally, wiping out countries, and taking lives of all kinds of species on Earth.
