The film called “The Cats of Mirikitani,” describes the story of a man named Jimmy Mirikitani. Jimmy was born in Sacramento, California in 1920. He was raised and educated in Hiroshima Japan. He came back to the United States in order to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. Unfortunately, in 2001, he ended up living in the streets of New York. In order to survive, he used to sell his paintings. Those paintings showed his love for cats and illustrated his experiences through life such as: his childhood in Hiroshima, Pearl Harbor and WWII camps. During WWII he denied his American Citizenship but years later, he got his citizenship back. However, he never received the letter to inform him that he was again an American citizen. On September 11, after the terrorist attack of the World Trade Center, a woman named Linda decided to invite Jimmy to her apartment, so he had a safe place to stay. This model gives the opportunity to understand Jimmy’s life by analyzing the relationship between the biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors, as well as his challenges in living. Since Jimmy was homeless, some of his biological systems were in danger. For example, due to the weather conditions and air pollution , the respiratory and immune system were in danger. Also, as a homeless person, he did not have access to healthy food; as a result, his digestive system was also in risk. In addition, Jimmy was a person that had to live traumatic episodes in his life such as: losing his family and spending some of his lifetime in the WWII camps. Therefore, those experiences opened the possibility for him to develop mental illness such as: Post Traumatic Disorder or
"All the things I am about to tell you are shameless lies." So begins the Books of Bokonon. Bokononism is an original religion that is introduced in this book, Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. The book shows the importance of religion, even if that religion is "shameless lies". It also displays how people convince themselves that things are better then they really are. I read this book because of a promise I made to my father. I'm glad I made that promise; I just read a delightfully funny and deep tale about the end of the world.
Edgar Allen Poe’s short story The Black Cat immerses the reader into the mind of a murdering alcoholic. Poe himself suffered from alcoholism and often showed erratic behavior with violent outburst. Poe is famous for his American Gothic horror tales such as the Tell-Tale Heart and the Fall of the House of Usher. “The Black Cat is Poe’s second psychological study of domestic violence and guilt. He added a new element to aid in evoking the dark side of the narrator, and that is the supernatural world.” (Womack). Poe uses many of the American Gothic characteristics such as emotional intensity, superstition, extremes in violence, the focus on a certain object and foreshadowing lead the reader through a series of events that are horrifying

A series of verses commencing with the word “for”, Christopher Smart’s “My Cat Jeoffry” is surprisingly modernistic and intriguing. Written while Smart was confined in a mental asylum for incessant praying, the aphoristic poem praises the cat Jeoffry, a faithful servant to God. Unrestricted by rigid poetic structures, “My Cat Jeoffry” is nevertheless organized and coherent, ablaze with a current of religious fervour. It is impossible to know if the poem was inspired by genius or by madness, but it is infused with sanity and truth. While the poem is about a cat’s devotion to God through its daily actions, Smart’s “My Cat Jeoffry” also serves as a lesson to humankind.
Cats Cradle is surfaced around science fiction, religion, and society while keeping a steady sense of humor. The overwhelming theme that I was able to easily relate to, was the biblical connection that was present throughout the novel; specifically, the Book of Ecclesiastes.
Cissy was a princess in her family, unfortunately, her father get broke several months ago. But Cissy was an optimistic and kind-hearted girl.
Dear editor, there are many books that are worth reading for six weeks. Into the Mouth of the Cat simply isn’t one of them. As a student of the 8th grade our class has been reading this book for six weeks and has just finished completing it. For me personally I have never been a fan of war nor do I patronize or believe it. When I had first saw the book I was very skeptical of it, my skepticism lead me to be correct. In conclusion of this claim Into the Mouth of the Cat was not worth reading for six weeks.
“The Black Cat” by Edgar Allan Poe is one of Poe’s greatest literary works that embodies his signature themes of death, violence, and darkness. Poe’s main character begins his narration of his horrible wrongdoings regarding them as a “series of mere household events” (Poe 705). However, this is where Poe’s satire and irony begins and the story progresses to show the deranged mindset of this character as he tries to justify his actions. As the main character proceeds to rationalize his crime, Poe is able to convey a sense of irony through his use of foreshadowing, metaphors and symbolism.
Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Black Cat” is the story of a man who battles addiction. Poe uses a variety of symbolism to portray how the narrator’s life spirals out of control due to his inability to maintain his sobriety. The story’s narrator and main character gives us a glimpse into his childhood: he had a “tenderness of heart” and he was “especially fond of animals, and was indulged by my parents with a great variety of pets”. The animals and pets that the narrator speaks about are symbolic for different drugs. The propensity to addiction was introduced to him as a tender child, by his parents. Once a full blown addict, the narrator gets married to woman who is also an addict. The narrator states that his wife has a “disposition not uncongenial
“Remember we may not get one at all it really depends on if they get along with our puppy,Brixn and bird,Pink,”my dad continues hopefully. I know Dad i think to myself, knowing that if I said that out loud we probably won't be getting a kitten at all. So I keep all my thoughts to myself. As I walk to store doors with my mom, dad,my second older brother Jeremiah and I. “Im sooo excited,” I shout in awe that we are finally here. As I rushed to the cat cages I see the one I want, and Jeremiah sees the one he wants (that is not the same as mine.) “You may go in,” says the manager as he opens the door to the cat cage and continues “just twist the knob if you wanna go into the kitten cage”
The theory that best explains Jimmy’s life on a micro level, is Resiliency theory. Resilience is described as “the capacity of a dynamic system to adapt successfully to disturbances that threaten the viability, the function, or the development of that system” (Southwick, Bonanno, Masten, Panter-Brick & Yehuda, 2014, p.4). This means that resilience can be shown by the person’s capacity to adjust himself to new and difficult situations. In Jimmy’s case, during his life, he had to adapt himself to different environmental conditions.
“I withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain.” (116) Edgar Allan Poe was a man born in 1809 who writes stories that symbolize different eras in his life. The narrator wanted revenge, but he usually got caught and executed later on. In Poe’s short story, The Black Cat, the theme of sadness is the way to revenge and anger is shown through setting, character, and conflict.
Edgar Allen Poe was one of the most influential and important writers of the nineteenth century. He was the first writer to try to make a living only writing. One of Poe’s most popular short stories, “The Black Cat”, is considered horror fiction or gothic fiction which Poe is known for in his books and short stories because it was a popular genre during his days. In Poe’s short story, “The Black Cat”, Poe uses a horror fiction genre, a mentally deranged and evil narrator/character, and symbolism of death to make a thrilling story with tons of suspense, drama, and gruesome detail.
There once was a feline with beautiful, shiny fur and cute round ears that lived in the far mountains of the West. Everyday, the feline would go down to the waterfall by her den and clean and fluff her fur. She was one of the most beautiful creatures in the land and would always be the center of attention wherever she went.
It was a cold windy night, the leaves were swaying through the cold wind. Billy searched everywhere to find someone who would help him find a place to eat. Until suddenly he wondered upon a man and asked if he knew any good restaurants nearby. The stranger replied, “ down the street on the left there is a nice pizza place.”
