In order to find an event to go, I went up to an informative booth in front of Barnes and Nobles, where a student who works there gladly looked up a series of events I could attend. After listing several of them, she said that there was a Career Service event during the next days. Without hesitation I decided to go, my mistake was not having known the proper and key information before going. The day finally arrived and I was ready to participate in The Career Services Event. My experience during the event was very surprising. As I approached the Graham Center, I observed a plethora of people dressed in suits. I thought only the representatives were supposed to dress like that, but as I entered the Ballroom I saw how the students were also dressed
Considering the fact that I am not looking for a job in the St. Louis area I did not think the Career Fair would be very beneficial to me. However, I decided to take a chance and get all I could out of the fair and I honest believe I got more out of it than I expected. My only regret was that Scheffel Boyle was not there, because they are my top choice for where I want to start my career once I graduate with my MSA and I really wanted to talk to them.
“Career services will be down here to provide networking and career planning,” Everhart said. “We’ll also have in our office down here a group that’s from the health center to help with any type of questions.”
The mission of the Career Center is, “to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local, and global partnerships” (Career Center, 2014). This is supported by their vision statement, “Empowering students and alumni to identify and achieve individual goals for career success” (Career Center, 2014). The mission and vision statements both closely align with the Council for the Advancement of Higher Education (CAS, 2015), the National Association Colleges and Employers (NACE), and The University of North Texas (UNT). According to the UNT website, the mission of UNT is, “a major public research university deeply committed to advancing educational excellence and preparing students to become thoughtful, engaged citizens of the world” (Mission, 2015). The Career Center complements the mission of the institution by providing services that enable students to pursue
I feel the main purpose of the Career Services Center is to assist students in determining a major, find internships and/or full-time positions, helping them determine their career path, as well as preparing students for interviews and jobs. All of this is a big benefit to any student, and the services are offered free of charge.
I was given the opportunity to get to know some recruiters and look into some possible internship opportunities with them. Being located in the nation’s capitol, I’m positive that the career services center along with GWork could help me polish myself to become the potential employee I aspire to be.
What type of career services do you feel would benefit new graduates the most? Explain why. I feel there are a few career services that would benefit new graduates. The first one I would choose is getting help through the college that they graduated from. I think this one would be the most beneficial to the new graduate because the school has connections. They can teach you the best way to write your resume. They can also set up interviews for you. Career fairs would be a career service that would benefit new graduates. I have never been to one myself but at a career fair, you would have a chance to meet and talk to a potential employer. Career fairs are beneficial because you can make networking contacts. So even if the job they are offering
Furthermore, volunteers who participated in this initiative were given incentives also pushed a desire to do the best. “Employee volunteers were told that their commitment to the program would ultimately help all workers enhance their long-term career opportunities at Walgreens; generating great interest among employees, and the company quickly identified the appropriate number if volunteers to kick off the initiative” (Jackson, Mathis, & Valentine, 2014, p. 328). In addition to the kickbacks given to volunteers, these employees also benefitted by being able to control their own career prospects at Walgreens. It was necessary to rely on employee blueprints to enhance career management in the company because it “identified possible employment paths that operated through a variety of career tracks; provided the proper training activities and enhancement opportunities that facilitate the accomplishment of career goals; and positioned the company as a desirable employer” (Jackson, et al., 2014, p.

I attended the STEM Career Fair at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom on October 6th. In this fair, they had about three isles of booths with representatives from the company/corporation ranging from Dell from Round Rock to Home Depot to Samsung from Austin. I choose this event because I feel like it’s important to get a feel for what a career fair would be like. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a job but I at least wanted to see what it’s like to go and talk the representatives. I was able to ask them what they look for and they gave me some tips for when I go with intentions of finding a job. Although this wasn’t my first career, I enjoyed going because this fair pertained to my major and I was able to see what kind of jobs I could get after I graduate. After talking to the people representing their

At the Career Services event I met a lot of people, such as faculty, students, the Johnny and all. It was a very fun and informative session that exposed me to new ideas, new opportunities etc. The students that I met there were really kind and caring they were funny and well informed of their tasks, they knew everything about what they talked about and they were very helpful with directions. The dean that I met and spoke with is Dean Palastro. She asked me what my major was and I told her Criminal Justice. We then went on to talk about my major and what it really is and what I should expect and that I’ll be just fine.
The Career Fair at NCSC was like the Bryant Career Fair on steroids – I have never seen anything like it. With over 40 companies across the nation, it was a lot to take in. Overwhelming at first, but beneficial in the long run. By networking with different companies for two days, I was able to build confidence in myself. Because I was a sophomore, I was considered a baby because companies were looking for juniors and seniors in terms of internships. But with the amount of networking I was able to do, it has only made me more eager to see what types of opportunities are presented when I do meet the qualifications of junior and senior
In conclusion, my attendance to this career fair was about what I expected given the fact I didn't think very many businesses would be offering internships to aspiring physician's assistants. One thing I wish the Business and Technology career fair had was hospitals or more medical related opportunities. Outside that fact, I would say my overall experience at the fair was a positive
