The Collation of Stephen Crane and Bret Harte
Stephen Crane’s short story, The Blue Hotel, is a very diverse and interesting story with many themes. One of the themes is consequences for your actions. In the story a man they called the Swede went to a bar and tried to force a Gambler to drink with him. He kept pushing and wouldn’t leave the man alone resulting the Swede being killed. Another theme in this short story is honesty. During the Story the Swede claimed while playing cards that another character, Johnny, was cheating. While Johnie denied it another guy at the table, known as the Easterner, also knew he was cheating, but he didn’t speak up resulting in Johnny and the Swede fighting. Consequently causing the Swede to go to the bar where he was killed. The Easterner felt guilty for the death of the Swede because if he only would’ve been honest about Johnny cheating the Swede would have never went to the bar where he was killed.
The Story Tennessee’s partner, written by Bret Harte also has many themes that are well presented while reading. The main characters, Tennessee and Tennessee’s partner, have a very complicated yet strong relationship. In the beginning of the story to the reader they are seen as friends until Tennessee does a dreadful thing to his partner. Friendship over all can be shown when Tennessee runs away with

They both show, the theme of integrity through their characters. You can see this between the Easterner in The Blue Hotel and Tennessee’s partner in the story Tennessee’s Partner. The Easterner, at the end of the story, shows integrity by telling the truth to the cowboy even if it might have been a little too late. Moreover, Tennessee’s partner shows integrity throughout the whole story. For example, when Tennessee runs off with his wife and returned Tennessee’s partner was not upset what so ever. He was the first one to greet him when he returned never upset with him at any
Rebirth is an over arching theme in the book, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, written by Jamie Ford. One of the main symbols of second rebirth is the ever-present Oscar Holden record. The records symbolizes not only Henry and Keiko’s relationship, but how it can be renewed. From when Henry and Keiko buy the record, to Henry finding it 40 years later, the record always has a strong significance in the book.
Thank you for writing our consultancy in regards to the predicament facing you and your team at the Radicor Hotel Darling Harbor Sydney. I understand this time must bring you considerable angst; especially considering Simcom- the partial owners- intend on divesting from one of her hotels: the Radicor being one such possibility. As such, I have taken this case under my personal consideration. You will find at the end, an appendix (Reference List) for any sources which I have used to underline criteria or feedback regarding the adverse review received by your
Another local-color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee’s Partner was the development of characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the characters – even Tennessee and his partner – at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched-skinned, strong, simple womanizing men.
William blue was born in Jamaica on 1763. As he later claimed to have served with the British army in the American war of independence,he may have been a freed African-American slave from colonial New York. By 1796, however, he was living at Deptford, London, and working as a chocolate-maker and a lumper (worker) in ships in the River Thames. On 4 October that year at Young women/cleaning womentone, Kent, Blue Was convicted of stealing raw sugar--probably meant for confectionery making--and sentenced to seven years transportation. After over four years in convict (giant people or things/frames of ships, etc.), he was taken to (the study of plants) Bay in the Minorca. He was described in convict records as 'a Jamaican Negro sailor', (old/allowed to get old/got older) 29 in 1796.
In “The Blue Hotel” and “The Worn Path”, a common denominator is witnessed, which is the apprehensive and antagonistic environment that both short stories possess. Although the Swede was “off his rocker” in “The Blue Hotel” due to his naive and fictions representation of what he believed Nebraska would be, the atmosphere was just as colossal a factor. Surrounded by a cowboy, the owner of the hotel, his son, and an easterner, the Swede was determined that he was experiencing the “Old West”, that he had read about and viewed in dime-store westerns. Because of his adolescent belief, he concluded that they were conspiring to dispose of him. Between the setting and his idea of what the west would be, it caused him to undergo a state of schizophrenia. Mirroring that of the Blue
When making his decision, McGregor should consider seriously the negative consequences that his business will experience if he refuses Alward’s offer to fill the motel for the two weekend nights in October, at half the room rate. If McGregor refuses, during that weekend his motel will be at his usual capacity of less than quarter full. With the church group there, paying half the rate, it will be as if the motel were half-full! In addition, if he refuses, McGregor’s reputation in the community will suffer, and he will also lose all future business from Alward’s group and other church groups, at regular price. Consequently, Justin McGregor should accept Alward’s offer but under the following two
The story takes place in Colorado and begins with Jack Torrance going to a place by name of “The Overlook Hotel” to be caretaker over the winter. He would be alone for five months with free food and stay. All Jack has to do is maintenance as handyman around the hotel. He arrives for the job interview and meets Lloyd (manager of the Overlook Hotel). They discuss hotel duties, then Lloyd brings up what happened a few years back at the hotel about a man who murdered his family from “cabin fever” caused by seclusion. Jack, stunned, says not to worry and he needs months to write. Lloyd gives him the job, asking him to come back tomorrow. The next day, his son Danny and wife Wendy join Jack at the hotel. They arrive while it’s the last day the
There is such a range of people walking the grounds (including visitors, visitors’ guests, college students, training staff, supervising staff, and contract workers) that ensuring proper security is important.
"The Blue Hotel" by Stephen Crane is a story about three travelers passing through Fort Romper, Nebraska. Pat Scully, the owner of the Palace Hotel, draws the men to his hotel that is near the train station. In the hotel the three men meet Johnnie, son of Scully, and agree to play a game of cards with him. During the game, the Swede declares Johnnie as a cheater; this gives rise to a fistfight between Johnnie and the Swede. The Swede wins the fight but leaves the hotel with a false sense of confidence. He goes to a nearby bar and boasts about his victory and eventually gets himself in a fight with a gambler; and Swede eventually is killed. The central idea behind the action in the story is
“Hotel California” by The Eagles has been the recipient of much speculation since its release in 1976. Although many other interpretations exist including some which claim this song to be referencing drugs, much evidence suggests that “Hotel California” is, at least partly, making a statement about the lifestyle of drug and alcohol users particularly in the large cities of California. As with many songs, duality of meaning exists in “Hotel California.”
Even if one feels they may have 'gotten away ' with a crime, the weight of a person’s conscience cannot be concealed. In someone’s life, too much power and control combined with a person’s conscience in a person’s life can and will lead to an imbalance and perhaps insanity as in the short story “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Edgar Allan Poe demonstrates how the narrator in this story goes through the greed and need for control, leading to his insanity that results in extreme guilt.
Blue Mountain Resorts were first built in 1941, and it is the largest family-operated ski resort in Canada. The major problem in this case is that the CEO of the Blue Mountain Resorts has to decide whether to install facilitates or not for the night skiing in 1979-1980 winter skiing season. Maintaining comfortable capacity at ski resort is very important in this field of market. The capacity depends on the hill size, hill development, and lift facilities. Therefore, to provide the night skiing service, investing in hills and lifts are important factors. So, if the CEO decides to install the night skiing facilities, he needs to decide the price of the single-night lift ticket
To choose to do the right thing and admit it or to try your hardest to deny deny deny. The most significant difference between the play and the actual case is that in the conviction of Minnie Wright from Trifles she had no regrets and she admitted to it. Mrs. Wright sat there on her chair and pleaded guilty to committing the crime in the most nonchalant way possible. “Mr. Hale: ’Cause he's dead," says she. "Dead?" says I. She just nodded her head, not getting a bit excited, but rockin' back and forth. "Why--where is he?" says I, not knowing what to say. She just pointed upstairs--like that [himself pointing to the room above]. I got up, with the idea of going up there. I walked from there to here--then I says, "Why, what did he die of?" "He died of a rope round his neck," says she, and just went on pleatin' at her apron…” (Glaspell, Trifles). Mrs. Wright was just sitting there in her rocking chair looking calm, cool, and collective not giving a care in the world about what she had just done. When Mr. Hale comes walking in asking about her husband and if he’s home she just responds with a simple yes and pretty much blurts out that she murdered her husband. She knew exactly what she did and the reasons for why she did it and for that she was not about to run because at this point in her life even though she was now going to be sent to
For the hospitality industry marketing is an essential part of operations that adds value to the basics of accommodation, food and beverages and turns them into desirable products for the customers with the use of good service and excellent presentation (Wearne and Morrison, 1996). Delhi is one of India’s most popular travel destinations for a good reason. There is much to see and experience in the city with world class hotels and some of India’s most famous festival celebrations. Even for a seasoned traveller, any trip to Delhi should still be preceded with some knowledge of the city to avoid overwhelm or an unpleasant experience for a first time visitor.
