There is also a spray to put under the tongue called Sativex. (p. 16). Oftentimes people will not want to smoke the marijuana because of the harmful effects it has on the lungs from the inhalation. That is why other options such as the pills, spray, food and a vaporization device have been developed. With the different options come different absorption rates. Finkel (2007) said when marijuana is smoked it will go into the lungs and bloodstream, which is then distributed throughout the body. When marijuana is ingested, it takes one to three hours to attain the maximum THC blood levels and the effects are much slower. (p.82). Using the Sativex spray under the tongue will allow for quick absorption into the blood stream. (Wilson, 2005, p.39). Legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes will take away from so many people using the drug illegally as a recreational drug. This is very significant in today’s society because of treatment benefits it could have on so many people if it was legalized throughout the states. If the government keeps seeing the benefits, the legalization of medicinal marijuana could happen in years to come, especially with new technology that could make things better. Even though medicinal marijuana has harmful effects, marijuana should be legalized for medicinal purposes because medicinal marijuana is less toxic than other prescribed drugs and marijuana has many positive effects on disease and health

Drugs are always around us, especially marijuana. It is the most commonly used drug in the world. As much as we are told not to use this substance or be around it, many have encountered it in some way before. Marijuana being illegal in most states does not stop people from using the substance. Since this illegal drug is still used no matter the situation why not benefit from it and legalize it throughout the United States? Marijuana could have a positive effect on America in relation to health and the economy.

Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn’t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can be used for medication. Medical marijuana is very a big and controversial issue in today's society, currently the community is divided on the issue. Questions are always being thrown around such as "how does marijuana affect the body?" and "what good does’ marijuana do for a person?" Researchers have tried to answer these questions with multiple studies and they have shown some of the positives of medical marijuana. If something is able to help someone who is in dire need why not use it on those people to find a better solution for them. I myself am on the supportive side of the issue of medical marijuana. I don't think it should be legal to just anyone though I believe there should be a legal age law, a driving while under the influence, and a public intoxication law in effect for medical marijuana to be legal.
One of America’s biggest controversy today is the legalization of marijuana. There are two forms of marijuana usage, medicinal and recreational. Personally I am in favor of medicinal and recreational use of marijuana. In comparison to the use of prescription pain killers (Opiates) and alcohol, the use of marijuana is far safer. The legalization of marijuana would lead to reduced crime rates and increase local, state and federal revenue.
