Transcendentalism has been around since the mid-1800’s. It is a philosophical belief which introduced a new way understanding truth and knowledge. According to transcendentalists, if knowledge could be found, it would derived from our intuition and contemplation of the internal soul and spirit, rather than relying on data from scientific evidence. Henry David Thoreau demonstrated his goal of self search and getting back in tune with nature by living in a self-built cabin for 2 years at Walden Pond. He arrived at knowledge of himself through reconnecting with nature. My senior project is a near replication of Thoreau’s process to reach self knowledge. Instead of building my own cabin in the woods, I documented my saunter adventure at many hiking …show more content…
I had people giving me suggestions and recommendations of trails. However, it is always best to search for places that is beneficial to yourself, rather than listening to others because you know yourself the best. Upon searching for potential hiking trails, I stumbled onto a website, which is run by the state called, Washington Trails Association. Within this website, many people within the community update each other on trail status to help avoid danger, and gave review of the breath-taking nature. I discovered a tab dubbed, “Urban Cure: Hikes Within 30 Minutes from Seattle”. From there I saw a plethora amount of trails from parks, state parks, to wilderness to pick from. Three trails caught my eyes, Cougar Mountain being one, Tiger Mountain and Rattlesnake is the other. They grabbed my attention because they were nearby and almost with the same area, also I’ve never been on these trails. I also saw Discovery Park is a popular choice among amature hikers who need a quick fix of mother nature. These four potential trails were just a rough draft at the time, simultaneously, I’ve got bigger things to sort out. Which day am I carrying out my saunter adventure in order for others to join without them taking too much time out of their …show more content…
I have my license, I’m a decent driver who obey the rules and law, but my dad continue to refute to add me into our family car insurance plan. I think it was because of separation anxiety which prevented him from purchasing a car insurance plan for me. Typically Asian parents want their child to depend on them, and physically close to their child. My dad assumed that if I had car insurance, I would start to distance myself away from our family, and depend on myself. Which would portray him as a father who failed to connect to his child. But why would I do anything like that if our family treated me so well? I could never figure out Asian parent’s thought
We started on 371 heading towards Brainerd/Baxter area going through Fort Ripley and Crow Wing going to Baxter. We stopped in at Fleet Farm to get some gear, and we also stopped in at S & W Bait and Tackle to get some bait for the trip. After we came out of Baxter, we went through Nisswa passing many different kinds and shapes of lakes with beautiful views. When we got to Pequot Lakes, the view
This trail, only a third of a mile, would not be a difficult hike for someone who had not just hiked almost four miles in the midday sun, but I could feel the fatigue as I hopped from rock to rock. However the view at the top was well worth

Compared to the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, the Appalachian Trail is widely regarded as the safest options of the three. This is because the Appalachian Trail is accepted by the communities it runs through. It is common to see members of the community be at the trailhead and offer assistance to those that are passing by. Also, the spans between communities are relatively small. On the Appalachian Trail Conservancy website, they state that do not need to carry more than 6 days worth of food maximum because of how close resupply points
When the Trans-Canada Trail was first developed, some first-time users were unprepared for it's challenges. Many areas are quite remote, so you should take
Some of the favorites for visitors include the Rim Trail and the Loop Trail. These trails encompass eight miles in length. During the trail, you can see views of Lake Powell, the Tower Butte, Antelope Canyon, the Glen Canyon Dam and Navajo Mountain. Make sure to bring your camera because you will want to remember these vistas for a lifetime. 10.
The Appalachian Trail is America's first Scenic Trail. It stretches from Katahdin Mountain in Maine to Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. This stretch of the trail includes some of the most difficult sections. Some trails are suitable for day hikes or short backpacking hikes.
Taking on a journey stretching well over 2,100 miles, covering fourteen states (from Maine to Georgia) by foot is no simple stroll where at the end of the day a comfortable bed and hot meal would await you. Instead, hiking the Appalachian Trail can be an endless battle with all the elements of mother nature: whereas in one state spring would have sprung already with wildflowers dressing the forest floors and insects buzzing through crisp air, on other parts of the trail it [the weather conditions] would be smothering heat, but meanwhile a few states north the rain would fall endlessly with gusts of cold wind, and snow would blanket the pathways of the trail and more than likely blizzards
The kmz map that I selected and find interesting entails the Appalachian Trail. This 2,190 miles journey travels through 14 states and attracts over 3 million visors each year. The beautiful mountainous adventure coincides with this week’s study of rock formation and a visual experience of land formation. I selected this region of the United States because I wanted to learn more about the trail and my future home state. My husband and I are planning on moving to Kentucky or Tennessee in 3 years and I’ve set a goal of walking part of the Appalachian Trail. I have a bad back and do not think I could manage the entire journey. I have lived in Virginia (while in the Navy) and have traveled all around Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia immensely.
the woods. At first it might not look like a good trail because the very beginning is not good.
The book “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson was a great read and very much exhibited the division between Americans and the natural world people tend to forget. It takes true dedication to walk through the Appalachian Trail. With sweat, time, and dedication it will pay
Transcendentalism is the idea that our spirits have deep connection with nature. Our ideas go beyond the natural world as we see it. Transcendentalism is a philosophy about self reliance, and individuality. We are more into nature and our mood is more pictured by Nature. When I think about failures and achievements I can always base it off transcendentalism.
Many of the figures of transcendentalism embraced the liberating qualities of individualism, making man free of the social, religious, and family restrictions of the past. Ralph Waldo Emerson, for example, rejected the decaying Puritan lifestyle of New England's past in favor of the Romantic world of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. For transcendentalists, a higher reality lay behind that afforded by the senses; a reality in which people could understand truth and eternity. To reach that world, humankind had to transcend the concrete world of the senses in favor of a more mystical definition of nature. To escape the modern world, transcendentalists fled into model Utopian communities.
Transcendentalism was an American literature movement urging people to look past everyday material life, and reach into their souls to find inner peace with themselves. Transcendentalism originally came from Kantian idealism. This idealism was credited by Immanuel Kant.
One man named Henry David Thoreau realized that being around people changes the way he behaves. In the middle of his life, he decided to stop everything he was doing and go out into nature for two years without any company. He documented his time in the forest in a work entitled Walden. During the conclusion of Walden, Thoreau explained this idea of finding one’s self and reaching one’s full potential. He compared this process to a bug who should have been dead a long time ago.
