Solar energy is defined as “power obtained by harnessing the energy of the sun’s rays.” (Dictionary.com, 2017) People have been using the sun for thousands of years for warmth, growing food, drying out food and clothes. Using solar energy in public schools could benefit all of the society with the creation of more clean energy and be able to stretch the use of nonrenewable resources. According to National Center for Education Statistics, there are 98,328 public schools in America. (Statistics, 2016) This number is rising increasingly which means we need more energy to keep these schools heated in the winters, cooled in the summers, and lit with lights. In the united states, 68% of the electricity used is from nonrenewable fossil fuels. When converting these fossil fuels to electricity they produce harmful substances including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. These substances are hazardous to human health, causes acid rain, and contributes to global warming. If the public schools in America transitioned to the solar energy it would lower the cost of utility bills on the school districts, it would increase the educational opportunities for the students, and it would positively impact the preservation of Earth. The main reason to switch public schools to solar energy is for the long-term financial benefits. It takes a lot of money to run a school district, especially in larger cities. In the year 2013-14 $1.3 billion was spent on
There are many advantages of solar power, one is we can rely on the sun showing up day and out which make it the most renewable source. Solar does not require sound, has very little maintenance and has no pollution effect on the earth. A disadvantage, as I previously mentioned, is the upfront cost to get the solar panels. Although they are said to be easy to install there could be an additional cost of getting the roof of your house ready and able to have solar panels install.
Seeing that Prairie View A&M University is a small campus consisting of about 9,000 students you would believe that they are doing a lot of eco-friendly things, such as using energy efficient bulbs and having recycle bins placed near every trash can on campus. Becoming more sustainable can go way beyond the little things; the campus can install solar panels or installing a green roof. Solar panles use light energy from the sun to generate electricity through this effect called the photovoltaic effect. Installing solar panels can be very expensive, but in the end it’ll save the college a lot of money on their electricity bills. Solar energy is non polluting and it is emission free while generating electricty. Another advantage of using solar
The dreams I have are something that I intend to reach. I would like to become an engineer to contribute to the world and to make a faster technological development. Math Corps is a program that I am very interested in as it can help leading me to be the engineer that I desire. The world is growing every day and I need to keep growing. I want to be a part of that growth and I want to make a positive difference in our society. A major key and role of engineering is math and without it, engineering would just be a concept to our human minds. I am in three international Baccalaureate classes and I plan to take more classes to better my future. I believe that I am well prepared for Math Corps and I will be a wonderful student to work with. Math
If the country stopped relying on fossil fuels and switch to solar energy it would be beneficial for multiple reasons; it would save society billions or trillions of dollars. Even long before society’s very existence is threatened by global warming, global warming is projected to cost society trillions of dollars if pollution continues. Fighting global warming with solar power will likely save society billions or even trillions of dollars. Solar power also provides free energy. No one can buy the sun or turn sunlight into a monopoly or go and buy the sun. Combined with the simplicity of solar panels, this also provides a solar power advantage of energy security, something the United States military has pointed out for years. A major reason why is that a lot of money is being put into the development and installation of solar panel systems. Solar power can also create jobs. As a huge source of energy, solar power is a job-creating powerhouse. Money invested in solar power creates three times more jobs than money invested in natural gas and other nonrenewable resources, not to mention
One of the key attractions to solar energy is how fits in with a growing drift to act more environmentally sensibility. It is achieves by three ways. For one it’s renewable, unlike other popular forms of energy such as fossil fuel, solar energy won’t run out. Second, due to being renewable it’s also maintainable. As other forms of energy stop to exist, they can pose jeopardy for future generations that might depend on those types of power. Finally, solar energy doesn’t generate the problems of pollution that coal and fossil fuel energy do. Savings on monthly energy bills with financing assisting to offset the original cost, the monthly savings from having solar power can actually add up over time. This is gathering made possible because you can ‘sell back’ extra solar energy that decreases your total power bill, in some cases down to $0. Availability many areas around the country are major places for harnessing the sun’s energy. This becomes more deceptive as new technologies advance the productivity of collecting solar power. Maintenance is very simple, because solar panels don’t involve any moving parts; they are moderately maintenance-free. All that’s usually needed is a simple cleaning a few times a year. Cost Perhaps the biggest element that stops people from converting to solar power is the large upfront cost associated with it. While it’s true that installing a solar power system in your home isn’t cheap, Existence solar panel can help comfort the initial cost
I personally have seen house with solar panels and also you see them on calculators. They may be expensive but I believe they are worth it for the environment. In fact according to Eric McLamb, “Solar energy is having the most immediate impact on home energy needs, and is expected to provide the energy needs for one billion people by the middle of this century”. Which can in the nearer future increase the way people get they’re energy thus decrease the consumption of oil. According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, “Solar power could provide energy for more than one billion people by 2020 and 26 percent of global energy needs by
If I were to build a new middle school in San Marcos, CA where I live, I would power and heat the building by clean energy such as solar and wind power. I prefer to use solar and wind energy because it is cleaner source of energy and is less costly than the current way of powering buildings which is by electricity.
First, Solar energy is such an environmentally friendly source of energy. Unlike Fossil fuels, it's a renewable. Typical electricity is generated from fossil fuel that will run out one day. Solar energy is a good substitute to replace fossil fuel as the key energy source reason because is solar power is renewable at completely no cost to provide energy infinitely. That’s why it is a great renewable energy source. Using solar powered energy, you will be replacing the power you are using, which discharges carbon gas emissions, with fresh, reusable solar power. You will, be decreasing your carbon footprint and the amount
In this modern fast paced world that we live in, there are many issues that are looked over, energy is one of these. As a world, we are dependant on dwindling fossil fuel supplies and take for granted electricity, oil, and gas. There are four completely renewable sources of energy around us that should be used and developed, they are: wind, growing plants, flowing water, and the sun. These sources of energy are the ones we should be tapping, because they are reliable and renewable. Harnessing the suns energy is the most certain and ultimate energy source. Looking at a brief history and some facts about solar energy, a glimpse of the future can be seen, a future not dependant on
Solar power is nothing completely new; it has been used for years to power small devices from calculators to watches, but what is new is its improved efficiency. Solar panels can be used to collect energy from the sun and now are being used on a much larger scale. Homeowners and business can use energy generated from the panels to power their homes and offices and have it purchased by energy suppliers. Solar power is proving to be an economical energy source available to the public that is consumer friendly.
and heat the school is solar power. Why I think I should use this is because the solar energy is renewable and clean. Solar energy is silent, so it will not disrupt students from learning at school. And the solar panels can fit on the roofs of the school. What also makes it a good option is that solar energy can reduce the energy bill. I will get this type of energy by paying the amount to a company that will install these panels to the roof of the school. Why we should use the alternative energy today instead of traditional sources is because that energy will run out one day, but the alternative sources like solar energy is that the sun will last
In a world in which patriarchy had¬—and still does have—firm roots, Henrik Ibsen released his play A Doll’s House. Received with scathing criticism, the play challenged societal norms and promoted feminism and equal rights. Henrik Ibsen uses Nora and Torvald Helmer as synecdoches for greater social ideologies, and through the conflict between them, he establishes a social critique of patriarchy and promotes equality.
Solar energy is an eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels. Our planet has been experiencing an average increase in global temperatures. Slowly but surely our planet is deteriorating, unless we change our form of energy into a greener alternative. Deterioration of our planet may occur at a faster rate. The depletion of fossil fuels is detrimental to our environment. By substituting fossil fuels with the solar energy, our planet will benefit. These benefits include: reduced climate change, beneficial economic opportunities on both a large scale benefitting our government and on a smaller scale helping individuals decrease their energy bills, and solar energy is renewable and sustainable.
If we choose to switch to solar energy in future, it will greatly save our environment because, it does not pollute our air and it is reasonably efficient. It will help reduce global warming, and thus a future green environment with no pollution from fossil fuels, and other conventional sources of energy. To add on that, it will also help in conserving our remaining fossil fuels so that it may not run out in the coming 100-500 years, as it has been predicted.
Solar energy is the most plentiful and purist renewable energy source available. Because it is completely natural, it is considered to be a clean energy source. It does not disrupt the environment or threaten the Eco-systems the way oil and some other energy sources tend to. Nor does it cause greenhouse gases, air or water pollution. Solar energy is an immensely important aspect of life and has been since the beginning of time. Increasingly, we are learning how to harness this important resource and use it to replace traditional energy sources. Modern technology can utilize this energy in a variety of ways, such as; generating electricity, providing light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, industrial, or commercial use. One day solar energy may well become our primary form of energy. This would lead to a clean environment, less money spent on utilities, and a healthier world. It is highly important because it has the potential to allow technology and nature to co-exist peacefully.
