The Battle of Gettysburg: Why was It a Turning Point? How would the war have turned out if not for the Battle of Gettysburg? The battle of Gettysburg happened july 1st , 1863 through july 3. If either sides would have chosen a different route things may have been different. Also, it wouldn't be called the Battle of Gettysburg considering it could have not been there if there was a different route.
