When America was first starting off, there were some tensions within the colonies. Some of the tensions led to rebellions. Two rebellions that come to mind, is the Bacon rebellion and the Pueblo rebellion. They both showed how America had tensions with different groups of people. They both transpired because the lower class was being oppressed. Even though they were different they both pointed out the tensions in the colonies. Bacon rebellions occurred in 1676 and ended in 1677. It took place in Virginia and the cause for this rebellion is because governor William Berkeley, refused to retaliate against native Americans who had attacked settlements on the frontier lines. Also he refused to move into the Indians territory when many pushed

After sometime he started having problems with his plantation because some native americans was angry and were very aggressive towards colonist, attacking random people, livestock and stealing food and supplies and from time to time killing settlers. By 1750, strains between Native Americans and colonists were still existing, leading to growing rebellious groups. In the backcountry, frontiersmen showed their frustration and opinions through bloody mutinies and rebellions. By joining together, they were able to make a point to their fellow peers and government officials. The March of Paxton Boys & Regulator Movement were both colonial uprisings, in an attempt to reform or dislodge the government and some of its officials. Contrariwise, Shay’s Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion were both protests against some form of the economy; yet all were very dangerous acts of violence in colonial America.
Historians tend to view events in a black or white approach. That kind of thinking would describe Nathaniel Bacon battling for liberty and against English oppression, as paving the way for the American Revolution. In reality, Bacon was an Indian-hating landowner who was part of the nobility, just not part of Gov. Berkeley’s in crowd although he was a relative of Berkeley.
There are many reasons why the American colonist decided to rebel. One cause is the British Parliament. They started The Stamp Act and The Sugar Act. They made and raised taxes on sugar and on every printed piece of paper such as stamps, licenses, newspapers and even playing cards. Another reason they rebelled is the French and Indian war. This war lasted from 1754 to 1763. Colonists were taxed to help pay for the troops fighting in the war.The taxes were often raised and colonists were angry because of this. The last reason of why the colonist rebelled is the Boston Massacre. The British were angered by the taxes from the government so they decided to protest and a battle broke out and several people were shot and killed.
“Bacon advocated immediate retaliation against the Potomack and Susquehannock tribes.” After rallying 300 for a troop, Bacon went to Berkeley to ask permission, but was quickly denied. The Govenor was not interested in protected his own people because he did not "want to loose valuable fur trade" with the Indians, which would hurt his personal finances. Despite the order not to down, Bacon decided to fight the Native Americans anyway. When the governor figured out what was happening, he created a team of three hundred militiamen to go and stop him. They soon found and captured Bacon, but soon released him. Battles continued both between Bacon and the Indians, as well as Berkeley and Bacon. In the end, Bacon's rebellion worked. Indian tribes west were pushed west and Berkeley's rule was overthrown. Even though much good came from his treason ways, the unfortunate is that he still rebelled against the government and direct

Slavery in America evolved from indentured servitude to a slavery system, consisted of kidnapped Africans, because of Bacon’s Rebellion. The Bacon’s Rebellion was started by Nathaniel Bacon in 1676 when white settlers desired to move west near the Appalachian Mountains, which was claimed by the Native Americans. With the desire to claim the land, they had a buildup of anger and altercations with the Native Americans who controlled the land by inhabiting it from coast to Appalachian Mountains. The House of Burgesses, or the government, tried to prevent conflict with the Native American people as best they could. However, Bacon still led white and African American men to the Native American land to claim it. He also had support from indentured servants who wanted rights such as voting and civics. Bacon’s men trudge through Jamestown and set it on fire. This represents that the people are rebelling against the government due to weak Indian policies. One of the many consequences rebels faced were executions from Sir William Berkeley, the governor of the colony, who was one of many that tried to prevent Nathaniel and his men. The following from virtualjamestown.org provides a list of those that were executed during Bacon’s Rebellion in Virginia. For example the list states, “One Johnson, a stirer up of the people to sedition but no fighter.” This means that this individual is getting the people riled up but when it comes to the act of fighting, he takes no part in it. Another example being, “One Hall, a Clerk of a County but more useful to the rebels than 40 army men--that dyed very penitent confessing his rebellion against his King and his ingratitude to me.” This execution was powerful because Sir William Berkeley eliminated an individual who directly told him that he did not respect him. This man’s execution was significant because he was an important member of society that equivalated to army men.
