The short film American Male shows how the male protagonist was being influenced by the society’s definition of a man. The film starts with the voice over, “Order beer. Not wine. And beef, not chicken. Never light beer, though. And tofu. Can’t get more gay than tofu,” which clearly reveals the strong image of the protagonist, and continues with how the man hangs out with his fraternity brothers, how he works out, and how he tries his best to look cool. In the hazing scene, one of the newbies accidentally bumped into him when he stood up which resulted to a humiliating scene for the protagonist. In the end, the protagonist started hitting his buttocks as hard and many times as he can and repeatedly screamed the word “faggot” until his fraternity brothers held him back and stop …show more content…

Steel Magnolias has been one of my families favorite films for many years; however, my intentions are to carefully critique the movie based on storytelling, acting, cinematography, edit, sound, style, and finally my interpretation of the film from a critics point of view.
Throughout this course, you have been compiling a blog and writing essays that analyze various elements of film such as theme, cinematic techniques, and genre. It is now time to combine those elements into a comprehensive analysis of one movie.
My initial reaction to the film was of utter shock at the brutally raw reality of the film. Upon reflection and commentary from other sources, the film’s simple yet vastly effective filmmaking techniques of developing the explicit and implicit meaning of the film. The explicit meaning, as

The range of movies Lionsgate has produced in the past has fascinated me. I believe film as a medium is one of the most powerful communication tools today, and I appreciate how Lionsgate produces successful movies ranging from a light-hearted romantic comedy like Juno to a grave subject matter like Precious.
This in-depth film analysis will identify and deliberate the heterogeneous elements of film and how they are utilised to develop and elaborate empathy for Katniss Everdeen, the main protagonist in Gary Ross’s critically acclaimed film The Hunger Games (2012). Modern day films generally use a variety of technical elements that are specifically designed to intrigue, captivate and convey emotion to the audience. These elements are known as camera, acting, mise-en-scene, editing, lighting and sound (C.A.M.E.L.S.). In particular, this film analysis will delineate how these components are employed in Ross’s The Hunger Games to develop empathy for Katniss Everdeen, during the scene of the annual ‘reaping’
Society faces an issue that is not usually addressed because it is seen as the norm in today’s American culture. It is the crisis of masculinity. The notion of how men should be portrayed is not usually identified as a problem; today’s society views men’s apathetic and exasperated exterior as the orthodox behavior of everyday life. Boys at a young age are taught by the popular culture that they need to be a “real man” - strong physically and emotionally. The mask many men put up is based on the extreme idea of masculinity that emphasizes toughness, physical strength and gaining the respect of others through violence or the explicit threat of it. This front is put up by men because they do not want to stray from what is accepted, for men who
Masculinity is described as possession of attributes considered typical of a man. Hegemonic masculinity is a form of masculine character with cultural idealism and emphasis that connects masculinity to competitiveness, toughness, and women subordination. Masculinity hegemonic is the enforcement of male dominion over a society. Masculine ideology dates back to the time of agrarian and the industrial revolution in Europe when survival compelled men to leave their homesteads to work in industries to earn a living for their families while women remained at home to take care of family affairs (Good and Sherrod 210). Women did not work in industries then because industrial labor was considered too physical beyond their capacity. This led to
The film that I chose to write about is a Paramount Pictures presentation titled Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and also featuring a handful of Saturday Night Live cast members, including Tina Fey the author of this picture. The reason behind choosing this film is because it has a unique style of introducing characters, transitioning between scenes, and various tools to help spice up the film. Being one of my personal favorites, Mean Girls is a comedy about a home schooled teenage girl who enters high school for the first time. She tries to figure herself out by where she can fit in and who she needs to become friends with.
The film ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’, director Ana Lily Amirpour, is a mixture of genres such as the Spaghetti Western, the teenage romance, and the vampire genre. The clash of genres in this film brings out the idea of hybridity and duality, with the sounds and cinematography creating a sense of ambiguity, or the ‘in-between’. The underlying mix brings out a sense of horror for the overall feel of the film as it leaves audiences with a sense of fear and realisation that not everything is as it seems.
