The Animals Rights Movement There are many different rights that animals have had taken away from them because of human behavior. For example, animals are being harmed around the world as a result of human product testing, many are being euthanized when there are too many in shelters and pounds, and countless are constantly being neglected or abused by owners. Luckily, there are movements and groups that are working to protect animals from these inhumane practices. Animals need the protection of humans to bring an end to testing on animals, abusive treatment and euthanasia. Importantly, several different groups have already worked to put laws in place which reduces the amount of animals being used for testing human products. In some cases, animals may be neglected when their owner moves to a different location, but leave their pets behind. Animals need to have water and food to survive, just like humans. Another form of animal neglect occurs when owners do not adequately provide food and/or water for their pets. . Animals abuse occurs when the pet is beaten by the owner repeatedly. There are laws at work to keep animals from being abused and neglected. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is an organization that has created laws protecting animals from abuse. One important example is the Cost of Animal Care laws, when an owner is found guilty of animal abuse or neglect, the owners must either relinquish the animal or pay for the animal’s care. Just the ASPCA alone has rescued or assisted 12,200 animals and had 4,600 adopted into a family that won’t hurt them. Even with that progress, over one million animals are still being abused or killed every year in the United States. Luckily, the ASPCA is an organization helping to fight for the freedom of abused and neglected
