The Cambridge Dictionaries Online (2011) defines racism as “the belief that people's qualities are influenced by their race and that the members of other races are not as good as the members of your own, or the resulting unfair treatment of members of other races.”

Meaning of Racism- Racism is the attitudes that people have distinctive appearance and behavior which indicates their cultures often involving thought that one’s own culture is better and has the right to control others.

Racism is very simple to take the color of the person or nationality or religion as justification to live his home higher than others in society. Throughout history, the whole world has witnessed racist aspects against its members and the most important facets of racism among them is color. In many countries, the dark skin suffered from injustice white skin.

Let’s start with the definition of racism. Racism refers to the belief that race is the primary determinant of human capacities, that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others, and/or that individuals should be treated differently based on their ascribed race.

Racism is the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. Racism in America started about the 15th century between the Americans and Africans, and it is seen in various cities today. This was due to the Atlantic Slave trade which was the transportation of enslaved Africans to the New World, America. As a result, the class discrimination perceived here is an ideal example of racism. Therefore, bigotry can comprise of a variety of problems, harsh consequences, and at the same time created evolutionary anti-racist organizations.

Racism is a socially constructed concept used by multiple groups of people and creates a hierarchy of sorts based purely on the color of a person’s skin or their cultural origins. It has been an idea that has existed since the beginnings of civilization. A more modern iteration of this concept was made prominent in the 16th century as European settlers began to explore different areas of the world, specifically areas in or around Africa. But slavery can be seen back in the 1500s all the way to 1880 and was most likely a leading example of what helped define racism up to the 20th century. In Ali Rattansi’s book, “Racism: A Very Short Introduction” , the author connects how slavery and race are closely tied together. European explorers would ignore the cultures the invaded in order to see these people as nothing more than native groups that were meant to be seen in a subservient role. Slavery would continue to grow across the Atlantic and seen as an institution that created large amounts of wealth for those who could reap the benefits from it. As long as money was being made, slavery persisted and was justified. Race and racism was conceived the way it was because the slave owning system was controlled by European colonizers.

Many argue that race is made up for solely the purpose of the benefit of others while others choose to ignore the fact that racism even exists using the fallacies of racism. Racism is discrimination directed towards someone of a different race, believing that one’s own race is superior. Most individuals would not consider themselves racist, however research supports that racism has been present throughout our nation since slavery was first introduced. Despite new learning and understanding, racism continues to be present in many forms today. People often think racism was only an issue at the time of slavery; however slavery was the start of racism, and since then, racism continues to be embedded into our nation’s core.

The slaves were seen as inferior people because they were a different race. An example of racism that is widely known is when the British settlers came over to America and forced the Native Americans to leave their land after they had helped the Spanish survive in the wilderness. The British and the Native Americans waged in a war over how the cruel the British were treating the Indians.

What is racism? By definition racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one 's own race is superior. This is a big issue in America today. Many Americans believe that racism is over in this country because it had gone through a civil rights revolution but those people are more than wrong.

Racism is the belief that one race is superior compared to another. Racism involves prejudice, hatred, and discrimination towards a difference race because they believe their race is superior and that their race possesses exceptional characteristics.

According to Mariam Webster, the definition of racism is, “a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.” However, to me racism is more than what is defined above. In my point of view, I consider racism not as only a belief, but also a disease that cause a chronic stress that leads to premature birth for African American women.
