The American Red Cross is a non for profit, congressionally chartered organization. Its primary focus is to give help anywhere that is needed both here and abroad. The American Red Cross uses its resources, time, and money to help five major areas, which are aiding people affected by disasters in American, supporting members in the military and their families, collecting blood for process and distribution, health and safety education and training, and international relief and development (American Red Cross). The Mission Statement of the American Red Cross is “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors” (American Red Cross). The American Red Cross was initially founded in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1881 by a woman named Clara Barton and many of her colleagues. She went on to be in charge for the next twenty-three years. The American Red Cross is now governed by a Board of Governors which is in control of all operations within the American Red Cross. The leadership positions include the Chairman of the board and the president and Chief executive Officer. The Chairmen leads the Board of Governors in making the decisions and the President and CEO execute those decisions. Clara Barton first petitioned for an American Red Cross to be crated after her visit to Europe when she heard of the Swiss-inspired global Red Cross (American Red Cross). Before World War
