The American Dream is originally thought to be about how hard work can lead one person from poorness to richness with the right amount of effort put in. The American Dream can have different meaning to different people but at the end they are all trying to achieve a goal. The American Dream usually requires hard work and dedication. But cheating your way to success can change a person. An example of a distorted American Dream would be F. Scott Fitzgerald 's The Great Gatsby.
The Great Gatsby talks about a man named Jay Gatsby and what good and bad comes out of trying and achieving the American dream. And how it 's no longer about building a life but it 's just about getting richer. Gatsby represent the Dream and also the corrupted side of the dream. Gatsby sees wealth as a solution to all his problems. And how he reinvents himself so much that he become disconnected from what he actually came from. But his corrupted dream of money is motivated by his love for a girl named Daisy. Also showing what money can change and make a person do.

Throughout the book Gatsby continually throws outlandish parties where scores of people, whether invited or not, attend and revel in his hospitality; he later reveals his purpose in throwing these overly grandiose festivals, when Nick and he are talking after a party which Daisy has just attended. “'She didn't like it {Gatsby} said immediately...She didn't have a good time'” (Fitzgerald 116) fully expresses that his entire life at West Egg has been spent in pursuit of a woman who could never possibly fulfill his dream. The American dream is an ideology, a vision that’s form varies from individual to individual, based upon one’s own experiences. Although the one thing that remains constant in every single definition is that this ideology, just as the name states, is only a dream. It is meant to merely drive people to unlock their hidden potential and become their best self, for the sole purpose of living one’s out one’s own definition of success. In “The Great Gatsby” by F. Ultimately, F.Scott Fitzgerald uses light and dark imagery and diction of defeat in order to suggest that Gatsby’s obsession with the past has built his dream, while conveying Gatsby’s battle with his past is what made him lose.
Everyone has an ideal vision of what he or she wants out of life. In a perfect world, everyone would die happy having achieved every goal ever set. A perfect world does not exist. Fitzgerald knows this, and he chronicles the life of Gatsby. Gatsby deeply desires to live out the “American dream.” He wants fame, riches, parties, mansions, but most of all love. Gatsby succeeds in every area except the most important. Gatsby still feels a desire to fulfill his final dream of finding a true love. Not willing to settle for an arbitrary love, Gatsby sets his sights on a young woman named Daisy. The problem is that Gatsby can never have Daisy because she is already in a relationship with another man. Gatsby, still wanting Daisy’s love but
