When animals are experimented upon the effects of captivity and lab conditions can be profound on animals. The subjects are often confined to areas that are smaller than what they would be used to if left in their natural habitat. This doesn’t allow them to travel as they would naturally in the wild. These animals don’t get the exercise that they need. Many animals are also taken away from their mothers a lot earlier than they would naturally leave their moms in the wild. When animals are taken earlier from their mothers than they should be, it often results in destructive behaviors and adverse effects on the brains of the animals. Lab mice are usually taken away from their mothers early. These mice become very aggressive as they grow up and
The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non-social species including felids (Hosey 2000).
Although many people agree with testing products on animals, they ask ‘Who else are we going to test our products on?’ Nobody! Don’t add harsh chemicals in the products and then the animals and humans are both healthier. Beyond millions of animals that die and are captured every year just from animal testing alone. Treating an animal cruelty is never okay, especially when they’re torturing the animals with harsh chemicals due to testing. If people would stand up and try to protect animals we’d be saving certain animals from becoming extinct and we’d also save a ton of money.
Every animal has needs. These needs, such as the biological needs to eat and sleep, as well as others, like the need to think, explore, and freely express normal behaviors, drive everything that we, as animals, do. Our needs likewise contribute to our health; they aim to benefit our well-being in some way, leading us to have a more positive welfare, which allows us to adapt to changing situations and stress less. Thus, in the interest of captive animals, an essential task for zoos and aquaria is to meet all of their animals needs, so those animals can adapt, stress less, and have a more positive welfare. However, many zoos and aquaria are now realizing that this task is harder than it seems, as while they must meet animals needs for good physical health, they also must meet animals psychological, social, and cognitive needs.
An increasing number of activists believe that animals have rights. However, this idea is somewhat controversial because animal activists look down upon the poor treatment of animals. They have a fear that animal testing is causing abuse and suffering to the helpless animals. Animal testing is a fairly serious matter because of all of the malfunctions and harm that leads to animal suffrage. The types of animals being used, such as rats, mice, rabbits, and chips are selected specifically for the test that is being performed. The outcomes of the test, depends on which animal is being tested and what it is being examined for. Common tests being used on animals include, medicine for human diseases, cosmetic products and their reactions, and students in training utilizing animals in educational laboratories.
Do you think that animals should be kept in captivity there whole life's. When people put animals in zoos or captivity that keeps the animal safe. Although keeping animals in captivity is bad because they don’t get to be themselves, they should keep animals in zoos or captivity because it helps them not go extinct, it brings happiness to families that go the zoo, and zoos bring in enough money to build better animal enclosures.
For several generations, animals have been entertaining humans. From sitting in zoo exhibits to being paraded around in flashy circuses, animals, especially exotic ones, have drawn large audiences. A close look at a ferocious lion or a dancing elephant wearing a headdress is often what captivates people, since these spectacles are often unusual and fascinating. However, for lions to be viewed up close and elephants to dance, they must be held captive and trained for desired behavior. This captivity and training raises a question: is captivity detrimental to global animal ecology and health? Many animal activists claim that captivity is abusive, but animal entertainment organizations, such as zoos, circuses, and animal theme parks, promote environmental health through ecological education of children and adults as well as funding research for conservation.
I believe that new medical procedures and breakthroughs should not be tried on animals first. I believe this because of animal cruelty laws, and because you could find ways around the issue. Also you should not have to do much biological testing in the first place, simply because of what type of research you are doing, more research may be required by different studies, and there are better alternatives. Some empathy is also required to see this point, but it also would be rather horrible to be locked in a cage, being injected with certain things, that may cause a slow, painful death, from cancer or another disease. Animal test subjects are also never perfect, they have many genetic differences, and are less advanced organically, so there is
These animals spend most, if not all, of their lives trapped in cages. Many facilities don’t give the animals the opportunity to experience sunlight. The only light they are ever exposed to is the light on a fluorescent bulb. The stressful environment of a lab has many negative effects on the animals. According to Dr. Chaitanya, in an article titled “Animal Testing: Inhumane AND Inaccurate”, “This stress leads many animals to self-harm and displaying stereotypical behaviors, including spinning endlessly in their cages or constantly pacing” (Chaitanya). Not only are the animals forced to undergo different tests and treatments, they are also confine in cages and not allowed to experience any natural elements. Some animals live their entire lives being tortured through experiments, and they are not even given the chance to experience sunlight. The conditions in which the animals are forced to live can cause them harm. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, in an article titled, “Wining the Case Against Animal Cruelty”, “In 2012, monkeys were boiled alive when sent through scalding-hot mechanical cage washers, while others overheated to death in poor laboratory conditions” (Animal Legal Defense Fund). These monkey’s not only suffered through experiments, they also had to suffer through deplorable living conditions. People who are in
They suffer severe stress because of their day-to-day laboratory life. They spend their whole lives in sterile cages, unable to express any natural behaviors. A majority never experience natural things such as sunlight or fresh air but, only the bars of their cage. The few facilities that do provide some outside caging usually only give them limited amounts of time outside. Standard lab conditions are small, crowded cages, loud noises, and lack of enrichment which are all already known to create stress in animals (23).
Pain, terror, anxiety, forlornness. Abruptly, this is what more than 100 million animals feel right now. Animals were not born to test shampoos, eye shadow, purposely to be given tumors, cancer, and absolutely not to be cut open and die a cruel, violent, agonizing death. What was just read is what is happening not just in the US or North America, but all over the world. Animal experimentation needs to be abolished for most test fail in humans, the test are inhumane, and there are other options.
Mr. Clean, Ivory, OFF, Herbal Essences, BIC, really? These are some of the products used to test on animals, but for what reason. By using these products, you are a suspect to animal testing/ cruelty. Animals should have as much rights as humans, because no animal should have to go through so much pain for what reason, does society really need new cleaning products and chemically made soap? But what society needs to know behind closed doors is that there are about 115 million animals that suffer and are killed each year. Also, animals endure chemicals being dripped into their eyes, injected into their bodies, forced up their nostrils or forced down their throats. (With no pain killers during the process). They are addicted to drugs, forced
Man-made environments or animals are not right and unsuitable for their living. These animals are subjected to an unnatural environment. This causes confusion which then leads to hostility potentially sending an animal to its death when they try to rebel. Then they are mistreated for scientific purposes or beaten to fulfill a purpose. All these horrific things can happen to an animal that is forcibly taken from its home and sent into man-made environments.
Also, There have been numerous events where animals held captive will injure or even kill one of their trainers. One specific example is with Dawn Brancheau, a former SeaWorld trainer. According to an expert in Zoology, Dawn was dragged underwater by an orca, just a few months after a death of another Orca trainer (Palmer). This displays the harm that an animal can pose to a human at any given time, therefore their need to be released from captivity. While the argument states that animals in captivity don’t have rights since their sole purpose is to provide benefits to humans, evidence supports that they may not be posing a benefit, but rather harm, and that these animals undergo intense stress and psychological damage.
“In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them-they are confined to barren cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized” (Animal Experiments: Overview). The animals have their entire natural habitat taken away from them while being tested. Without their normal surroundings, it is hard for them to behave and live like their species. If a person were to have all of their possessions taken away, they would be inferior and victimized. The animals feel this way. Scientists take the animals for granted and forget that the animals have feelings too. The habitats that the facilities provide for the animals could be viewed as poorly as the quality of treatment for animals
All throughout the years, animal testing has been a very controversial debate, whether or not it is humane or completely cruel to the animals involved. This kind of testing on animals does not always leave the animal alive, which leaves people furious as to why scientists even test on them. New drugs most of the time are tested on animals first, but the companies that use animal testing a lot are cosmetic ones. . Animals are used mainly because their life is deemed less important than a human’s life, but how is that even true. There are many different viewpoints on why some people think that animal testing is resourceful and helpful towards humans, but there are always two sides of every story. It seems more useful to test on animals for scientific means, but not something that does not deal with science, such as cosmetics. Although some scientists and animal testing supporters believe that the positives of testing outweighs the negatives of using animals for scientific research, I argue that it should be banned for the overall cruelty
