Chelsea,
I enjoyed reading your post. The ASCA and AMHCA has some similarities. In the AMHCA Code of Ethics (2015), that counselors should look at his or her own beliefs and values and understand that their views can impact the client. AMHCA also has their own peer review journal that provides information about research, and theories that relates to mental health counseling. I agree that advocacy is important because it brings awareness and it also important because you have someone that will speak up for the people that do not have a voice for example, children may not voice how they are feeling or believe that if they do voice their feelings, someone will not believe
I thought your discussion post this week was great. After looking at exercise 4-4 I completely agree with you that using PRN nurses and working with float nurses is such a smart idea. Decreasing discharge teaching time like the manager wants to do on the unit is unsafe and unethical to patients. The nurses on the unit are doing their part by providing excellent patient care, but reducing education can lead to dangerous outcomes for patients in the long run. Provision 3 of the ANA Code of Ethics (ANA, 2015) states that nurses should promote, advocate, and protect the rights, health, and safety of every patient. By implementing your proposed thoughts I really do believe wait times and patient satisfaction could certainly improve. There are always
The main points of provision five of the ANA code of ethics are as follows: section 5.1, which is moral self-respect, suggests that nurses must care for themselves as much as they care for their patients. Nurses must do their best to maintain professional respect to themselves in regards of their competence and moral character. Section 5.2, which is professional growth and maintenance of competence, suggests that nurses must continue to self and peer evaluate themselves throughout their careers. Nurses must continue to learn current, up to date nursing practices through self, peer, and higher education. Section 5.3, which is wholeness of character, suggests that nurses must develop and take into consideration their own
The ACA and NAADAC code of ethics will help the counselor with decision making. When the counselor is not sure how to act or say about an issue, it is important that she goes back and review the ACA and NAADAC code of ethics to make sure she is not being biased or discriminating a client in her practice. ACA and NAADAC is a guide that will help the counselor to reference.
There are multiple precautions and/or practices that private practitioners can adopt that will minimize their liability, while also promoting the best possible practice and therapy for their clients. Following the Code of Ethics, while maintaining current educational and supervision practices also help.
The American Sociological Association Code of Ethics was set as a guideline for sociologists. The code includes an Introduction, five principles, and the Specific Ethnical Standards. This code is not only used in the United States, but worldwide. They are standardized internationally to guarantee that the discipline on the whole remains as scientifically honest as possible. More importantly this code exists to prevent harm or abuse to the research subject by the scholar.
Nurses are faced with making difficult decisions for theirs patients on a daily occurrence. “The STOP model helps decision makers by reminding them to consider all elements and make a best rational choice to fit the situation.” (Godfrey & Crigger, 2012, p. 35) When faced with a daunting choice a nurse can use the STOP Model to help them decipher what exactly to do without becoming overwhelmed. Looking at the case study presented to us this is how I would analyze the situation using the STOP Model:
The question of ethics is naturally raised when referring to the legalization of medical marijuana. Ethics can be defined as a value system that defines right from wrong, coming from a higher standard than the law. While Public Relations (PR) ethics consists of values such as “honesty, openness, loyalty, fair-mindedness, respect, integrity, and forthright communication,” (Bowen 2007) it often is thought to consist of lies and spin doctoring in order to protect the reputation of a person, group or organisation. While some critics may argue that this is true, ethics in PR allows PR and communications managers to determine between good and bad behaviour. (Bowen 2007)
Very informative post on Ebola. You stated “As a professional, the nurses is expected to reflect and move beyond feelings to provide the same level of care to every patient, regardless of diagnosis, skin color, ethnic origin, or economic status” (Hinkle & Cheever, 2014, pg. 30). I agree with your ANA code of Ethics because nurse are morally obligated to provide care to patients with EVD. "Nurse have a professional obligation to educate themselves about the proper nursing care of patients with EVD and the recommendations for PPE type and is articulated in provision 5 of ANA code of Ethics."(ANA, 2015). What do you think about these patients being treat in ICU verse on a Med Surge floor?
Business associations regularly build up a few unique strategies, standards and rules for representing their operations. While home-based or sole proprietorship organizations more often than not require less strategies, bigger associations utilize these rules to oversee worker conduct. A code of morals is a typical hierarchical approach utilized as a part of business associations. The code of morals strategy typically sets the base gauges for entrepreneurs, chiefs and representatives to take after while finishing different business capacities.
After reading the ANA code of ethics there are various aspects that can relate back to nursing informatics. However, the main sections I would like to discuss would be; provisions two, three, seven, eight and nine.
At this point as a student, I believe I have a firm grasp on the foundations of the ACA Code of Ethics. The ACA Code of Ethics is organized for several valuable reasons. The ACA Code of Ethics serves the community, the members of the ACA, and helping professionals (CASEBOOK). The ACA Code of Ethics was created to protect and promote the wellness of the community, educate members of the helping profession and community, improve the practice of helping professionals, and protect the clients and the practitioners (LEGAL). The approach the ACA Code of Ethics uses is holding health professionals accountable for their clients. This allows clients to be protected and to be counseled in a safe and non-judgmental environment. There are five core values the ACA holds for all helping professionals. The first is enhancing growth and development for clients. The second core value is brining awareness to diversity and multicultural views. Third value is to promote social justice. Fourth value is building integrity and trust with the client. The last core value is practicing in an ethical manner (CASEBOOK). I understand the reason behind the ACA Code of Ethics, however I hope this class will teach me more about the individual codes.
Organization Codes of Ethics are attempts by an organization to generally codify the professional ethics of its members. Based upon this principle I have several questions for you to ponder 1) On this issue we addressing this week how is the code of ethics the same and different from yours on this issue. Please elaborate? The ANA Code of Ethics are principles that guide us as nurses in decision making.
Social worker professions are guided by the professional body of Australia Association of Social Work code of ethics and practice standards (AASW, 2010). Thus, social workers should first have an understanding of their ethical code for practice when entering into a organisation. As the AASW (2010) states “social worker will uphold the ethical values and responsibilities of this code, even though employers’ policies or official may not be compatible with its provisions (AASW, 2010, p.33). Social worker should analysis organisation policies and procedures as these are the rules and responsibilities which the workers must compile too (McDonald, Craik, Hawkins & William, 2012) In addition, a social worker should must make sure the policy and polices compatible with the AASW code of ethics, as previous stated
Ethics also plays a huge part in making a decision that yields a more positive outcome. Ethical Codes provides a framework and guidance for maintaining obligations to different stakeholders (Follari, 81).NAEYC and NEA both created a code of ethics. The national education association (NEA) code of ethics has two main principles: commitment to the student and commitment to the profession. NAEYC also developed a code of ethics with the intent to “give practitioners a research-based framework for making sound decisions in their work, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas” (Follari , 72). NAEYC code set a framework of professional responsibilities in four sections that address professional relationships that include: children, families, colleagues, and community and society; and in which each section is divided into ideal and principles. (NAECY 2011, pg 2)
From my own personal worldview, when I read this prompt, my first question was, “what are the clients’ presenting concerns?” Certainly, there are some pieces of information regarding employment, graduation rates, and access to the outside world; however, the thought that kept coming to my mind were related to cultural and environmental contexts of happiness and satisfaction. The ACA Code of Ethics (2014) stated, regarding research and publication, that, “counselors minimize bias and respect diversity in designing and implementing research,” (p. 15). There may be the possibility that our Western, standardized concepts of education and notions of “earning a living” are not seen the same way on this island. While it is an island that is a part of a State within the United States of America, it contains a variety of ethnic populations, including indigenous to the region, that may have very different values and belief systems. Also, individuals may not necessarily be upset about a lack of exposure to the outside world. They may embrace it, and see anything different
