In 1997, Texas legislature passed a law that all high school seniors were to be accepted to the University of Texas if they finish in the top ten percent of their class. The University of Texas followed this law but found that their student body was becoming less and diverse. Universities believe that having a diverse student is an important part of learning.

After reading the book and drawing lessons from the past, I have learned that if I want to be successful, I must have the clear goals which can keep myself motivated constantly and moving forward towards the attainment of my objects. Therefore, I set the short-term goals for studying in Seneca. I hope I can participate in co-op to have more work experience after the third semester. After graduating from ACF program, I hope I can directly enter the sixth semester of IAF program and prepare for the certificate about accounting. Since IAF program requires a minimum GPA 3.0 and a minimum Grade of B for several courses, I need to get at least Grade of B+ (75%) for all the courses. To achieve my goals, I must “work much, much harder” (Gladwell 39). I will preview the textbooks, highlight the important parts or the parts that I have questions and seek help from my professors. Following my high school graduation I plan to study accounting and criminal justice. After looking at many colleges that aren't too far from home, I found that the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University offer good programs for both of these studies. Although I haven't made a final decision on which university I will attend, I know that they both offer adequate academic and extracurricular opportunities.
