This video was interesting and unique in its own way; I felt as if in a way this video looked like an “American spin off of a terrorist video.” This video can possibly instill fear into the drug dealers, but it also can allow them to prepare themselves more and switch up their tactics, because they know that law enforcement agents are trying to catch them. This video also possible can place certain people at risk due to the fact that the sheriff did inform them that they had undercover agents buying drugs off of them. Law enforcement officers are suppose to enact community policing and be community oriented, this video shows that they are trying to handle the heroine problem in their community. However, the approach that he took to get his
Ms. Joan Keenan visited the Middle School to share her work with the students. Ms. Keenan has done extensive interviews with local veterans about their experiences. In 2008, she began recording the stories of Virgin Islands World War II veterans and with the help of a volunteer crew, produced the hour-long Telly Award winning documentary: Proudly We Served: Virgin Islands Veterans of World War II. This video documents the veterans’ experiences with racial segregation in the United States and the armed services. It explores their contributions to the war effort and the effects it had on their lives.
In the Texas Death Row YouTube video, three men were filmed through their journey living on death row, which include: Will Earl Pondexter Jr., Johnny Raw Johnson, and David Martinez.
The experiences that you face not only shape you for the time being but for the rest of your life. In chapter 8 “April 1996, Memphis, Tennessee” in the book The Terrorist’s Son by Zak Ebrahim with Jeff Giles, published in 2014 by TED books, Ebrahim talks a lot about his choice of not following the path that was expected of him. He chose to be a better person than what his father was. He uses his experiences, location, and details to show the audience an inside view of his world.
Caleb Carr is stressing that terrorism is never the answer throughout this chapter and I presume, the rest of the book. This is clearly shown in him saying "for just as meeting the tactics of terror in kind will only perpetuate the cycle of terrorist violence.." As for whether or not the affect of Roman warfare can be applied to today's governments in training people that are not of their own, it can be. Carr begins to explain this when he says "There is an irony concerning most of those rebel leaders that also holds enormous implications for our present experience..." (p. 37).
In Jean Kilbourne’s video, Killing Us Softly 4, Jean expresses how advertisements have been portraying women as a sex symbol or even as just a typical housewife. She talks about how the advertisements have sold various products by not necessarily selling the product itself, but by using women or men to sell the product for them. Ad agencies have used sex and body image to create a type of selling factor for their product. These selling strategies have shaped the way society views women and how women are treated (Killing Us Softly). When looking at two advertisements for Newport Cigarettes in both Sports Illustrated and Star magazine, we see a variety of differences. The Sports Illustrated issue is from October 26th, 2015 and the Star issue
As we live is this world we are faced with all types of diversities. However the main diversity that the world has been facing is terrorism. Within the last decade, terrorism has hit the United States hard. Before the last ten years, The United States have seen signs and acts of terrorism. Before September 11, The United States law enforcements and security forces where not on the same sheet of music of getting information or sharing
This video depicts several things. First of all it shows exactly how outnumbered we are within our correctional facilities. Even before the overcrowding and high incarceration rates, correctional officers are and will always be outnumbered. Any given day, any given inmate may try and attack you or someone else. We put some of the most violent of offenders in isolated environments, away from privacy and things they want or need, emotions and tempers will flair.
Direction) goal was trying to rehabilitate rather than incarcerate low level drug dealers in an attempt to keep them from a life of crime and or incarceration. The video was based on drug dealing, on the street level and was in North Charleston, South Carolina. Under the guidance of two officers Charity Prosser and Jamel Foster. When law enforcement in North Charleston did a drug raid in January 2011, eight identified dealers were purposely not arrested. The eight was selected because they were young, low-level and not violent. They were offered a deal. If they agreed to enter a program of education and work at a legal job, they wouldn’t face charges. The program lasted a year with the eight African American males with Prosser and Foster at their side for guidance. They helped them get jobs from part-time jobs to part-time jobs, and even took them back and forth to work. Also, they worked with them as they studied for their high school diplomas. At first not all of them wanted to do the program because of they were
Unlike the movies, where the cops and the robbers have gun fights and violent encounters, and it seems that the same officer has several within the same day. It is unnatural for a human being to intentional harm another human being, that is why society is so shocked when they see a violent encounter between two human beings on the news. Furthermore, when that encounter is an law enforcement officer and a citizen, the shock value is multiplied by an x value. However, there are several reasons why these videos are so shocking to society, such as, failure to report all facts from the media, failure of law enforcement to be transparent and forthcoming in a timely manner, or the advent of Youtube or Facebook along with the ability to live stream.
As a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, most Americans have a general knowledge about terrorism. The U.S. military has been at war for around a decade, continuing the concentration of the media and politicians on Middle Eastern countries and terrorist groups. Consequently, the focus of the nation tends to remain on international terrorist groups rather than domestic terrorist groups. There is a vast amount of terrorism groups in America, including the Army of God, the Aryan Nations, and the Animal Liberation Front, who possess extreme ideals and exist for different reasons. The fact that there are numerous terrorist groups that are composed of American citizens performing tremendous acts of violence within the U.S. seems to go somewhat unnoticed by the general public.
Law Enforcement officers have one of the most critical jobs in the United States. Their lives are always on the line and they are of high regards. This means they cannot fail! The results of their jobs do not only depend on their actions but also on the people. What this means is the community has a huge role when it comes to solving crime. Though many people may not believe it, they are the key to a successful crime prevention community. The people of the United States don’t really understand both the positive and negative effects that community policing actually brings. Some may say it is very dangerous based on their experiences. Others may say it’s the best way to do away with crime. Today the two will be compared and put to test by true officers serving our country. The facts will be stated and questions will be answered. Let’s take a look at what community policing is really all about!
In the documentary War of Drugs, we learned about how the U.S is taking on the problem of drugs in our country. It shows the police raiding cities with drug problems all over their streets. The own Chief of the police department calls their actions “questionable”, because it requires snooping and sneaking on their citizens. We also saw how the war on drugs is being fought in Columbia by spraying it with pesticide. This documentary was interesting to me. I had no idea that America was spraying Columbia’s coca fields. Also it was nice to see how it shared both opinions about whether or not the war on drugs was working.
Drug dealers are illegal unlicensed pharmacists, and the stigma of drug dealers is they’ll either wind up dead or incarcerated. Law enforcement is supposed to keep the community safe, and fight off crime. However, in today’s society these characters have lost some respect. Pastors are accused of raping and molesting young males, and having affairs with women. Drug dealers are selling laced heroin and willing to sell to minors and professionals. Anytime that a cop rolls by, is in your rearview mirror, or across the street, it brings fear. Cops are looked at as murderers, pigs, racist, etc. Nonetheless, there is no trust between any of these authoritative figures.
This Corruption affects us whether we believe it or not. The public may not understand the causes for the problem, but there is no reason for people not to act or the corruption to continue. “Lieutenant: Get over here. Bus patron: Me?Lieutenant: Get the f*** over here. Yeah, you. Bus patron: Why? What did I do? Lieutenant: Give me your ID. Bus patron: Why? Lieutenant:Stop being a smart ass and give me your ID. The lieutenant ran the man’s name for warrants. Finding none, he returned the ID and said, "Get the hell out of my face."(http://www.cbc.ca) The law enforcement system might never be perfect, but improvements may promote public support and cooperation against this violence. The public, local government officials, and law enforcement departments must work as one to combat the problems of
In today’s society Community Policing and problem solving is what is needed to keep criminal activity under control. Due to ineffective policing methods crime has continued to be on a rise. Police organizations have learned over the years that getting the community involved in fighting crimes, makes the members of the community feel much safer and gives them some sense of pride in regards to the community they live in. This paper will discuss how much of an impact community policing and problem solving has had between law enforcement and the community in which they serve. This paper will also address solutions more communities are using to help control the access to these different drugs.
