Decent Essays

Procedure: First, gather the needed supplies, which include two (2) meter sticks, stopwatch or other timing devices, and a tennis ball or other throwable object. Find an open place with a high ceiling or go outside; if outside make sure to be at least one hundred (100) yards away from roofs or other surfaces the ball could get stuck on. Next, find the starting height of the ball, which can be done two (2) ways: Find the height of release by fully extending your arm to the maximum height during your throwing motion and then have your partner measure this height. Have your partner hold a meter stick upright at ninety (90) degrees and release the ball during the throw at the same point every time. Designate one partner to time, while …show more content…

This can be done by using differential calculus to the find the function of the velocity of the ball after t seconds, the vertical velocity at a known time during the ball’s motion, and to calculate the maximum height of the ball. This lab also taught us how to apply differential calculus to find the position, time, velocity, and acceleration of an object when given the object’s position versus time
