When Shanks returned with Luffy he was missing an arm. The crew had gone berserk, and the crew's doctor had literally dragged his captain away to treat the wound. He spent two days resting before he was allowed up and on his feet again. It was the day after taht that found the crew loading up on supplies and preparing to leave. "So you're leaving?" Luffy asked, glancing between Shanks and Rowan. "Yeah, it was a nice extended vacation, but we have to part ways now," Shanks paused in his descent down the steps. "I bet you'll miss me, right?" "Yeah," Luffy admitted. " But this time's different. I won't beg you to take me with you, cause I'm gonna become a pirate all on my own." "In that case..." He plopped the hat onto Luffy's head. "I'll leave this hat to you," Shanks decided. "It means more to me than anything in the world, so you better take good care of it, you hear me?" Tears streamed down the boys face as Shanks took Rowan's hand to lead her back to the ship. Biting her lip, she gently pulled it away, making him pause. "Shanks..." He smiled gently. "This is the one?" She nodded before launching at him for a hug. "I'll miss you. I wish you really were my papa." Shanks' eyes softened. "We're gonna miss you, too, kid. But I'm glad you finally found an island and friends you care enough about to want to stay. Look after Luffy, yeah? And no more fights with bandits until you two get strong enough to show them who's boss." "Yes, Shanks," Rowan smiled, fighting back tears. "And Rowan? For what it's wroth, I'd be proud to have been your dad," Shanks grinned. "So if that's how you wanna see me, I don't mind. You're a strong, kind hearted little kid.
