Technology 's impact on society has changed in many areas of our lives. Technology has changed travel, you can now book your own plane ticket without going to a traveler’s agency, schooling you can take classes online, and have access to doctors and medicine without having to leave your home. I chose to write about the topic of banking. With the help of technology banks are able to reach out to more customers and provide better services to them. How has technology affected the world of banking? What choices do we have when it comes to our banking needs?
With the advance technology, banking has become a 24 hours a day and seven days a week ability. Not too long ago banks were only open from 9:00am to 3:00pm, workers and businesses rushing to get to the bank before they close. Paychecks were handed out personally not direct deposit, cashing or depositing a paycheck entailed a trip to the bank. Now most companies have direct deposit and the printed paycheck is becoming a thing of the past, this is only one example of how technology in banking has changed in society. Transfer funds to other people, not just on a computer but now on our smartphones too. This technology has replaced the need for us to visit our bank and deal with a teller.
In this essay I will be writing about Online Banking, its use, how it evolved, impacts and how it benefited the global businesses. In late 1980s, the term online banking became popular. But in 1990s, the financial institutions implemented the online banking services. Initially it took some time to adopt the customers to do monetary transactions through online banking. Afterwards, with increasing use of computers, internet and World Wide Web, banks introduced new form of banking called Online Banking. It is a service from a bank to perform banking transactions through internet. This all has changed drastically within the past 10 years with the development of mobile banking. Mobile banking incorporates web-based transactions and abilities, mobile payments, and other financial relations all-stemming from a mobile device. It has become widespread due to the accessibility, ease, and the number of users continually joining the mobile banking movement. Not only have the United States and Canada been affected, but mobile banking and payments are becoming an international norm. Great progress has positively impacted many banking institutions; however, concerns of security and personal privacy have halted its implementation among the US population. Though it can be viewed as a broad topic, mobile banking is portrayed through its changes and advancements with mobile payments, network effects, overall international influences, market landscape, and mixed perceptions of security within the model.

The most used e-banking product is the ATM card and SMS banking. Again respondents were more satisfied with ATM card than their internet banking. The study also revealed that most respondents were dissatisfied with the effectiveness of e-banking but also admitted that the e-banking product have had a positive impact on their lives.
