Over time technology has made a huge impact on our lives. Each day technology advances more than we realize. It has helped us in many ways on how we do things now. We are able to do more research in shorter time. For many technology is a great impact on their lives for some of us it has ruined the way we associate in everyday life. When it comes to the topic of technology, most of us will readily agree that has made our lives better. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is the question of how it is harmful. Whereas some are convinced that we cannot function without technology, others maintain that we do not need it.
In Sherry Turkle’s essay “No need to call,” she argues she sees a vulnerability in those who prefer social media to phone calls and I understand what she is stating. I can understand how some people would rather receive and send certain news via text or social media, but there is certain news I believe should be expressed in person so either the happiness or sorrow can be shared. It has more sentimental value if shared in person than through a text or social media. In the reading, many would not agree with me. Personally myself, I would rather receive any kind bad or good news face-to-face. Many would rather find out news, especially bad over via text or social media to contain feelings in this article. Even the visual voicemail has a setting where you can see the voicemail as a text which can be a good thing if the message is long. This could be a good thing, but through the text, you cannot hear their voice and truly hear what they feeling. Even though texting and social media is a good way to communicate with everyone mostly those who live far away from us, but it is also a way to hide behind the screen. Why would anyone like to hide behind a screen? I would prefer face to face or phone calls to communicate if possible to actually hear and see what they are feeling. We should not depend on texting and social media all the time because hearing a loved ones, friends, or family's voice and seeing them in person is always better. We never know if that is the last time we will see, hear or touch them.
