Technology: The Impact on Health and Lifestyle
Many people these days tend to shy from person to person conversations. Why? Because of technology, people these days lack the experience and courage to speak to each other without being timid or awkward. It has become a normal habit in our society to communicate through phones and laptops. Day by day, our generation is slowly developing a horrible future by losing social skills. Majority of of the current generation believe that internet is important and that we need technology to communicate. Also, humans believe that living a healthy life is important. Who knew that spending too much time with technology is causing human health to fade? Technology could possibly kill us or harm our health in numerous unspeakable ways. Something as simple as holding a phone, texting, watching T.V, or playing video games can have a significant effect on our health. Electronical devices start as far back as 1835 when Joseph Henry, who was an American scientist, created the first electronical remote device. Joseph created a remote switch that was used as part of a telegraph. Henry’s remote idea was later used for improving telephones. Electronics were first invented to help people communicate and/or improve their everyday lives. They were meant to enhance people’s lives by making life easier. These days, those factors have been replaced from being helpful to being used for personal pleasure. Now, people are using electronic devices in improper
Over the years, technology has become a great advancement that has led us towards a new way to live our life. We can see that the use of technology has increased as time has passed. Kids as young as 4 years old are exposed to technology such as tablets in order to entertain them. Not only has technology created a way to entertain people, but has also created a way to motivate others, become a convenient tool for those with a limited amount of time and a reliable source for other things. We have become more dependent on technology because of the different ways it can be used such as on the go or right at home. The truth is that technology has positively impacted the lifestyle of Americans.
Technology has also made it to the point where people are losing social skills and no longer interacting face to face. It has become common for people to have a more active virtual social life than they do a physical social life. “When the brain spends more time on technology-related tasks and less time exposed to other people, it drifts away from fundamental social skills like reading facial expressions during conversation” (“Scientists Fear”, 2008). Technology has come to a point where people no longer have to or want to leave their homes in order to meet and socialize with other people. With such things as social networking, we are allowed to meet hundreds of new people without even moving. The problem with that is we need to have the opportunity to leave our homes and engage in social interactions face to face. Social skills are important for a healthy social life. “Social skills are the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other, both verbally and non-verbally, through gestures,
First of all, technology hinders the way people talk with each other. Technology gets in the way of person to person interaction.
However, like genetics, it also has many negatives. Technology does improve the world’s ability to communicate quickly and easily, but it also separates people socially. Social media and smartphones for example, have dramatically reduced human interaction. Everyone would rather communicate online than in the real world. According to Pew Research Center, “Roughly two-thirds of U.S. adults (68%) now report that they are Facebook users, and roughly three-quarters of those users access Facebook on a daily basis” (Smith and Anderson 1). This a huge portion the the American population that is using Facebook alone. There are many other social media platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest that attract even more users. The more people use these services, the less they interact with others in person. Aldous Huxley once said, “Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards” (Huxley 1). Before the technology that exists today, people were unable to communicate with others that weren’t in their area. Now, people tend to communicate with those around them less. As technology continues to improve, this situation will only become worse. Preventative action must be taken to prevent this from destroying human
We should take in consideration that technology is great and all but it is causing us to be anti social and preferring to to text or call someone instead of actually socializing. Nowadays we as human beings no longer take time to meet up with someone in the park or somewhere to have a deep conversation with or just to catch up we would rather
Most people in the world today are distracted by cell phones, tablets, and computers. Without any of those items there wouldn't be much connection going on. Technology hinders personal communication, which negatively impacts our age- group. Data shows that those who use the internet frequently spend over 100 minutes less time with friends and family than non-internet users, according to Norman H. Nie and D, Sunshine Hillygus in their paper “ The Impact of Internet use on Sociability.” The internet actually distracts from the communication skills are gradually lessened. Technology negatively affects us by perpetuating the mindset of immediate satisfaction. We as people will not be positively impacted by communicating through a computer screen, if we already do not have the self-confidence to socially interact in reality. I believe the advancement of technology has negatively impacted our social interactions because it detaches us from what is happening around us. The world must learn to embrace technology without allowing it to negatively impact the creation of functional adults in
Technology has made some amazing strides over the years. Smartphones, laptops, navigational systems, and even robots performing surgery! Although there are so many benefits of living in a technologically advanced world it does come with downfalls. We have transformed a friendly, communicative world into a place where we all thrive off of our handheld devices instead of the company from loved ones around us. Sherry Turkle is a well known technology and social sciences professor. She has written books advocating that people do not value conversation anymore and technology is to blame. I stand with her on this belief and strongly believe that us humans are not valuing face to face contact as much as we should.
Technology makes our lives luxurious and approachable. The influence of technology on our social, mental, and physical and environment health can be overwhelming annihilative if we stop keeping ourselves in check. Though, benefits of technology are likewise icing on the cake. However, keeping all parameters towards intensive use of technology; moderation is a key in life.
As technology increasingly impacts our lives and the pace of life quickens for consumers, businesses are also experiencing a similar effect with product life cycles. Products like people, experience various stages of life as they are introduced (i.e. - born), grow, mature, and depart from the consumer zeitgeist of their time in existence (Solomon, Marshall & Stuart, 2012). As a result, marketers must plan for and operate differently in each stage of a product’s life cycle to ensure the product remains relevant as long as possible. Therefore, when products are introduced marketers are often required to educate the marketplace about the product to attract first time users, steadily cultivate additional sales, and recuperate research and development costs. As sales grow and the product’s velocity accelerates, the product transitions into the growth stage of the life cycle. When this occurs marketers often increase advertising and begin to introduce variants of the original product to expand market segments, encourage brand loyalty, and secure additional market share as competition increases.
This generation has become so involved with the technological world that people are lacking qualities needed to become successful without it. “‘We expect more from technology and less from one another,’ this is because we have relied on our technology for so long, that we develop a relationship that causes us to think it will never lead us astray or tell us any wrong.” It’s becoming so common to meet people through our cell phones, that we are slowly losing the ability to meet new people face to face. “The experience of using and analyzing verbal rhetoric that is gained through a face to face conversation or discussion is something that cannot be taught or acquired through technological means of communication” (Dougherty). When communicating through cell phones, the experience of seeing one’s facial expressions is lost. Along with hearing the tone of voice, and the ability to use these clues to help decipher the true meaning. The lack of face to face conversations is causing people to lose the ability to speak in front of others.
As our society progresses, more and more things are becoming electronic. Everything seems to be on some type of electronic device, and as individuals in the society we rely on our phones, computers, ipads, ipods, and television for everything. The evolution of technology will not slow down and it will keep progressing further and further. Soon, every single thing we do will be electronic based if it isn’t already. When I look around, I see people always on their phones and it doesn’t matter how old they are. I am growing up in an era where technology trumps all, especially smartphones, which raises some questions. Are our technological devices ruining us? Do they change the way we act or carry ourselves? Are they making us dumber and
Now I want tell you something about the common phenomenon in the society first.Technology can be a beautiful thing. It connects us to others, it’s super convenient. If you can use it with mindfully, can even help us find a little bit of calm. But as the old adage goes, too much of anything can be bad.Ninety-one percent of American adults and 60 percent of teens own this device that has revolutionized communication in the 21st century — the cellphone. What is the first thing you gonna do after you getting up?Is to check message?Email?Or look over your facebook? This question is for girls, what is the first thing you gonna do when you see the adorable cupcakes?Do you want eat it?No!Take a picture first. If your answers are about your cellphone,I am sorry, you should take care of your health now.Now technology has tight connect with our everyday life. When I walk outside, everyone lowers their head,I’m really worry about them if they against the telegraph pole...So do I.And we will also find the age that wear glasses has become smaller and smaller. Many other things, they are all the harm of technology which impact on our health.Depends on my eyesight is beginning to fail,I want change the condition,I did a lot research that trying to improve it. If you try to spend less time on your cell phone ,you will realized how beautiful the world is.You will be more energetic, everthing will be changed. So why do we need spend less time on technology?
A tremendous amount of technology can interfere with a human’s health and development. For example, “There’s no question that we feel the internet has made us better researchers, better thinkers, better writers.” (iPads) This means that technology has made society enhance on basic skills that apply to life. This occurs when students are at school or when adults have a job. The significance of this situation is that technology can be valuable and is a resource that people can utilize, making brains develop in a different way. However, there are negative affects about technology like, rewiring the brain that creates health issues. For example, in Fahrenheit 451 when Montag attempts to talk to Mildred, “His wife in the TV parlor paused long enough from reading her script to look up...” (17) The fact that Mildred didn’t remember anything after she overdosed and had to have her stomach pumped is an obvious problem. She thinks that she was just drinking too much, but it’s because in the society of Fahrenheit
Technology occurred before the human kind and it has improved people’s lives positively and negatively. The influence of technology is really great that it has absolutely changed our lifestyle. Computers, the Internet, Gadgets all these things have transformed our working system completely and our productivity has increased unbelievably. As everyone knows with every positive that have to be a negative, technology is really great, but it also has a huge affected every part of family life. We are spending more time indoors than we are outside. The time we spent on the computer, watching TV, and other electronics drive is about 8 hours a day. During this time, we are usually spent alone and not with the rest of the family. With all the electronics drive, we currently have, we don 't need to get out of the house anymore, you can do everything from the luxury of your home. Almost everything revolves around technology now. Don’t get me wrong, I love computer and all the technology we have now, with every new invention coming out I have them all, Apple Watch, iPhone7 Plus, iPad, new Apple TV, and new headphone, most of my product is around Apple because I love the company they produce a good product, good design, and it last for a long time. On June 29, 2007, about 9 years ago, when the first generation of the iPhone came out, people will wait outside the stores to buy it. The estimated sales of this first generation iPhone were around 250,000 and 700,000 units in the first weekend
An era in which primary wants have risen along as primary needs have vanished. Society has pushed us to require unnecessary products that business are provide us with. And while time passes by we increasingly need more and more comfort. But is there a possible way to keep up with it?
