Techfite Leadership Approach

In the workplace, teams play a very important role in goal achievement. With the help and support of a team leader, the organization can become very successful as long as the team is effective and cooperative. There are many different leadership styles/theories that make each leader unique and effective in their own way. It is not just the leader though that has to be effective. The team as a whole needs to come together and being efficient. Team building strategies are very helpful and effective to bring everyone together. Although working in a team is very effective in most cases, conflicts can still arise. In order to bring everyone back together again conflict resolutions need to be put into place such as the problem solving technique. …show more content…

Due to the different skills each member possesses, I would use the task-oriented leadership approach to manage the team. The “primary purpose of task-oriented behaviors is to ensure that people, equipment, and other resources are used in an efficient way to accomplish the mission of a group or organization”(Smartbook, 2017). With that being said, I see this leadership approach to be best fit for managing the Techfite project team. There are several goals that the project must meet and these include; budget constraints, innovative design, and safety. I would use an initiating structure, which is a leader behavior that organizes and derives what group members should be doing to maximize output, to split up the tasks(Smartbook, 2017). …show more content…

In the case of the Techfite group, the conflict they are facing is an intragroup conflict, due to interpersonal disagreements. An intragroup conflict occurs within the group among the individuals. Misunderstandings and incompatibilities between teammates leads to this type of conflict (Evans, 2013). As in the conflict being discussed, Bill and Mark are trying to take over the project themselves and are not allowing Laura to voice her opinions or contribute to the project. Also, John and Laura are against trying the new compound that Bill and Mark are advocating to try. The team is becoming more divided due to difference in opinions about taking risks and due to superiority from Bill and Mark. With conflicts arising, the team is breaking apart and that is causing deadlines to not be met and slowing the project down as a whole. There are a few different approaches to take to resolve conflict, but in this case the approach I would use would be the integrating/problem solving technique. This style of conflict resolution is defined as when “interested parties confront the issue and cooperatively identify the problem, generate and weigh alternatives and select a solution”(Evans, 2013). I would use the technique of problem solving because in this case the Techfite project team is all working towards reaching the same goal, with their careers on the line.
