Team Portfolio-Southwest Airline case information project In this MG-624-I03 course, I was assigned to team number 1 for Southwest Airline project. And I have to say that I was lucky to be assigned to a strong group. Every member in the group works towards the same goal which makes the group assignments easier than it supposed to be. In the beginning, each member will actively give suggestions on how to effectively complete the project. It is also worth mentioning that our team leader Alyson Stilwell is very responsible to our team project. She will put all the posts from different members in order regularly. Moreover, she will edit and reorganize all the materials and compile them all together before the final submission. In addition, Stacey …show more content…
Moreover, Harvey noticed Cathy was making over twice as much money as anyone else in the firm except himself. In my opinion, the reason for this to happen was Harvey offered her a sales override in the amount of two percent of sales to make up the lower salary he offered her at the beginning when he hired her. On the other hand, Harvey did not even try to keep up with the financial details. As an entrepreneur, Harvey made right choices. His major decisions had been correct. However, he knew nothing about computers at the beginning. As a manager, Harvey checked Cathy's references before he hired her even though Cathy was the person he had envisioned. Also, Harvey told Cathy how important her job is. But after Harvey had qualified sales staff, he should stop Cathy doing all the jobs belong to the sales staffs. Furthermore, Harvey should not totally relied on Frank to bring important matters to his attention. I think Harvey is a better entrepreneur. As a manager, he should have given Cathy a promotion long time ago. Cathy took her time to learn each new product or service and studied at business school. She also developed herself into a computer aficionado and became the best computer operator in the firm. We should have no doubt about how much Cathy had done for the company. She took care of a lot of stuff even some are not her duties. Harvey might need to cancel Cathy's sales override due to her salary was too far out of line with other salaries in the firm, Or maybe Harvey needs to raise up other staff's salary as well. But what I believe is best for Harvey is to give Cathy a promotion. Because Cathy deserves it. It was not really easy for her to work for a new firm was the complete absence of financial security at the beginning. And her contribution to the firm was part of the reason why the firm
For this class project, I think my group worked well together on the assignments. We all saw we had responsibilities and were expected to do our own parts for each assignment we worked on. For each assignment, we would split it equally among us and used a tool called Google Docs so we were each on our own computers but working together on one file. Google Docs really made the process easier with reviewing all the information and having it all in one file. If any questions came up we had a group text to communicate when we weren’t on campus grounds for class.
Overall, this group project went very well and was completed on time due to the fact there everyone including myself assigned ourselves with a task role, relational role and from the start had individual roles present such as leader, compromiser, and gatekeepers in the group that made it
This project was the assignment of MGMT:2100 I took last semester. I was working as the manger for the project. My duties were the creation of project schedule, the job assignment, the leadership of our group meeting. Whenever I was performing these duties, I encouraged them to voice their opinions first and then made decisions that everyone were satisfied with. To ensure that everyone is on right track, I sent reminders and the meeting materials to them prior to our team meeting. I was also responsible for a part of the writing and the revise of final draft.
Since 2016, operating income decreased while net income increased. Operating income decreased from 4,116 to 3,760. Net income increased from 2,181 to 2,244. In 2016, total operating revenues increased from 19,820 to 20,425 which is most likely because of an increase in their research and development. As for operating expenses, jet fuel prices are a huge factor because of fluctuating costs. In 2016, operating expenses increased from 15,704 to 16,655.
Doing a group project is a challenge because some members are not well committed to the work. I am going to use my leadership skills to motivate all members to participate equally
Cathy is making significantly more than Harvey’s best salespersons and managers, almost as much as Harvey and extremely higher than any receptionist’s salary (Cohen & Fink, 2001). The problem does not lie with just overlooked financial, payroll documents but Harvey’s lack of participation in the financials of his business. When Harvey hired Cathy, he could not offer her requested salary, and even made an offer that was 12% lower than her previous salary, but Harvey needed the
This exercise discusses the membership, social identity, and mechanics operating within the team informally known as ERAU Nighthawks. This team, originally assembled as Group 3, formed by instructor assignment during the August 2016 section of class PGMT 502 Effective Communication for Managing Projects. In addition to the group mechanics, this paper includes a discussion of the best practices for ERAU graduate course meetings discovered by the Nighthawks.
Working in a group to achieve a high quality group project can be one of people’s most difficult school experiences. Working in a group is tough because there is often someone who does not pull their own weight. “There are five stages to group development, adjourning, forming, storming, performing, and norming” (John & Wiley pg 166). Christine’s group from the Case Study the Forgotten Group Member is in between the Storming and Norming Stages. The Storming Stage “is dealing with tensions and defining group tasks,” while the Norming Stage is dealing with high emotionality and tension among the group members” (John & Wiley pg. 166). Christine and her group could have had better
The intent of this paper it to define critical concepts of strategic planning with Southwest Airlines (SWA) top management and how their organization pursued choices and different strategies to run the business by using superior performance employees that gave them a competitive advantage over their competitors. I will concentrate on the thirteen strategic staffing decisions that are critical for any organization to be successful. I will also emphasis the knowledge, skills, abilities, and others (KSAOs) relative to the staffing process and how the company teaches these skills to the employees.
With this said it was surprise to Harvey to find that Cathy, his secretary, was making twice as much as his other employees earning $127k in the business year, with her salary increasing each year with continued success. Harvey is faced with the dilemma of determining whether the value Cathy has added to his company since its inception warrants her current and future increasing compensation.
A project that I have managed was a senior capstone project which involved extensively researching a psychologist and present a complete presentation to the psychology department heads at Virginia Commonwealth University. As the project manager on the senior capstone project I encountered several difficulties and problems that required an innovated approach to team management. My group included of a total of four group members, these group members assumed as project led I would complete our group project without any help. I used my experience that I gained from working at PepsiCo to motivate my team members into all of us working together. I organized a group meeting to get to know each other by leading a communication exercise among the group
In continuation from assignment one, this paper is dealing with issues to do with the fictitious North American Human resource advisement Council (NAHRAC) company . The paper will contain a memo communicating the budget situation of the project to the rest of the team. Two ways to improve an underperforming team member will be suggested. Finally a plan of action will be organized to get the project back on track.

The leader must be sure to take the group dynamics into consideration. It is important to make everyone involved feel that their needs are important. For the project to be a success, everyone participating must feel as if they are contributing and that they are being valued equally.
The personal style and personalities of each member in a group may be influence their team effectiveness. Individuals will tend to play an important role in a group and depend on their personality and working group style. To improve a team and effectiveness in project or working, each team member need to understand the role of every member in a group. With 3 contemporary theories of team roles to use in our group is:
