A program team member is a student who is dedicated to help other students and give advice that’s not only related to school, but also real life situations that can be useful in the long run. Particularly, our job as a PT member is to connect with the upcoming HUI peer mentors and help them become the best peer mentors as possible. I’ve always been the person to take a step further in helping people from all ages. Such examples include assistant coaching high school students on the soft tennis team and volunteering at community events. Furthermore, this proves that I possess certain qualities that would make me a successful program team member for HUI.
States is a rigorous competition that requires numerous hours of hard work and a determined team to succeed in. Some things that we, 5436, are focusing on to increase our chances of succeeding at States are working on our interview skills, improving the robot to avoid past flaws, and creating a more festive attitude towards the idea of competition in order to keep moral up. We dedicated a full work session towards improving on our ability to correctly answer common questions that judges ask during interviews. Along with this, we worked on the posture and formation that the team should have when talking, and which team members can be called upon in cases where one does not know how to properly answer a question. Once issues related to interviews were handled, we moved onto improving the mechanics of the robot.

3) Evaluation: My role was to supervise the junior for their actions, communicate with them set up the meeting. While evaluating the situation, I reviewed several literatures regarding team coordination and how it can be improved. A study by Harris, Treanor and Salisbury (2013, pp.560), reveals that the coordination between staff member is very challenging as the opinion of one individual may not match to another individual, personality clashes, lack of communication, feeling of superiority, feeling of ashamed in front of colleague if something went wrong may disbalance the coordination between team member. Furthermore, in any health care setting team work and coordination is associated with the positive patient outcome. This is supported
I believe that in any professional setting teambuilding and communication skills are critical to one's performance. Having worked in a hospital before, I've seen the difference having a bedside mannerism can make but I've also seen the communication required between doctors, assistants, and nurses to ensure that they can provide the care the patient needs. Being able to work with people is something I find joy in and being able to do so will maintaining a level of professionalism is a skill I am able to bring to the workplace.
Overall, I saw a really good performance from the teams I watched at the novice tournament.
Before coming to Bentley University, I had heard from many people who recommended the school that group work was heavily integrated into courses. Now, as a current sophomore at Bentley University, I have found this to be true for many of my classes. Some classes place more emphasis on group work than others. In GB214 (Marketing/Operations Fundamentals) for instance, from day one, students are divided into teams and are assigned a semester-long group project involving research and analysis of a company’s marketing and operations strategy. (Even the final exam for this class is a group presentation!). In other classes, such as GB215,
I received a 31 out of 50, on the assessment. I agree with the results because I have mixed feelings when it comes to working in teams. In the past I have had good and bad experiences, so that tends to sway my feelings in regard to working with others on an assignment. Some of the things I can do to be a good team player, would be to make sure that we are all on the same page and we all have a good understanding on what the expectations of the assignment are and how we are all going to contribute. Another thing I noticed in the past I could use to be a good team player, would be checking in often throughout the week to make sure that everyone is still able to complete their portion of the assignment and are not behind, we all have times that
Commitment and involvement- the team should be able to understand the goals and should be committed in achieving them
Recently we had a group project in our Human Relations class, it was a challenge because we were all new with each other and we had to plan everything together and learn each other’s styles in a short amount of time. We had a lot of respect for each other because we listened to what everyone had to say and made efforts to work around the ideas. Watching this Teamwork video really gives us an open idea on what a group should be and how we should treat one another. Being open is a major key in teamwork because everyone needs to communicate, and express their emotions to better our team and being honest. Sometimes maybe we didn’t agree with a teammate’s idea and that’s normal, however we expressed our reasoning’s or tried to understand the idea better. It is not healthy to be rude and talk bad about each other to other people, everyone is just going to lose trust.
A team is a “group with a common objective whose members are very clear about working toward one purpose.” (Nazzaro & Strazzabosco, 2009, p.4). As stated by Campbell (2003), a team is defined by what the team must do – by the purpose; the purpose is the reason that the team exists. A purpose is what brings a group of individuals together. According to Campbell (2003), a purpose has 4 important functions. Firstly, it “gives a context for decision making, with a stable point of reference from which to set goals and make plans.” (Campbell, 2003, p.203.). This means that those part of the group, have the opportunity to make decisions, and set realistic goals and objectives. Secondly, it “provides a yard-stick, a measurement of progress of the team relative to an external standard.” (Campbell, 2003, p.203.). This means that the group’s objective is attainable, and its progress can be monitored. Thirdly, it “provides a focus for collaboration and shared responsibility” (Cambell, 2003, p.203.), meaning that every individual is equally involved and participating actively. Lastly, the fourth function of a
