Team Sloan started in 2001 with three crossbred gilts were used in a small FFA project with the thought of them being competitive for 4-H and FFA in Missouri. Scott Sloan grew up raising purebred hogs and wanted his kids to have the same experience. The start of Team Sloan was slow but they eventually branched out into a few other species and it formed quickly.
On the journey, there were many dangers the Corps of Discovery faced. June 15, 1805, something unexpected happened. Lewis was out hunting on his own, he had shot a buffalo and as the buffalo fell to the ground, a grizzly bear came running towards him. Lewis’ gun was not loaded, so he did the first thing that came to mind. There was a river nearby so he ran into the water, the bear stopped running, and turned the other direction. As Lewis and Clark arrived at the camp Nez Perce, the tribe did not trust the Corps of Discovery. While the Corps stayed at the camp, some of the men got very ill from eating unfamiliar foods. The Nez Perce tribe thought about killing the weak men, but a young Native, Watkuweis stopped the tribe from doing any harm.
Searching for a path to regain stability, the Pirates headed to Mazama on Tuesday April 26th for a single game. On paper, it seemed the Pirates had the advantage in nearly every facet of the game, but baseball is a fickle matter. Though the Vikings had played a double header just the day before, their offense came swinging early and often amidst the swirling winds of Mazama. The Pirates initially managed to strike quick in the
There are over 180,000 felons loose in the United States that police cannot track (Time Maz) due to outdated software, a patchwork of isolated papers and digital files. Retrieving data has been a time consuming task for police departments across the country. Scott Crouch, Flo Mayra and Matt Polega, all 23 year old Harvard graduates, built a cloud based records management and analytics system to help change this process. Thanks to the Mark43 system, what would take Police Officers hours to enter arrest and incident reports, now takes only 30 minutes. A college professor of the three co-founders sent them on a class project in Springfield (is this Illinois? Where?) to observe how the police department used this
The All American Girl’s Professional Baseball League both challenged and reinforced traditional women’s roles. The AAGPBL only lasted for eleven years, but its effects are not forgotten. Towards the beginnings of the lead, along with the influential leaders, the players were the ones to make it famous. The AAGPBL made women athletics a possibility today and helped America to emerge to why women athletes are necessary. After the men returned from war, the league began to decline and the women were eventually forced back into being housewives and back into the households.
One of the many sport The Gators dominate in, is softball. The Gators always manage to be ranked fifth seed or above nationally. And this year is no different because they stand their ground and have managed to get first seed. They always rank high because of their training. The girls that participate in The Gators softball always try to give their best, and with all this hard work they almost always succeed. “ The undefeated and No. 1 ranked Florida Gators will start SEC play this weekend against LSU and the Gators will look to build upon their 27-0 start that is the best start in school history.” states the article (“The Battle of the Unbeaten in Softball”).
Being in a sorority is very rewarding yet can be very time consuming. Each member that is part of a sorority has a huge role to play even if you do not hold a position within the organization. Alpha Sigma Alpha is a national sorority who is heavily involved with community service and their three national philanthropies, St. June Smith, Special Olympics, and Girls on the Run, as well as local philanthropy year after year. This source is located on Alpha Sigma Alpha’s national website that is dedicated towards the sorority’s service and giving. In this section their philanthropic statement states, “Life is not taking in only; it is giving out too. It is giving ourselves - freely - to other people, giving ourselves in comradeship, in understanding,
The 2005 Kansas City Royals finished dead last in the ALC, winning less than 35% of their games that season. Due to the Royals less than stellar season, diehard KC baseball fans were forced to seek out other local teams to get their baseball fix. Much like the Royals at the time, my elementary coach-pitch softball games were not the place for such fans.
Later aluminum bats were made and now composite bats are what is used.” When talking about these bats and the new designs that are being used and the “pop” they have now are just unrealistic she made a point to me that really stuck out when she said, “The game that started as a pitchers game has now become a game of offense because of the bats.” That really spoke out to me because the game is not matching the bat to the power of the pitchers and is making the game more competitive. We started laughing at the thought of some of my teammates having to hit a ball with a broom stick then we got into more of the deeper questions. As a player I’ve always wondered what was a coaches true intentions and as I asked Coach Perry, “As a coach what is your philosophies?” and as I expected she did disappoint with her answer being, “To develop a positive environment for the advancement of softball, and softball skills, and knowledge of the game. To assure that winning isn’t everything, but working to be successful is. By successful I mean in the classroom, on the field, and in life. By striving to be successful, winning will go hand in hand in that. Also insuring everyone knows the play a special and unique part of the team and what the team will accomplish. Everyone brings something different, but great to a team,
The Women's Sport Softball is known as an all girls sport ,but it hasn’t always been that way. In fact softball used to be played with mostly male players. So how did softball become an all girl sport over the years? This essay will explain how women were forced to play softball over the years. “The first softball game ever “played” was in 1887 on thanksgiving day at a football game.
Hard work never goes un-noticed, and although I did improve, I had acquired the label of ‘outfielder’. The position that wasn’t home to me, but I was forced to recognize as my spot on the field. My first year of Varsity softball arrived and I made it clear infield is where I wanted to be, but my coach’s confidence in me continued to lack to match the level of mine, along with the fact the returning third basemen was a veteran. And the outfield is where I was sent, yet again.
Have you ever had so much passion for a sport you have been playing for almost your whole life? I love playing all positions of softball and I admire everything that comes with it that includes battle wounds, road trips to games, making memories to practicing out on home field getting ready to bat some love into their lives. Softball is not an easy sport at all but it’s my passion and a privilege to be able to stand on that field. So much love, effort and hard work has been put in over the years. After 12 years of truly knowing the sport these are my favorite things out on the field such as pitching with strength, sliding with passion, and batting to hear all of your support to make a home run!
Many fans would do anything to support or stand up for their player or team. During any softball game, our parents and fans will go crazy if anything goes against us. Yelling at the people supporting the opposing team, the coaches, even the umpires, we see the rudeness in the stands. “The riot in Detroit also set off a second battle across the country, as everyone from sports-radio yakkers to families gathered for Thanksgiving dinner tried to assign blame for the rise of incivility in spectator sports--the athletes or the fans?” (Saporito, Bill 1).
