This article focuses on the many forms of technology in relation to special education. The article discusses the “high” and “low” forms of technology that is available for students with special needs to help “bypass” or “compensate” for their disabilities. The article goes on to survey the current status of assistive technology for the special education population. In the end, the article uncovers that the use of assistive technology for the special education population is promising though uncertain. Assistive technology has proven to be beneficial for students with learning disabilities, as it would empower them to work beyond their normal capabilities (Lewis, 1998).

That makes sense but the way the video explained it was different that i ever thought about it. I always thought that it made us worse at writing because it fixes all of our mistakes through spell check and others. But in the film it stated that technology doesn't let us think in chains anymore. We can’t sit down for a hour and write a nice essay, but instead we get distracted. These distractions can be looking at a text or your facebook but they take your mind off your work.

In this artifact, I researched for alternative technological tool(see Assistive technology.doc) for students with disabilities to represent how technology could be a great assistance for them. This assignment represents how technology could be used by all students no matter what they need. Therefore, in this assignment, I looked for tools and ways to implement access to technology resources for students who have neuromuscular difficulties, and/or difficulties of counting with her finger to show that there are varieties of technological tool for all the needs.

Communication is a means for instruction, evaluation, interpersonal relationships, group interactions, parent and community relations and counseling. In order to resolve most behavior issues in schools, you must involve some type of communication. Communication is infused in education.

It is estimated that one in every sixty eight children will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (CDC, 2014). In schools around the country these students are struggling in their classroom environment due to deficits in three areas; communication skills, social skills, and repetitive behaviors or interest (Marder & Fraser, 2012). Implementing the use of technology in the classroom like iPad, iPod, android tablets, e-readers, and computers is beneficial to students with autism spectrum disorder. It can increase communication skills, can help make their classroom experience more pleasant, and it gives them the best chance at success.

Electronics are believed to interfere with learning. Jose Antonio Bowen states in his article, “NO: Classrooms Must Be a Place of Focus and Mental Stillness,” that instead of improving education, technology “doesn’t solve the problem, it only brings it into the classroom.” However, these problems could be prevented if students were given restrictions while still having the ability to find different and unique ways to boost their knowledge. In “YES: New Tools Let Students Learn More, and More Deeply,” Lisa Nielsen explains that just because they have access to electronic devices does not necessarily mean that they are doing something other than texting or cheating, and that teachers are monitoring their students at the best of their ability.

Technology can be found in every classroom of schools today and continues to grow as the field of technology continues to advance. School age children today know more about technology than most middle-aged adults because they have been exposed to it from such an early age. We live in the technology age and it’s clear that technology is here to stay and has permeated every area of our lives including home, work and leisure. Because of this, educators and school staff have been tech-savvy and must continue to keep up with the technological advances in order to present as competent to the student body. Technology has impacted the way our students learn and has provided avenues of learning to disabled students that they didn’t have in the past and has provided teaching staff with a multitude of resources and diversity in class activities to aid in teaching (Pearson, 2010). Without a doubt, technology will continue to impact our educational system as new technologies emerge and our country competes to keep up with a new globalized economy. This can be frustrating and stressful and can lead to behavior problems (Dell, 2009). Disabled students can use low-tech adaptations for writing and prewriting graphic organizers to help them build social skills. This can help disabled by using graphic organizers to help them organize their thoughts by using diagrams. For example, students can manipulate their ideas in order to help them brainstorm towards their research topics. Also, students would use assistive devices to help them by using word document in order to help revise papers by getting feedback. The use of technology in educating children with special needs has widely grown in the past few decades. Individuals with special needs are unique and all have different areas in which they need assistance. Due to the advancements in assistive technology, computer programs, software, and other technology tools, it has become much easier for people to find useful and easier ways to become educated. Because of this, “technology has changed the way people with disabilities live, work, and learn.” (Winzer,98)

I think that the use of technology in schools is one of the best decisions the school system could have made. Living in a time period of accelerating change, I think that it is important to lean away from the more traditional educational tactics of teaching and learning that may have worked in the past. And start to transition into the more modern-day style of teaching and learning, which involves technology. Students are always using technology. Whether it is them on their laptops, tablets, or using their phones to surf the internet or an app, it is a vital part of their daily lives. I think that because technology plays such a primary role in students' lives, the best way to connect with students in the classroom, is to incorporate technology into some part of the lesson. I believe that
