• Put on some music and invite children to a dance party (1 – 6 years old) - Music activities and experiences help children practice important skills, including thinking, language, motor coordination and understanding emotions. Music and singing can help children follow the routine. Clean-up songs alert children that it's time to put away their toys and move to another activity. Educators can use songs to signal a transition from one activity to another, or to keep children interested and occupied while they are waiting for the next activity. Playing quiet music is a clear signal for nap time. Loud, energetic music can get children up and moving or help them use up energy before they settle down to a quieter task. For this kind of experience
Three laps around the gym, minute long planks, crunches, sit-ups, and pushups in a matter of thirty minutes. As a dancer, experiencing and realizing the strength that needs to be present in order for an athlete to grow is vital. We go through long hours of choreography sessions, pain and strain on our bodies, and vigorous training. Many people will disagree on the status of if dance is a sport or not. Both Mary- Elizabeth Esquibel, in her article “Why Dance Will Always Be a Sport” and the infographic entitled “Is Dance a Sport?” attack this controversial dilemma. Even though these arguments use different formats, they use rhetoric similarly.

As a group the children are being offered the chance to learn to express ideas with confidence, empathize with their friends, and feel at home in their own skin. Song, music and dance can help children become more imaginative, self-aware and improve their social skills in a fun and enjoyable fashion. According to Aistear’s theme of communicating Aim 1: Children will use non-verbal communication skills. After repeatedly being asked over and over again, “So what sport do you play again?” I am now completely prepared for all the confused looks I know that i'm going to get when I say, “I dance” As an individual who has been dancing for as long as they can remember and has participated in local, national, and international dance competitions, I am a dancer and dance will always be my sport. So yes, I guess you could say that i might be a little biased, but before answering the questions whether dance is a sport, it is important to define what makes a sport a sport. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a sport is the “participation in activities involving physical skill and regulated by set rules or customs in which an individual or a team competes against another or others.” It is clear now that dance definitely fulfills all of these requirements.
Some studies have reported that adolescents use popular music to deal with loneliness and to take control of their emotional status or mood,” (Impact of Music, Music Lyrics, and Music Videos on Children and Youth). Similar to Mildred, studies show that many kids spend a lot of time listening to music. Mildred rarely took out her seashells out of her ears, she was always listening to the music. Children are also showing signs of relying on music to pass the time and hide their negative feelings about life or the hard situations that they may find themselves in. “A study with 100 fourth- through sixth-graders revealed that 98% of these children listened to popular music, 72% of them on “most days” or every day. Furthermore, it has been reported that children 8 to 10 years of age listen to music an average of 1 hour per day,” (Impact of Music, Music Lyrics, and Music Videos on Children and Youth). This takes away from the time they could spend with their families, friends, or other jobs they are responsible for. Mildred is known for not spending time on a variety of activities, she mainly just listens to music and watches the parlor walls. Music seems to have a significant effect on the variety of activities the person participates in; children and young people nowadays seem to
This website talks about how dance qualifies as a sport. Aubree James believes that dance is a sport and talks about actual evidence that qualifies dance as a sport. Comparing dance to the legal definitions that defines a sport dance is considered a sport. I can use this in my article because it's evidence nobody can dismiss when arguing this subject."Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in
In one my classes; Dance Appreciation, I had an assignment to view a dance piece on YouTube. The dance that I viewed was called “She without arm, he without leg, Hand in Hand”. The dance was not only informative, but it was enlightening to watch.
The group that I have chosen to identify with is the Franklin and Marshall Dance Company. The company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or reconstruction works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert. Each spring, the students have the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student choreographed pieces either presented in the concert, which runs for three days, or in the Show case, held only on a Sunday. During the spring choreography, each choreographer contends with the corresponding choreographers to secure a spot in the concert, which galvanizes competition, hostility, and tension. Conclusively, however, akin to any other campus organization, we, the members of the company, share solidarity with each other with regards to certain ideas and acceptable behaviors.
For this particular activity, I planned a music session with the children in order to provide them the opportunity to play various instruments and sing along with the songs. I placed the basket full of musical instruments in the middle of the circle of children and put on a CD’s of children songs and encouraged the children to pick one to play with. Everyone eagerly grabbed their favorite instrument and began playing along with the music. As, we have listened to this CD before, they were quickly singing and dancing along with the music. The youngest girl I watch had the idea to pretend to be a ballerina and asked me if it would be okay to put on some
There are various types of dances. However, in many forms, tap and jazz dances are very popular because they include diversified styles. In the 19th century, these dancers began to form and develop in the United States. Unlike the other dances, tap dance and jazz dance are blended from different dance forms. They are considered as the arts, and reflect American cultures as well.
Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold danced the Argentine Tango to “Brother” by NEEDTOBREATHE and it was definitely my favorite piece. My knee-jerk reaction was that the choreography was extremely creative and well thought out and perfectly tuned to the song. This dance was the epitome of the phrase,“Less is More.” The costuming, stage, and everything was extremely stripped down and simple leaving just the dancers to prove their skills. No theatrics or ornate stage design to cover up lack of technique. This dance definitely proves itself to be a semifinalist dance. They moved gracefully and smoothly transitioned throughout the dance making use of the whole stage executing the moves almost perfectly while showcasing their skills and a little more
Dance is significant to our society; the aspects of Modern/Contemporary Dance have adjusted the viewpoint of the society to view it as a perpetual embryonic form of art. The evaluation exhibited in this document will contain concise interpretations of the pieces performed by the "Mark Morris Dance Group", followed by a comprehensive examination of the pieces "A Forest", "Pure Dance Items", "Serenade", and "Dancing Honeymoon."
The subsidies government provides are not for the preservation of the particular communities, but for documentation. It is acceptable that such communities flourish or die even with funding. The documenting process may be undertaken by one of the community itself, with unregulated bias, in the form of art, cultural symbols, literature, performance. This list is not extensive, more may fall into it, but must all fit the category of tangible. Therefore if its a dance or recipe, it must be recorded in some fashion. A dance may be presented, and with modern day technology with the performers approval, such act could be filmed and posted online. Such methods allow mass viewership, therefore can be used as an educative tool, as well as others can
