Many people know Taylor Swift as the fun and adorable semi-pop and semi-country singer, but many people did not expect her recent letter towards Apple. What spawned her unexpected outspoken response? Apple decided to give users of iTunes a three-month trial period for their newest streaming system. What was the catch? Well, for customers, there wasn’t one. We simply got three free months of great music that we chose. However, for musicians, Swift saw a large injustice.
Apple’s policies states that the musicians whose music would be used in this three-month trial would not be given any sort of royalties during the promotional period. Swift decided this was not right, and that the policy needed to change. Therefore, she wrote a long and very

This article discusses the scandal Justin Bieber was involved in with Mariah Yeater back in 2011. She had been said to be the main focus of the song due to her accusations of being impregnated by music artist, Justin Bieber. The theme of this song also highly resembles Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” not just by the way it sounds, but from the outlook of the situation. Each song incorporates a problem with a girl who is in search of their attention. Some think it’s for the money or fame but Justin later states in the song how she might not even be after any of that. Maybe all this time she just wanted him to like her.
After being condemned to state mental institution, it was believed that it was necessary for Carrie Buck to be sexually sterilized; the mental disease which she had acquired originated three generation back and had also been present in each of those three generations. This was the basis on which this suggestion was made. In Virginia state, it was legal to carry this action out on the grounds that it " promoted the health of the patient and the welfare of society." (www.oyez.org) Before the sterilization could occur, however, a hearing would have been heard and approved/disapproved by the court.
Throughout our Communication Studies, we have examined the capitalist economy through a critical lens and as a result, corporations always appear at the forefront of debate, blame, and power. From a neo-liberalist economic standpoint, the typical “prosumer” is encouraged to create consumer-generated content, but what happens when you put your creative labour to the test? York University consistently advocates, “this is your time”; in other words, students are responsible for their own success and are held liable for any failures or mishaps they may endure. While contemporary technologies have multiplied and democratized opportunities for musical creativity, intellectual property law has been used to repress our right to free speech, which is guaranteed under the first amendment (Demers 2006). Therefore, the industry’s effort at convincing people that file-sharing is equivalent to thievery have turned an increasing number of artists into intellectual property activists.

In musical superstar Taylor Swift’s music video for her song “Blank Space,” she is portraying herself as the high maintenance and dramatic girlfriend that the media believes she is. The speaker of this text is the media’s perception of Taylor Swift and her message is about the disconnect between who Swift really is and who the media sees her as. I believe Swift has two purposes for this music video. One is for her character in the music video to warn her audience about the type of love that boys want, and the other for real life Taylor herself to poke holes into the media’s concept of her love life. The video is filled with satire and paradoxes to convince us that our idea of Taylor Swift is not an accurate opinion of her.

The evolution of the music industry follows the familiar pattern of digitization. Innovation began with the introduction of the vinyl record, transitioned from the cassette tape to the compact disc and landed us in an era of digital downloads. The emergence of music streaming services like Spotify has progressed the industry even further, giving consumers the ability to access music on demand using download-free online platforms. Spotify faces criticism from artists as a result of the overlap of creativity and commerce. They argue that business activities corrupt creativity, transforming it into a tool for profitability rather than an outlet for expression. Artists insist that Spotify deters album sales, favors established artists and fails to support them financially. However, Spotify was created for consumers. It delivers an accessible alternative to purchasing and downloading music. The interplay between creativity and commerce is changing the nature of the music industry. Spotify has adapted to this change, providing a platform that supports both artists and consumers. Through analysis of the market, artist’s revenue, record labels and consumers, I will argue that artists should accept the evolution of the industry and support Spotify.
