Life expectancy in the human race has risen dramatically in the past century reaching its highest level for both male and female on record. Between 1981 and 2002 life expectancy at age 50 increases by four and a half years for men and three years for women and two years respectively. By 2002 women who were age of 65 could expect to live to the age of 84 while men could expect to live to the age of 81.

In early April 2013 a measles outbreak was discovered in North Carolina. By mid-May the outbreak had been identified in Stokes and Orange Counties via 23 active cases. Every case was linked back to a family that had spent 3 months in India and had not been vaccinated. By the 16th of April the state laboratory of Public Health was able to confirm the diagnosis, with the last known case being confirmed on May 7th. The investigation of this outbreak revealed 4 patients with a confirmed diagnosis that had received one of vaccination of the two part series. The other 19 cases had not ever been vaccinated.

Health Promotion This is the process of allowing people to have more control over their health as this will help improve their health and well-being. In this report I will be investigating how care services meet the needs of individuals by firstly analysing the needs of an individual using care services. Then I will go on to explain the roles of the care planning process in identifying needs, and explain the features of a positive care practise. After explaining that, I will analysis positive care environments and evaluate how they meet needs before finally explaining the role of legislation in promoting a positive care environment.

This assignment will present a nursing care study of a patient on a cardiac ward. The patient will be referred to as Ann to maintain confidentiality (NMC, 2008).
