The nation’s bigot community has been in hysterics over the past few months after Target announced that it would allow transgender people to use the restroom and fitting rooms that correspond with their gender identities.
Over one million people have signed an online petition, organized by the evangelical American Family Association, calling for a boycott of Target. The anti-LGBT quasi-hate group explains that all a man needs to do or say to gain entry into a women’s restroom is that he "feels like a woman today.”
“Target's policy is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims. And with Target publicly boasting that men can enter women's bathrooms, where do you think predators are going to go? Clearly, Target's dangerous new policy poses a danger to wives

There is the man who followed a woman into the lady’s room a few weeks ago to check her gender because she was ‘dressed like a man,’ and the lesbian who was forced out of the restroom by police for failing to prove she’s a woman. And in recent news, men of the American Family Association are now hanging out in women’s restrooms at Target.
“I think there’s no question that when you say that there are no barriers in the bathroom,” says Sandy Rios, Director of Government Affairs at AFA. “And that if men or women feel like they are...the opposition of however they are equipped, and you have no restrictions, the net effect will be that people will not be stopped. We’ve already had people testing this, going into Targets and men trying to go into bathrooms. There is absolutely no barrier.”
So the American Family Association is sending straight men, (some of which may be perverts and/or predators) within close proximity of little
In a statement, target had announced that the transgender bathroom policy was implemented to make everyone feel that they belong to the community. The company also explained that the policy was not a new one, but it was just a “restatement” of an existing policy.
AFA met with Target top officials and recommended the company to provide for unisex bathrooms for transgender people, in addition to male and female restrooms already being provided. But Target did not agree with AFA's suggestion.
Protests and boycotts were made and Target was put on the offensive to meet with gay activists. They promoted their diversity inclusiveness intensely and eventually the backlash was diminished (la times). From the events in 2010, Target has reached number 25 on DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies in Diversity (DiversityInc, 2015). Target has also reached a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign's 2015 Corporate Equality Index (Target, 2015). While most consumers will still shop at Target whether another event like the anti-gay contributions, Target has really changed how the public perceives them as a whole.
Target is representative of gendered spaces, because Target has many regions within itself that cater to a specific sex. This makes Target a gendered space, because a gendered space is a space in which it is only appropriate for one sex to occupy. An example of a gendered space in Target would be the feminine care aisle, because all the products in that aisle are for females. This makes the feminine care aisle a gendered space, because most people find it inappropriate or weird for males to occupy the feminine care aisle. In American culture, people believe that it is only appropriate for females to occupy the feminine care aisle.
Target has always maintained a great reputation. I enjoy shopping at Target because the store is always neat and the lines are not as long as Walmart. Although they are more expensive, I will pay more. I agree that poor performance can damage a company’s reputation. Do you feel with the latest boycott where transgender customers in its stores can to use the bathroom and changing rooms that align with their gender identity will have an effect on their reputation and will cause loyal customers to not do business with
There is a long history of social groups being repressed within the United States of America. With an ever-changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social groups appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences of this has been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a same-sex couple. After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to attention. One of the more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT community in accordance to public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use whichever bathroom that matches with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the rights that accompany them is constantly being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden movement, social issues are sparking outrage and debate on whether this argument should be implemented into society. This issue has dominated the media and has caused chaos on both sides of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should not be able to use whatever bathroom they please.
Target has finally admitted its mistake in the transgender bathroom policy issue, but only said it was wrong to announce its long-held policy to the public via a blog post.
Cisgender advocates who have long attacked the ramparts of social structures have declared this particular battle in the long war against Gender-with-a-capital-G a hard-win victory. And as an added bonus, members of the transgender community, who have been long constructed as vulnerable targets in such spaces, can now feel assured of their safety. With the minimum of space, a lock on the inside of the door and the right public-accommodation policies in place, no one will be able to just barge in and react violently coming across a man or a woman of transgender experience doing…well, doing what anyone else does in a bathroom.
In recent years, Target Corp. has made the headlines with its involvement in LGBT awareness and equality. Target removed its “boys” and “girls” labels on the toys and clothing department and, most recently, made its bathroom gender neutral.
While some cities and states prohibit gender-based discrimination, federal nondiscrimination laws do not cover sex or gender identity. A person using a restroom that does not agree with their gender can be arrested for trespassing, making it a formal form of social control as well. That is to
My adversary was clearly uncomfortable with the idea of a woman like me in the men’s room; at the same time he did not want to budge from his talking point that people like me shouldn’t be allowed in the women’s room, either, because he was convinced that we constitute some sort of threat to children. In the end, he didn’t have an answer for the question, because the idea that I am human — and do occasionally need to use the restroom — was really not one that had given him much
The line between hate and dislike is a rather thin one to say the least. The policy change debate—of which, if I may say, no one was invited to—of the private corporation that is the Target store franchise, is one that should not, and cannot be remarked upon by anyone in public office. There was an article last week regarding the possibility of Texas adopting a statewide bathroom policy that would require people to use the latrine that corresponds to their gender at birth.
Recently Target has become the center of a huge controversial debate because of their bold move to change their bathroom policy to allow transgender people to use whichever restroom that they psychologically identify with. While some customers are jumping for joy and cheering on this new policy change, others are outraged and threatening to boycott Target stores across America.
When approaching public restrooms, most look at the gender on the door that associates with their own gender. However, some stare at those labels wondering which one they belong in. These types of people are often referred to as transgenders. Transgenders are people who identify themselves with the opposite gender of their biological sex. Therefore, for this category of people, entering a restroom is not so easy. They often wonder whether they should go into the bathroom of their biological sex or of their gender identity. The debate has spread throughout America today. Transgender bathrooms have been discussed in politics, education, and even criminal cases. Both sides of the debate offer valid evidence to support their claims. The only compensation
Despite popular belief, integrating transgender people into public environments reportedly brings about no harm to the general public - instead, transgenders are the ones at risk. The issue is getting so much attention that people are advertising about it. An advertisement featured in several popular Minnesota state newspapers received aggressive backlash from consumers due to condemning young transwomen for joining girls’ sports teams at school, claiming them to be ‘men’ who intended to harm their teammates. The
