For how tall she was quite the athlete. She was shy, quiet, and humble. Though athletic and quiet, she was smart in both education and common sense, or as she liked to call it, everyday knowledge. She came from a mixed family of athletes and brainiacs. She was a middle child. For her age, many admired her skills and forcing push to explore farther, dig deeper, and imagine bigger. DJ had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Her sisters were twins and were 3 years old. Their names were Sam and Mack. Her brothers were Kyle, Caspian, and Wolfgang. Kyle was 1 year younger than DJ, but Caspian was 14 and Wolfgang was 16. DJ was 12 but quite pretty for her age. There was going to a Def Leppard concert on Friday night. DJ had always been their biggest fan. She had shirts for each of their albums, shorts with the Def Leppard logo on the bottom, hats, earrings, bags, and so on. She had 42 autographs by them and never missed a concert when they came to their city. Since they always went to her city, she always went to their concert. But …show more content…
Her dad was a contracts manager for the pulp and paper company, ABB. The family was well-mannered, well-educated, healthy, and always made at least an effort to look nice. DJ liked wearing her hat backwards. It was her style. For that reason, she was a tomboy. DJ was going with her BFF, Carly, and 2 other boys from her math class, Carter and Eddie. Being a tomboy meant she always wore sneakers, t-shirt, shorts, and a hat. She always wore hoop earrings and a watch because she wanted a little more to her style. Her hair was hazelnut brown and straight, down to the bottom of her shoulder blades, and her shape was slim but tall. This concert, though, had changed one of her personalities. That was being quiet and shy. Her enthusiasm broke the barrier of shyness and let through to a world of loud and fun. She was confident and goofy from then

Her unusual upbringing was brought upon her so she didn’t turn out like her father. Her father was a poet, the famous George Gordon Byron. Unlike her father who studied poetry, she studied math and science. Her mother thought it would prevent her from having a moody temperament. Her mother even went as far as force her to lay still for certain amounts of time to gain self-control.
She liked for things to go her way, and if things did not, she would get very upset. She acted as if the world revolved around her, and that it was everyone’s responsibility to make sure she was happy. As the story progresses, she slowly begins to get in tune with her emotions and begins to mature as a young
She was the know-it-all, the bookworm, a goody-two-shoes, the girl who religiously followed the rules and many more things,
For a long time, she lived in a "basement house" [they built the basement, but then they ran out of money, so they just lived in the basement]. Her dad died when she was almost 4 years old, so she & her siblings had to do a lot to help out around the "house". She learned to cook when she was 7, & she didn’t get her first TV until she was 5. She also had a dog called "Stinky Poo" who ate corn on the cob with her front paws.
She grew up in a small farming community in Iowa. She lived with both of her parents and her older brother. She is the youngest child. She reported having a good relationship with all of her family members. Her parents farmed, so she spent a lot of time helping on the farm as well. She reported not knowing of any money problems growing up. Her parents are and always have supported her in whatever she has wanted to do. She still gets together with her
She was only fourteen, but could carry herself with a confident, fear-inspiring aura that you would only expect from some Amazon warrior. I found that this posture went along quite well with her two favorite hobbies—martial arts and knife throwing. (You know, normal teenage girl stuff.) These traits almost made her complaints seem like a politician raising pressing issues rather than some nasally voice teenager.
I was a very short person to play basketball. From the time I started play basketball I always change the techniques, we were taught to make it easier for me to do. This resulted in me coming into high school with terrible shooting form. I used my legs way too much, I shot from my hip, and my elbow was always pointed outwards. My summer basketball coach worked with me my whole summer going into my junior year to get me to bring my elbow in when shooting. This allowed my to get my shot off quicker, get more power from my upper body, and to be more constant with my shot. It also allowed me to use less energy each time I had a jump shot.
So you want to be a pro athlete? Being an pro takes commitment, practice, and persistence. You train for years and sometimes you fail. Some big names in college or high school sometimes fail at performing in their respective pro leagues or in college. Training is an part of the commitment. As Derek Jeter said “There may be more people that are better than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” Training isn’t just for physical abilities. Mental training is also important because it’s easier to beat yourself up from a, loss than to say oh well I’ll try again or what John Madden said “The road to easy street goes through the sewer.”
Along with some of the athletes who have excelled, there are many athletes around the country who have become extremely well known and talented in not just sports but grades! Basketball star Michael Jordan graduated with a 3.6 GPA. Track and field athlete Carl Lewis on average has a 3.77 GPA. Track star Sanya Richards was in Honors Society and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Football player Peyton Manning on average has a 3.61 GPA. All of these athletes have been extremely successful and they were able to keep their grades up! No longer should focusing on sports be a valid excuse for having bad grades. These stars were required to have good grades in order to play the sports they enjoyed so much and became so good at.
Before this concert, I was not sure what to expect from a singer/song writer who was straight out of college, but Liz exceeded my expectations. Liz showed me something no other concert has yet to show me, that no matter what is going on in your life you can put time and effort into something you truly care about and you will learn something from it. This concert did make me want to attend more singer/songwriter concerts in the future at Millersville because it brings a different perspective into your life and allows you to reflect on things you have experienced or learned about. Liz had such as positive attitude about an industry you may struggle in if you are not “popular,” making it the most positive part of the performance. I did not really
In 1975, after his retirement from the NFL, David Kopay was the first major professional athlete of a team sport to come out as a homosexual. Very few have followed after Kopay’s example, but based on the percentages of individuals who identify as a member of the LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) community, including those who have both come out and those who have not, it is assumed that 5% to 10% of NFL players are “closeted” and have not come out as homosexual (Garber, 1999). It is a common theme to see athletes, especially those who are part of a team sport, come out once they enter retirement, as opposed to sometime during their career. In fact, 2014 was the year Michael Sam became the first
