Taking a Look at Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is as described by Wikipedia as the illegal trade in humans for the use of sexual exploitation or forced labor.

A major factor that plays into the extreme increase of human trafficking is globalization and an economic unbalance across nations. Inequality across countries has played a large factor in the expanding of human trafficking as an import and export business. Countries that are suffering from poverty are profiting greatly from the illegal industry of human trafficking

Human Trafficking is the illegal buying and selling of people to either become domestic workers or forced into illegal prostitution. It is also a violation of basic human rights, because the individual has no personal freedom. Women and children are the primary targets for this industry and typically the victims are forced into illegal slave trade. Human trafficking is a violation of human rights and it is among one of the most horrendous crimes against humanity, forced labor and forced prostitution is the common uses for these people that were lured in by traffickers.

There are endless reasons that human trafficking exists in modern times. These reasons are not black and white, and have a multitude of contributing factors, cause and effect, and influences. Human trafficking is known worldwide as the modern-day form of slavery. According to several sources, 20-30 million people are currently enslaved or trafficked all around the world. This includes groups of people or individuals being held against their will. Human trafficking can be described as the use of force or fraud in order to gain control over another person. Over time, the wicked problem has grown exponentially due to the supply and demand of things. By spreading awareness and facts, human trafficking, as a wicked problem, could be controlled in the future.

Human trafficking is the trade of humans by force, mainly women and female children, for the purposes of sexual slavery, sexual exploitation, and domestic labor. Global human trafficking has often been labeled as modern- day slavery; however the history and causes have been identifiable just as the causes of traditional slavery have been. What causes human trafficking? In this present paper, the hypotheses on the primary causes of global human trafficking will be identified. There are three major themes that cause human trafficking: a nation’s economy, political and legal factors, and social factors that enable the continuance of human trafficking. According to previous research indications of historical influence and social hierarchy have the greatest impact on the causes of human trafficking; these topics will further be elaborated upon during the discussions of political influences and social factors that impact human trafficking.

Human trafficking and smuggling has been in existence across the world for thousands of years. While both of these issues deserve equal public awareness, they are very different from one another. The United Nations office reveals consent, exploitation and transnationality are the most important differences ("United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime." Web). From ancient Greek to medieval times, up until today, both physical and sexual slavery is commonly used. Humans all over the world are trapped in lives of enigma, beaten and mistreated until eventually forced to work under extreme measures to illegally and unwillingly provide for others. From illicitly bringing drugs in and out of different countries, to transporting and controlling humans actions and whereabouts, the smuggling industry has taken a big toll on the US ("Timeline of Human Trafficking." There are two different beliefs to which human trafficking originates from. One side claims that it all started through the slave trade where Africans were taken hostage by slave traders and brought into America. Others state that human trafficking originally began during the 1700s of children forced labor. Human trafficking is a problem in all countries, but developing countries holds the biggest concern. There is a larger percentage of people living in poverty with various types of conflicts and obstacles at developing countries compared to other areas. People whose path are under the state of indigence often try to seek a way to survive, and are generally lured into the human trafficking industry, however there are also victims which were forced to enter. Domestic, Foreign, and International are the three different categorizations of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is an illegal trade with people. It is mostly women from the African continent, and from the countries in Eastern Europe (Baltikum). Its purpose is to make a commercial business on sexual prostitutions, or cheap labour, which the only goal is to make money on poor and low educated people.

Human Trafficking is just another form of modern day slavery where the victims are forced to do labour or sexual exploitation. Many young girls and women dream of having a better life. So, they travel across the ocean to other countries that would offer them better opportunities. They dream of being financially able to help themselves and their families as well. However, they have never imagine that their dream would be shattered by human trafficking. They have never imagined that they would go through modern slavery/ human trafficking. Human trafficking is not a new topic, it is spread all over the world. In other word, human trafficking is a global phenomenon and also a criminal act. It has become one of the fastest growing criminal acts.

Human trafficking is the exchange of human beings worldwide. As devastating as it is, human trafficking has been taking place since the United States was granted freedom from Britian. Everyone from the African Americans, children, women, and grown men have been victims of this color-blind crime.

When we think about slavery, we think those days are long behind us. We think about the 19th century when people used others to do their labor in exchange for shelter and food. What we don’t realize, however, is that the act of slavery is still a very prevalent issue today, under the name of human trafficking. Human traffickers are those who victimize others in their desire to profit from the existing demand. People of all ages, even children, are recruited and taken from all around the world and forced into acts such as prostitution, war, and extreme labor. Many people are not aware of these events occurring at all, and more awareness needs to be brought to this topic.

Human Trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes that operate over transnational boundaries. The act of human trafficking is highlighted as a criminalized activity according to the article 5 of the Trafficking in Persons Protocol set out by United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime. While Human Trafficking is generally attributed to the Less Developed Countries. This is because the socio economic dynamics along with weaker law and order situation provide a strong environment for this activity to take place. That said the developed countries have an equally important role to play in the prevalence of Human Trafficking.
