Brief History:
A global juggernaut Multinational Telecommunication company Vodafone headquartered in London, UK is the world 's 2nd-largest mobile telecommunications company. Vodafone operates networks in 21 countries and has partner networks in over 40 additional countries with over 430 mil customers worldwide. This company has come a long way when it started on 1 January 1985 with a significant presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Vodafone in Australia:
Vodafone Hutchison Australia is the result of merging between Vodafone and Hutchison ,after setting up in Australia Vodafone was able to secure 27% customer percentage in the country making it third largest telecomm company . It was formed on 10 June 2009. Their first priority was getting the organization and the organizational structure sorted out.

As of late 2004, Verizon is already considered the world's largest telecommunication company with annual revenue of $67.8 billion. Their continued plans are leading toward acquisition and development of fiber technology, which will allow it to offer cable TV services. Apparently they are still apprehensive regarding business customer and plan to extend add-ons again into the private sector, which worked for them in 2003.
As described in figure 1, The strengths and weaknesses of the SWOT analysis are internal factors , and can be controlled directly by the organisation. Elliot, Rundle-Thiele, and Waller (2010) describes these strengths and weaknesses as those attributes of the organisation that can help or hinder in achieving its objectives. The telecommunications coverage in rural and regional areas in Australia has monopolistic characteristics. Telstra has a competitive advantage over Optus with 99.3% coverage of the population compared to Optus with a 98.5%, this is equivalent to an estimated 192,000 more potential customers. Although Telstra has this competitive advantage they claim that the revenue received from their rural base stations does not cover the cost of development and maintenance.3.
