Dreamworld’s owners, Ardent Leisure has developed a park that has accounted for all difficulties of sustainability despite the location and size of the amusement park. Dreamworld is a theme park situated in Coomera, near the east coast of Queensland. Due to its isolation, it is imperative to have effective sustainability methods to reserve the resources expended by the park’s energy demanding attractions. Sustainability will be the issue brought to light in this report, and a new ride will be implemented with all of the characteristics of being economically, environmentally and socially responsible. The management of the ride will be investigated in the report, including the legislations that govern sustainability.

Sustainability With the increase in global warming, sustainability and resilience plays a very important role. Sustainability is usually defined as meeting “the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Hudson 2013). Resilience is the ability of a system to withstand disturbances and continue to function in a sustainable manner (Tagtow et al., 2014). The office of sustainability brings the SF State community together to work towards a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient campus. The three main areas which I got attracted to, as a dietetic student are as follows: Energy efficiency: SF State is focused on reducing energy use on campus and procuring renewable energy and it has surpassed its goal of reducing overall energy use by 15% by 2010 as compared to 2003.

The most commonly used definition of sustainable development is still that given in the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development (1987), i.e. sustainable development is ‘a process to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’ Sustainable development is therefore about creating a better life for all people in ways that will be as viable in the future as they are at present. In other words, sustainable development is based on principles of sound husbandry of the world’s resources, and on equity in the way those resources are used and in the way in which the benefits obtained from them are distributed (Making Tourism More Sustainable, 2005).

Sustainability is “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations” (Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future 1987). The concept of sustainability comprises of four pillars: environmental; economic; political and social; as can be seen in the image below. Environmental sustainability is the use and management of the environment in a way that it does not deplete our finite resources. Economic sustainability is a long term sustainable economy that supports its community and political sustainability is the collaboration of different bodies of government to achieve a sustainable future. Now social sustainability is hard to define as it encapsulates many different factors; however to be very broad it is to achieve social justice. The real objective for sustainability is that all four pillars work together equally in a precautionary principle;

Urbanization, which is becoming a buzzword during the last few decades, is enlarging at a booming speed. It is predicted that 93 percents urban growth will occur to the year 2020, in the developing world (Elliot J.A, 1999). Generally speaking, more than half of the people around the world have been moved to cities, which led to a series of “matters” connected with people’s life that changed in a dramatical way. In this period, sustainable development, another buzzword during the past few years, came into people’s view and gradually became the mainstream of society development. Sustainable development means that the present generations should be able to make use of resources to live better lives in such a manner that it does not compromise the ability of future generations. For sustainable development to occur, there needs to be sustainable economic, ecological and community development. Society needs to be educated about ways in which they can use resources, especially natural, in such a manner that it does not cause harm to the environment and put future generations lives at risk.

The concept of sustainable development has become a major topic among intellectuals from various fields. Sustainable development has gone through various changes in its definitions and at present does not have a commonly accepted definition. The origination of the concept of sustainable development is debatable. In 1974 at a conference on Science and Technology for Human Development by the World Council of Churches the concept of a “sustainable society” is believed to have been first noted. In the United States, we consume more energy from oil than from any other energy source. In 2014 the total amount of petroleum consumed in the United States was about 19 million barrels per day. As we look into making the world a more eco friendly environment, I ask the question; what are some alternatives of oil and the effects of the alternative.

From the very beginning of 19th century, what most industrial company searching for is basically manufacturing processes that can help them to reduce production cost and produce good quality product in terms of, for instance desired size and shape and surface quality. In addition, the sustainable issue which is concerning on three major aspect such as environment, economy and social, gain a positive response from the whole world. A number of profit or non-profit organizations, international or regional organizations take part in to support this issue. For example, United Nations, an intergovernmental organization who is committed to preserving peace through international cooperation, held UN Sustainable Development Summit 2015 [1], where countries have opportunity to contribute in taking actions to end poverty, conserve environment and reduce inequalities. On account of achieving these goals, everyone needs to get involved here.

Sustainability development has three components: environment, society, and economy. If you consider the three to be overlapping circles of the same size, the area of overlap in the center is human well-being. As the environment, society, and economy become more aligned, the area of overlap increases, and so does human well-being. Therefore, education for sustainable development (ESD) is the use of education as a tool to achieve sustainability. Simply put, ESD is a way to make the world a safer, healthier, and more livable place for us and future generations (McKeown, 2002, pgs 7-9).

Sustainable development is defined in many methods, but the official definition is explained through Our Common Future: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It contains two key concepts: the concept of needs, in particular the essential needs of the world 's poor, to which overriding priority should be given; and the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organization on the environment 's ability to meet present and future needs.” From my point of view, there are three key points existing in this explanation: the needs of each class in the society, the limitation of development as well as the demands of present and future generation. These three points will be analyzed in detail below.

Environmental problems are something which belongs to nature or known as “Mother Earth” [13]. Nature was created to help people survive from gathering foods until build a house. This phenomenon happens continuously without thinking how much damage that nature has because human’s fault. Nature gradually becomes worse and animal’s life in danger. People who are aware of the importance of nature react. Those people do several ways to save the environment. Although these efforts can return back the environment, these efforts only can be hold temporarily.
