In Susan Glaspell’s A Jury of Her Peers, she writes a clue seeking story of how the sheriff will find enough evidence to charge Minnie Wright of the murder of her husband John. The story starts off with Mr. Hale telling his story of how he went over to the Wright’s only to learn Mr. Wright was dead. The story then focuses on the two women Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, as they discover more and more evidence in the kitchen while they are gathering things to take to Minnie Wright in jail. Glaspell uses character conflict, and plot to help guide the reader into a story about moral conflict. Hale to tell his story of how he went over to the Wright’s house on the previous day. Mr. hale then nervously began to tell his story while his wife Mrs. Hale hoped he wouldn’t mix the story up like he usually does with other stories. He explains how he was driving past the Wright’s and he wanted them to install a party line telephone for their houses so it would be cheaper in price for him. When Mr. Hale entered the house, Minnie Wright was in her rocking chair and asked if he could speak to her husband John. She replied to Mr. Hale by saying he was there, but he could not speak with John because he was dead. Mr. Hale went to their bedroom to find John Wright there dead, he was strangled to death. Henderson then tells Mrs. Peters that she can take clothes and some other things to Minnie in jail, but he tells her to keep an eye out for any evidence. Mr. Hale immediately says that Mrs. Peters probably would not know any evidence if she found any. The men go upstairs and Mrs. Hale says she is unhappy that they would criticize Minnie’s kitchen while she was not there, but Mrs. Peters insures Mrs. Hale that they are doing their job. As the women gather her clothes Mrs. Hale asks Mrs. Peters if she thinks Minnie is guilty of her husband’s murder. They discuss the strangeness of John’s death and Mrs. Hale said there was a gun in the house, why did the murderer did choose not to use the gun
