Supporters argue that U.S. law gives both legal and illegal immigrants basically the same constitutional protections as U.S. citizens. The vast majority of rights in our constitution apply to “all persons” and just a handful apply to only citizens. Non-citizens do not have the right to habeas corpus, which is the right to a judge or attorney. Those in favor of rights for non-citizens turn to the fourteenth amendment. Supporters agree that persons citizens and noncitizens should be granted basic equal rights according to our constitution.

Australian multi-millionaire and property mogul Tim Gurner made a controversial claim on the Australian television show 60 Minutes, that purchasing avocado toast may be one of the reasons why millennials cannot afford a house.
In the article, Linguistic demands of the oral directions for administering the WISC-IV and WISC-V, the authors explain that studies say the linguistic capacity of children should be considered when choosing and interpreting cognitive tests. Students in Canada are being tested using the WISC-IV and WISC-V, when many of them are not proficient in English. A study was conducted to determine if the WISC-IV and WISC-V linguistic factors were affecting the overall performance on the test. The test makers claimed that the WISC-V comes with reduced vocabulary and simplified directions, but it was unseen by the administers. Although Pearson claims to have these modifications, the Cultural-Language Interpretive Matrix (C-LIM) was created to decide if
There is a controversial issue in America, and that issue is on gun control. One side wants to tighten down on the gun control laws. While the other side wants to leave gun control be or loosen it up. These two sides are the democrats and the republicans. In this essay, I will be comparing the many differences between the republican view on gun control and the democrat view on gun control.
Treason is a political crime committed against a state or government to which the person charged with treason owes a duty of allegiance. The dictionary defines treason as a violation of allegiance toward one’s country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of ones country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies. The men signing the declaration of independence were aware of the risk they ran of committing treason against the British king. The value that defense remained to be determined in a civil war. In civil wars, every man chooses his party, but generally that side with prevails arrogates the right of treating those who are vanquished as rebels. In the weeks preceding the Declaration of Independence,
Within the last couple of decades, technology has become a huge part in everyone’s daily lives. Everyday we look at our phone almost every five minutes and when we get home we all hop on some other form of technology such as our computers or televisions. However, this is almost exactly what Aldous Huxley and Neil Postman fear. There are some truths and some falsehoods to the statements that Postman proposed such as the idea that we will begin to enjoy our oppression, we will be ruled by the very things that we love, and that we will eventually be thrown so many lies that we will seize to know what the truth is and we will be exploring both sides of these assertions.
about their basic rights as immigrants in the U.S. U.S. immigrants must realize that even though their stay in the U.S. maybe temporary they still have many of the basic rights that U.S. citizens have. Undocumented immigrants do have legal rights under the U.S. Constitution and federal statute. As far back as 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that: “The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution is not confined to the protection of citizens. It says: ‘Nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within
During the "Get tough" era and the "war on Drugs" era of the late 1970's through the early 1990's, the rise of women offenders that were incarcerated was nothing short of meteoric. In 1979, one in 10 women in prison was doing time for drugs. Today, drug offenders account for more than a third of the female prison population (37.4 percent).( Chesney-Lind 1998) Therefore, the population of women being convicted of these crimes are women who would not have been incarcerated anyway (Dr. Wendy Williams personal communication 2018).
Would you or someone you care bout want to die a slow painful death. Well I would hope not. There are many harmful chemicals such as nicotine which is a highly addictive drug in cigarettes. As soon as you stick the cigarette in your mouth you have nicotine in your system and it can reach the brain in under 6 seconds and cause brain damage. This is only one reason out of thousands why smoking should be illegal.
MSTT spoke with Christine and Jake on the phone because Jake had just returned home from Valley Youth House and they had begun to get into a verbal altercation.
A Bandwagon Appeals is when the audience is believing to an argument that is accurate and the crowd is also agreeing to the argument. The image I chose was a Subway advertising and it demonstrates that going to subway will help a customer to lose weight. There will be more customers at Subway because they got inspired by the man who lost weight and wants to experience the same way as the man
I believe the Allies, as well as the rest of the world wanted to punish the real creators of the horrors the Holocaust was, as well as moving the world forward. Like you said, many tensions between countries, such as Soviet Union and the western Europe was a new item to the world agenda that needed to be acknowledged. I believe the Allies, specially the U.S., were trying to prevent a new World War. Great insight!
While I have laid out the arguments for both sides of the Citizens United debate, I believe that the ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States undermines the democracy that the Founders intended to install and should be reversed by a future court that clearly realizes that millionaires shouldn’t be able to buy elections. The high court practically changed American politics for the worse. Until the law is reversed we will continue to live in a country where if a corporation out in California has a profound hate for your local representative in Maine, that corporation can unleash an unlimited amount of money in super PACs to defeat your representative. To me this is wrong. The Citizens United ruling inadequately portrays the form
"The fact is within poker, each time you shuffle the deck, it produces a component of luck that surpasses it essentially to being far more a chance-dominated game than a skill-dominated game," stated King.
The type of opposing argument that has been the most difficult to refute or encounter was on trying to put enough information into the outline to have on the final essay. Also on trying to find good enough sources that relate to the topic that I was doing. I strategized this aspect on my paper by mostly getting help for the outline from my individual tutor. I also got some help from the tutor on trying to find good sources or I eventually found some useful sources to use. I basically just got help for the outline and sources that I was struggling with from the tutor or I eventually understood it.
