In the article San Francisco nudges homeless people away from super bowl fan village by Alison Vekshin, Bloomberg News, adapted by Newsela staff 01.28.15, it infers us about the upcoming gatherings or parties due to this years Super Bowl which will infact be held here in the state of California. In this article it also infers to the audience or me specifically about how San Francisco California is not only one of the hottest spots in America right now due to its upcoming event(s) but they also tell us about the wide range of homeless people that live in this area. Unfortunately since the Super Bowl is being held in this area, as January 30th they have started to begin placing these homeless individuals in other cities hoping that they draw
Just caught the tail end of the Steelers win in the Super Bowl against the Cardinals, shown on the NFL Network. It's hard to convince me that the throw from Ben and catch by Santonio Holmes is not the best ever. Especially, under the circumstances. To win the Superbowl on that play, still amazes
When you see someone that is different than you what do you think? Well the story, “Ezekiel Johnson” by Walter Dean Myers and the National Football League Super Bowl LI, both show a person or a number of people acting differently than they look when it comes out to the end. When something good happens to them people think that they have changed but when it comes to the end the person or people show who they really are. In both stories the people acted differently than what they had and what people thought about them. In “Ezekiel Johnson” the theme is shown by him acting differently than what he had, but Super Bowl LI shows the theme by the New England Patriots acting differently than what the people predicted.
One of the NFL's best history of franchise quarterbacks belongs in Pittsburgh, where Bradshaw and Roethlisberger wrote the blueprint for a combined six Super Bowl wins in eight tries. Roethlisberger owns several Steelers passing records and might pass Bradshaw in the order soon enough. But for now, Bradshaw's four Super Bowls to Big Ben's two gives him the slight edge overall. The rest of the top four gets more complicated. Neil O'Donnell was 39-22 (.639) as a Steelers starter and guided the 1995 team to the Super Bowl, but will forever be remembered for his interceptions to Larry Brown in Super Bowl XXX. Kordell Stewart also had a winning record and was arguably the first “Mike Vick” with his incredible running abilities as a Quarterback,
In January of 2015, quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots was accused of deflating balls used in the January 2015 AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. It was reported that 11 of the 12 footballs provided by the Patriots were deflated. The balls weighed 2 lbs under the minimum weight of 12 psi. As a result, not only did the New England Patriots receive a hefty fee but so did quarterback Tom Brady.

After the super bowl 51 was announced to be at the NRG stadium some articles become available such as this which report how this event may affect the homelessness. Of course, the streets should be clean and presentable because Houston expected to receive visitor coming from different parts of the world. They said Houston must clean up the streets which include removing the homeless persons. However, this article said this was not the solution and affected the homelessness who expected to receive handouts during those days. They give some ideas of how people could help the homeless persons. This article from the news may be an example of homelessness in Houston. It shows credible information about homelessness, and it is true that sometimes
San Francisco is ranked eighth in the nation with the population of the amount of homeless population. Because of the this, it has been causing San Francisco problems with preparing for the Super Bowl Fifty. Why does one of the major cities in California have such a large homeless population?Well, the article entitled, San Francisco nudges homeless away from Super Bowl fan village, published by Bloomberg News, the article states,” It has worsened as a technology boom drawing thousands of well paid-workers has inflated housing costs…” Coming from this article, as technology is getting more efficient, the numbers of jobs are going to down and the rate of homeless people is going to go up. This supports why San Francisco has such a large homeless
Nathaniel Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer that was born in Massachusetts with a Puritan Heritage. “Born in Massachusetts on the Fourth of July, 1804, he was the descendant of Puritan worthies and the son of a ship’s captain who died at sea in 1808” (Gollin). Allegories are portrayed in his writings to depict a vivid outlook of his moral themes. Many of his works describe the human conscience and how it deals with guilt. Hawthorne’s works describe his contemplation on sin and guilt. He believed it had an effect on one’s social behavior, as well
With the NFL playoffs on the horizon, the Minnesota Vikings are flying high with the NFC North division title and one of the best records in the NFC. With everything is going right at quarterback, the team will have to make an important decision involving Case Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater come to the off-season. With all 3 quarterbacks set to be free agents, which of them will stay longer than this season?
Throughout history artists have explored their own emotions and unique experiences through self portrait painting. Since the renaissance artists have used the self portraits to create a visual diary of their life and their development over time. Rembrandt is one of the most renowned portrait painters from the baroque period and created over 100 self portraits charting a 40 year period of his life. Similarly post impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh used self portraiture to reveal his thoughts and perspective on the world in a unique style of painting.
This is my third year living in San Francisco, I’ve been traveling to different cities and the homelessness is a serious issue that I concerned about. Especially the homeless problem in San Francisco is serious than other cities that I visited. According to the Data Shows San Francisco Has Second Highest Homeless Population in United States by Kristen Sze published on ABC7news, there are 795 people per 100,000 residents in San Francisco are homeless, and ranks to second to New York in homelessness.
Imagine feeling invisible not knowing what to do or where to go. Imagine spending each night waiting in long lines to get a warm place to sleep for the night just to be turned down because all the beds are taken, or finding a place to set up a tent to have the police come and tell you that you must leave yet not giving you an alternative place to go. Homelessness is an extremely disturbing social issue that affects the lives of many Americans, and is becoming more and more noticeable in places like San Francisco and Oakland. Before Reagan took office and destroyed Americans safety net by slashing the budget on social services and before the tech boom that hit San Francisco, you could make a minimum wage and afford to live here.
Journalist Jack Healy explores the growing criminalization of homelessness in Denver Colorado in his article entitled, “Rights Battles Emerge in Cities Where Homelessness Can Be a Crime.” There is a growing debate over what to do in several cities about the growing number of cases of “urban camping”. The people really being targeted by Denver’s local laws banning “urban camping” are the hundreds of the city’s homeless people who rely on these encampments for safety from the elements as well as their nightly rest. Police issue misdemeanor citations and dismantle encampments. Homeless people and homeless activist have fought back against what they argue the “urban camping” prohibitions are targeting homeless people. In a 2015 statement addressing
The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty and the National Coalition for the Homeless labeled Los Angeles as the meanest city because of their tendency to not really care at all about the homeless. Since the 2000’s, Los Angeles has enacted laws to criminalize being homeless. With a 14-1 city council vote in June of this year, the LAPD gained the power to confiscate the belongings of the homeless. The LAPD also spends most of their time citing homeless people instead of pursuing real crime. These citations, which the homeless are not able to pay for, add up. If the penniless citizen is not able to pay the ticket, he goes to jail. Furthermore, LA affordable housing fund has been reduced to $26 million dollars from $110 million in less than a decade, which has led to less shelters at reduced price so the homeless can stay off the streets (Davis, The Intercept). A November study done by Bloomberg even fond that Los Angeles, “Spends less per capita on shelter and services than any other major municipality” (Nash, “City of Shanties”). Even the previously promised $100 million in emergency aid seems to be nothing but smoke and mirrors. The LA times, in a November 2015 follow up investigation on the emergency declaration, found that no actual money has been allocated to the rapid aid
The nature of politics has often been described with words such as “greed” and “dishonesty” making it a theme found in numerous literary works including George Orwell's Animal Farm and William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Animal Farm tells the story of Napoleon, a pig, his subsequent rise to power as the leader of Animal Farm and the corrupt techniques he undertakes to ensure this. Similarly, Macbeth is a play about a Scottish nobleman named Macbeth and the savage methods he uses to satisfy his obsession of becoming the King of Scotland. Animal Farm and Macbeth both demonstrate the corruptive desire found in politics and offer insight into this occurrence in relationship to real-life political leaders. Animal Farm and Macbeth are similar as the
