This letter is in response to the Residential Eviction Summons received at my house on May 17th, 2017. The landlord has stated that I, the tenant, have not paid the rent at the beginning of the month. This is false.
We never denied payment of rent at all. The landlord refused to accept it and – instead – served me a 3-day notice. The problem is his discrimination towards my religion as stated in Exhibit B. I am a priestess of the Lukumi religion, widely known as Santeria, and he knew this from the beginning. He never showed an issue with my shrines until he wrote it in the 3-day notice. In the notice, he states that my shrines bring pests and they are illegal in Miami Dade County. He then demands that I remove them immediately. It
“The home is the wellspring of personhood. It is where our identity takes root and blossoms, whereas children, we imagine, play, and question, and as adolescents, we retreat and try. As we grow older, we hope to settle into a place to raise a family or pursue work. When we try to understand ourselves, we often begin by considering the kind of home in which we were raised” (Desmond 2016, 293). Evictions! The root of poverty? Matthew Desmond’s novel “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in America City, portrays the lives of tenants, landlords, and house marketing on the poorest neighborhoods of Milwaukee. Desmond gives the reader overwhelming evidence and revealing testimony illustrating the major impact of inadequate housing on individuals, local, and national level. Desmond’s analysis and observation of his case study enables him to portray the reality of poverty, and to persuade the readers that evictions are a major consequence, and primary contributors in the relentless cycle of poverty. Desmond build his argument using two Aristotelian rhetorical appeals, ethos, logos and inductive reasoning to illustrates the importance of ending the cycle of poverty.
Since July, I have paid my rent with your company’s service. Coincidently, for the last four months, I received several failure pay rent notifications from Gate of Cipriano. I believe I received the first letter by accident, because the letter was addressed to my upstairs neighbor, but left outside my door. The last letter I received was a summons from the Prince Georges County (PG) for Failure to Pay Rent. The Sherriff left the summons as a result of a complaint from Gates of Cipriano for non-payment of August rent. My lease states that tenants pay ahead of the upcoming month. Therefore leading me to believe
Supplying civil legal services for eviction to the borough of the Bronx will show the city and the rest of the country that Civil Gideon works. The borough of the Bronx has the highest eviction rate in the entire NYC from 2006 to 2013. The Bronx is also well documented as a place ravaged by poverty. However, the Bronx has administered civil legal service for eviction with some degree of success. From 2005 to 2008, the South Bronx supplied legal assistance for housing court preventing evictions in close to 90% of cases. The cost to New York City is estimated around $450,000, but saved the city $700,000 in shelter cost.

The direct experience with areas and the belonging to a residential community have strong connectedness to the fear perception, that personal experience with this minority area may increase the perception of comfort when it comes to judging crime.

Australia's public housing is not adequately providing safe and secure housing for the disadvantaged and needy. This paper will demonstrate the issues that arise from the poorly planned public housing developments, particularly the issues concerning spatial concentration of commission homes in low socio-economic areas. Australian government agencies are currently exploring solutions to the problems caused by public housing estates, developed primarily following World War II to address the shortage of housing. These homes built around the period of 1940-1960 have created 'stressed' suburbs (National Archives of Australia, 2011). The physical problems of aged infrastructure and inadequately designed housing reflect only part of the issues
In evicting a tenant, a landlord has to prove in a court of competent jurisdiction that the tenant breached the contract. Examples of violations include nonpayment of rent, and damages to the premises (Beatty & Samuelson, 2010). Larry would have the onus to prove to court on the preponderance of the evidence that Roger breached the agreement. Upon Larry satisfying the court and the court granting him an eviction order, he must notify Roger. Without a court order, Larry would be going against the law by evicting Roger, and he would be liable to Roger for damages amounting to three months’ rent or actual damages (Sullivan, 2006, p.1297). Larry can try proving in court that Roger breached the rent agreement by damaging the drywall and electrical sockets.
During the midst of my senior year, my family and I became somewhat homeless. Over the summer, we all usually go on a vacation. My mom and my brothers travel to Georgia to spend time with some of her family while I travel to Maine to spend time with my dad and his family. While all of us were on these vacations, we had multiple people break into our house and even almost catch it on fire. Unfortunately, we live in an impoverished neighborhood so these people who were breaking into our house were those who were homeless themselves. When we came home to see what all had been done, we realized it was actually a lot worse than we had initially thought. Our refrigerator, hot water heater, and freezer were all completely removed from our house and
The first time i went out of the United States, was the first time I was the cause of our eviction. My mother and I lived in a homeless shelter with a curfew of 10:00pm. We couldn’t sign into the residence unless the other was already present. The rules were strict and upheld by security guards. There was always the threat of having your housing swiped away. I was given the rare opportunity to travel to Tohoku, Japan for two weeks to interact with survivors of the 2011 tsunami/earthquake disaster and how a country grounded in traditions recovered from a tragedy. When I received my acceptance e-mail, there was a rush of emotions. I was afraid of traveling thousands of miles away. Yet, I was excited to be traveling to land of anime and my favorite
From trying to find a place to get her mother-in-law’s hair permed to having to find emergency housing after a fight erupted between two seniors (sisters, no less) over dentures to spending Christmas in the emergency room instead of the living room, Gail’s firsthand experience shows how sticky it can get when you are in charge of your parents.
