The Me I Want to Be, authored by John Ortberg, and published in 2010 by Zondervan Press, is a powerful and practical guide to the secret to finding fulfillment in life and to grow in our relationship with Him and to cooperate with Him (2010). The book informs the readers a God’s perfect vision which starts with a powerful promise. All those who trust in God “will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8). God Made us, He knows why we were made and how we can be fulfilled. We made us to flourish, it’s God’s gift, we are moving toward God version because God redeems. The author says that, "There is an enormous difference between following rules and following Jesus, because I can follow rules without following the right heart." (p. 28). The book is divided into seven parts. The book focuses spiritual growth and it is a manual for building a Spirit-filled life in a world where perfection can only be found in God’s loving vision. Ortberg helps us gauge your spiritual health and measure the gap between where you are now and where God intends you to be. As the author emphasizes on …show more content…
The flow creates a deeper connection with God, with inexpressible joy, an honest recognition of your brokenness, less fear, more trust , a growing sense of being “rooted in love” and a deeper sense of purpose as God invites us to join Him since we are saved by grace, we should as well live by grace. "Jesus does not come to rearrange the outside of our life the way we want. He comes to rearrange the inside of our life the way God wants" (p.
The conclusion of the book mentions the importance of spiritual guidance, and the importance of prayer. Prayer is not only to be done is solitude, but
My book is called ¨Island¨ My author is Gordon Korman, it's about 6 kids who get into a shipwreck and are stranded on a island with only little supplies with them, at night they look for things to start a fire so they keep warm and can kinda cook food if they find any or hunt for some, they all have to help each other to survive on the island together so that means they have to hunt animals for food, get wood to start a fire so they can be warm, and even maybe build a little shelter.
Henri J. M. Nouwen’s book, Reaching Out: The Three Movements of the Spiritual Life, examines three aspects of spiritual movement in which he unveils how humanity relates to self, others, and God to achieve true spirituality. The first movement revealed is the movement from loneliness to solitude, second is the movement from hostility to hospitality, and finally, is the movement from illusion to prayer.
In this book, SL Stoutermire tackles the topic of her faith and the depression that she was silently enduring. She describes the process she went through dealing with the issues that contributed to her depression. This book describes the process that she went through to find her way back to God. It discusses the trials and tribulations that she endured. It describes the physical, emotional and social difficulties she experienced.
How does one find their spirituality? The overlaying theme between Michael Yaconelli’s, Messy Spirituality, the book the Wounded Healer and the guest speaker Roy Petitfils are all closely intertwined. How do we accept and grow to find accept and find our inner beauty and divine chosen path? Introspection and acceptance are critical to personal growth and enablement of happiness.
This is a spiritual infancy and is centered around self (Dyslin, 2008). It is here that often recovery becomes the idol in the individual’s life and once again they attempt to take their will back. Although an individual’s Higher Power in their personal spirituality may not be the Christian God, it still follows the commandant of placing no other Gods first. For the recovering individual this means to consistently on a daily basis hand their will and life over to the God of their
The authors seek to elucidate to the masses the concepts of God’s hope, amazing love and the power that emanates from god 's sake to his children. Through the entire work the writers seek to demonstrate through years of experience how people can be in possession of their thought patterns, enhance their decision-making skills to promote the physical and relational self. The book brings out very hefty discussions on life and the various engagements that people make every day of their lives. The book contains concepts like relationships and their dynamics where the authors assert that relationships ought to include God in them because he exists in them (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015 p.112).
What is spiritual formation? That is a question many evangelical Christian’s began to wonder as it became a popular topic of discussion within many Christian churches in the past twenty years. Dallas Willard in this article takes a look at that question throughout this excerpt from a book he wrote in 1999. Throughout this piece he takes an in depth look at what spiritual formation looks like in different contexts. He begins with what it might look like for the average person walking down the street, but then transitions to what it should look like in the life of a believer in Jesus. Willard is thorough in giving us what spiritual formation is and even why it is such an important part of the life of a Christian.
Wright (2000) explores two complementary approaches to learning, both of which are essential for the establishment of spiritual literacy. An effective spiritual education, he suggests it must be equally committed to education as nurture and education as critique. The book focuses on the process of spiritual nurture, defending the thesis that spiritual education ought to consciously and intentionally ground students in a specific spiritual tradition, as identified, articulated and owned by the school
In each of our own special ways, we all seek to live life to its fullest potential. Whether that be through selfish or righteous means, we try to live the reality that we think that we are destined for. One contemporary example of a person that lived a “full life” was a woman called Dorothy Day. She was a Catholic-convert who helped the marginalized all around America by following a life led by the sacraments. She was able to do this by realizing that her relationship with God permeated to other aspects of her life, seeing that each of us is called to be bread broken for the light of the world, and recognizing that the social structures of this world need to be changed.
I stumbled through the first thirty-eight years of life attempting to mask the hurts caused by myself and others. I was my own worst critic fueled by raging addictions and chaos; searching to find a perfection that could never be achieved. Life was a hurricane of madness and at the center of that storm was the Father waiting for me to give Him my whole heart. The purpose of this paper is to show through those who have been studied, the textbooks that have been read and my own opinions; the counseling methods and
God offered us the life to live, it is up to us to go on this journey as desire pushes us to see what the purpose in life is. John Eldredge’s book is very inspirational. As we go about our daily lives, we often go to God in prayer, watching and waiting patiently for God to open doors for us. This book helped me see that we have a desire burning in our soul, and part of this desire is to remind us that we must stay focused on Him. Moreover, we should be open and be real with our Creator. One quote I feel fits the book’s theme is, “Desire is powerful. One of the most powerful forces in our lives. At least, it was meant to be....How you handle your heart's desire will in great measure determine what comes of your life. So let us take the journey together. (pp. vii, ix). Our desire comes from the condition of our heart whether it be
“We all long to be in the flourishing section, but we stay in the safe section”(Mr. Mustard.) I want to be able to stand up for what is right no matter who it is for or when it is. “ For I know the plans I have for you, Declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future(Bible Gateway.) This is has helped through this year because it has helped me to know that I am the temple of God and I am the body of Christ. I know that my plans and God’s plans are different. I learned that through this year. I always wanted to make my own plans like I will study this or I want to do this. But it I have found out that it doesn't work that way. I know I have to believe in him and he will show me the way. “Also tht I am the body of Christ, when God looks down onto this earth, He will look down on us and see the image of Christ in us”(Pastor Matt.) That just blew my mind, I don’t know why, but it did. That is why I want to grow more in my faith and my action because we all are made in Christ image, and we should fulfill
Spiritual. Daily time spent in prayer along with a regular, unhurried time in the Bible is essential for growth. In the Bible, growth is linked to spiritual maturity and becoming more like Jesus (Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 3:18). Time in prayer, at the beginning and the end of day
The fifth question on practices that allow one to grow spiritually, Les answers “Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. These are the biblical examples of spiritual tools.” This is truly the model by which one can grow spiritually. In my experience, being in fellowship with fellow believers is the only way to be protected spiritually, grow spiritually, and connect with others spiritually. This small group model, or fellowshipping coupled with daily prayer and meditation of God’s word keeps us moving and stretching ourselves to develop a deeper understanding of God’s nature and this will allow us to become more secure in our
